And I find it laughable that some of the Arsenal fans
a: think Wenger will replace him and spend the money received
b: complain about his bursts forward as if Diaby isn't a thousand times worse
Diaby can't tackle to save his life, is woeful positionally, holds the ball far too long and constantly does stupid crap
It's no coincidence that this season we spent £40m and sold Rvp and Song for guess what..... dun dun dun £40m
Sahin is the most we can expect and he's not even a DM anyway
A: Yeah we wont buy anymore this summer
B: Diaby is a bench player at most, not a starter
We already saw the effect of Song = clean sheet yesterday, no goal from fouls made by our great tackler in Song.
And you talk about Song as he's a DM, well he's not. If we get Sahin, he can do Song's hollywood passes so we wont miss them + isn't tactically and positionaly inept like Song was in the past two years.

Wow, Arsenal must have been horrible last season. If Song was their 2nd best player and he is as horrendous as you describe here then barca are f#!! I'm already regretting keita's departure

Re: Song to Barcelona
danyjr wrote:Barcelona's problem last season, in my opinion:
- Lack of aerial capability
- Lack of a solid centre back
- Lack of alternative 'finishers' to Messi
Rightly so they identified the addition of a LB and CB to deal with the problems that started with Puyol and Abidal's injury/health problems and the fact that Piqué had a below-standard season and was pretty much living off his name rather than quality.
- However, the addition of neither Song nor Alba will help the Catalans in the aerial department, if anything, they are now even more vulnerable to set-pieces and crosses.
- Song is a player who started as a centre back, moved to defensive midfield and finally became more of a central midfield. Here is an athletic player with good passing skills but poor defensive understanding and covering. Playing him as a centre back in big stages is suicidal. It must be said though, he won't be a bad replacement for the departed Keita.
- One could hope Villa and Pedro get back to their best and start finding the net, players like Alexis to step up and more importantly, Messi keeps the goals coming. Otherwise Barcelona will be in big trouble this season as I can only see them coming up against a better Madrid side which have gained confidence after a record-breaking season.
Song is 1.83 m. I say that he will improve our aerial capability more than enough...

Re: Song to Barcelona
Song isn't a DM any more, can we please stop mentioning him as a DM.
Thanks, Mole.
Thanks, Mole.
- Spoiler:
- Sahin would be a fantastic replacement for Song.

Re: Song to Barcelona
Yaya became essentially a rich mans version of Song after playing Dm and CB at Barca .
Perhaps Song can make the reverse transition.

Defensively is the only one that matter seeing as Barca almost never plays long balls, not even when we had Ibra we played long balls..

Re: Song to Barcelona
Alex Song is now officially the second Barcelona reinforcement of the summer, after a €19 million transfer deal was agreed with his previous club, Arsenal. The Cameroon midfielder has signed a five-year contract, which includes an €80 million buy-out clause.
In the end there won't be any add-ons in Song's transfer deal, as was the case with Jordi Alba. The player is scheduled to fly to Barcelona on Monday morning at 9:30 and will pose for the cameras in front of his new club. Then, at about 10:00, he will undergo the first medical check-up at the city's Barcelona Hospital, followed by a second to be carried out at Barça's sports centre, named after the club's founder, Joan Gamper.
The player will sign his new contract at approximately 17:00 hours on the same day, after which he will once again be on show outside the club's offices, this time accompanied by FC Barcelona's president, Sandro Rosell. At around 21:10, he will be presented to the rest of the squad in front of the fans just prior to the start of the Joan Gamper Trophy, which will be played against Sampdoria. On Tuesday, at midday, he will give his first official press conference as a Barcelona player.
Although essentially a defensive midfielder, Alex Song set up 14 goals last season at Arsenal and will be the ideal 'joker' in Tito Vilanova's pack.

Re: Song to Barcelona
So Song will be sitting on the bench for most of the season hoping and for injures so he can get some playing time?
Anyways I dont have a hard feeling and wish him all the best, and thank you for your great season last year and the crazy hair.

no he doesn't... he probably didn't think we are getting any players.... but guess what we signed Santi, Giroud, Podolski and now we are getting Sahin....
and no one thinks Diaby is a DM, if we bring in Sahin we might not need DM if both Arteta and Sahin play DLP...

Re: Song to Barcelona
thats exactly what he said.
sahin is the most you guys can expect, and i think hes right on tbh. and 2 deep lying playmakers--- thats the exact same problem hes having at madrid, if mou doesnt think it will work i doubt wenger is any different. arteta would be dropped in favor of sahin.
and correct, no one thinks diaby is a DM but next to arteta and santi like he played yesterday hes going to have more defensive responsibilities which song was able to provide (even though i wouldnt consider song a DM either)
