Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
What the hell is wrong with UK.
Almost all the passengers who came from UK to India have Corona virus. A country with this much resources and money has been a big disaster in containing it and they are letting people go to other countries with out testing.
In Kerala itself 5 UK tourists have Corona.

My loathing for my own country has only increased with this pandemic.
Can only hope this whole thing forces a significant change in attitude here.

Over a 1000 deaths in Spain now.
This is going to get way worse before it gets better.

Spain's numbers are going the exact way of Italy. 170 deaths yesterday in Spain. In Italy it jumped from there to ~350 and now to almost 500 deaths per day.

Spain will be the new Italy if we had to simplify it but luckily better preparation exists due to the fact it has been aware comparatively to Italy who were hit without any notice or preparation.

I think you underestimate Lombardy, the level of medical care is very high in that region as is the life expectancy. They were steamrolled by the numbers.
Spain's current health care system is comparable to the one in south Italy. It is there but not entirely functional and certainly not able to cop with a real crisis of such a dimension.
Coming soon, up to 25000 fine for corona parties. Merkel sent the sign the shutdown will arrive soon.Sri wrote:
Bavaria is now locked down for 2 weeks, starting tonight. Here's what I jotted down from Söders talk:
* Gastronomies open for take-away, drive-in, and delivery.
* Bank and grocers will remain open.
* No visitor rights in hospitals, old age homes etc.. unless in case of death of relative. Only fathers can visit on child birth.
* Saloons, Bau/Gartenmarkt closed.
* All can go to work or to doctor, if needed.
* Public life being slowed down: people should only go out in exceptional cases, and NOT HAVE PARTIES.

This has nothing against the Medicare of Italy as they are far more advanced than many think in that respect, and same goes for Spain.
My point regards in the fact that Spain is better prepared from ahead and learning from the situation in Italy and of course the age median difference.
Spain, Italy, France etc all have very good medical care, technically despite an aloof system at times.

I hope that is the case but I don't think so. Spain was too late in applying quarantine measures, their timeline of actions is similar to the one in Italy. I hope that in hospitals Spain did take more precautions given what occured in Italy, but countrywide the government and the population didn't act too quickly.
Looking at the evolution of the casualties, it's indistinguishable for Italy and Spain.

I don't doubt the professionals or the level of the treatment in Spain. I would prefere Spain any day over UK for example. That's not the problem. The problem is the private/public system, the number of staff and the number of available beds. In that list of yours ( France, Italy, Spain) only Portugal is worse off.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Its been a very odd situation in Spain, Rincon.
All wondering why we have not been infected even humour approaching if we are immune and then it shot up all of a sudden.
If Italia did not have the medical technology and research they did it could have been far far worse. The lack of physical equipment is where it is lacking given the country never had to prepare for such a crisis.
And yes I agree it is a very similar situation and unfortunately the mess of political juxtapositions here will have likely a less cohesive conflict against Corona so definitely not the worst in Spain, yet.
@Babun. Perfectly stated Babun and last point is spot on.
Portugal unlike the mentioned three and indeed worse off, comparatively.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Epicentre of the Coronavirus in Spain is in Madrid.
That's the main reason of the number of deads
In Italy Lombardia is the most productive side of Italy, also high density etc and luckily atm infection hasn't exploded (many infections etc but I mean it's not Bergamo) at Milano, otherwise....
Anyway Just 2 weeks ago UEFA allowed to 3'000 Madrileni to go in Liverpool
Last 8th March it was organized a femminist parade of 120'000 persons on the Madrid streets
That's the main reason of the number of deads

Bavaria and Baden-Würtemberg are the most productive regions in Germany. People in NRW had to celebrate their carnival despite warning. Idiots..

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
The West has been incredibly arrogant with the response to coronavirus in general.
But it's not clear that science is held as gospel in political circles, especially when that science is indicating people need to act in direct opposition to the economy. I won't lie, these were tough decisions to make. But there was a certain amount of arrogance that got in the way of acting sooner, to me that is clear.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
So I can understand how weeks of lockdown in China could have resulted in an improved airspace (less pollution), but I'm not seeing how a lockdown in Italy, a mere 11 days ago, would result in the waterways all of a sudden becoming "crystal clear"?
What I mean to say is, isn't this just because when you have boats that go through the water, they kick up the mud and make the water "dirty" and "mucky"? lol. Anybody who has been to a lake in the morning before people start driving their boats around knows this.
And it talks about dolphins, boars, ducks etc.
The wildlife is there because there aren't any people out right now, so it's safe for them to be there.

I am hearing Germany has no lock down in place still? That's maddening they are hitting 5k cases is even after lowering the cases for 2 days.
France is keeping it stable at 1.5k cases a day. It's not letting it spoke yet.

The Venice canals are not standing water, as I understand, and are not natural rivers but lined with man-made surfaces. That's why the water has cleared up, (yet might not be very pure, still).

We have a soft lockdown as of today. Meaning people are allowed outside, they're just not allowed to gather in groups. You can still go out for a walk alone, or with members of your household, go shopping, to the pharmacy etc, but other than that...
Yeah we were too late, Babun (and me) called it days ago, people weren't taking it seriously enough.

We have a new outlier. 28 days in Bhutan for an American tourist to develop symptoms after first contact with another Corona positive person.

It means the 14 day home based or government based quarantine imposed in all countries might not be enough to stop the spread. If this was common knowledge, which i doubt, this probably gets it there.

Good to see you Bill. Stay safe dude. You and I are likely the oldest people here... this is absolutely crazy.
More worrying, our politicians are complete morons... except, sadly, for China and Russia.
Western politicians are completely inept other than the Germans.
