Chelsea ready to fight to hold onto Valencia loan star Oriol Romeu:
Romeu joined Los Che on a season-long loan in the summer and Valencia have already seen enough that they would like to make the move permanent, but Jose Mourinho apparently sees Romeu as playing an important role in the Chelsea midfield next season and is not ready to countenance a move away

"I know that they are following me and they are happy with my recent performances. They have congratulated me but I have not spoken directly to Mourinho."
"Chelsea scouters told me recently that there are not many players in my position and that if I have a good season they will want me back next year."

Re: Oriol Romeu
I doubt that, he'll have to dramatically improve for us to take him back. Mikel and Ramires are not old and if we sign a CM in Jan we'll also have MVG + the new CM, through Chalobah or RLC into the mix and he has no place.

I hope he does tbh.
With Matic, and Mikel, he has no place in the first team and RLC and Chalobah are more promising.

Re: Oriol Romeu
He did claim back in December that he was told he was in José's plans for this season.
We all brushed it off but I guess he may have been right all along.

But how, unless we are actually going to sell Mikel.
He has always had great potential, not as good as Matic but better than Mikel.

Re: Oriol Romeu
Depends, defensively yes but if Matic was out for an extended period.
Mr I take 5 extra touches and release the ball 15 seconds after I should have done Mikel will hurt us badly.

Re: Oriol Romeu
Unlike you, I have utter faith in the Oscar-Fabregas Pivot
- Spoiler:
- I can understand where you are coming from, Give Romeu an extended period of games and he will boss, in a once off game, Mikel will probably do better.

I also do not like this argument. If City were without Yaya for an extended period, they'd have to rely on Garcia. If Madrid were without Xabi, they'd have to rely on Illaramendi, If Liverpool were without Gerrard they'd have to use Lucas, If Arsenal were without Ramsey, they'd have to use Flamini.
The list goes on, all teams rely on a few players, for us, it's Terry, Matic and Hazard.
Barca it's Messi, Neymar and Iniesta. Real, It's Ronaldo and Bale. So on and so forth.

Re: Oriol Romeu
You have missed the point but let's see:
Well you just have to look at the skillsets of the 2 different players.
Or even 3 if we compare to Matic.
Who can build and pass out of the back: Matic /Romeu
Who can pass it first time: Matic / Romeu
Who likes to pass it side ways all the time: Mikel
Who is slow on the ball: Mikel
Who is good at defending shielding back 4: All
What do Chelsea have trouble doing? It isn't defending it's breaking down teams.
Mikel and even Rambo are the worst at doing that, they don't have the passing technique to play fast passing.

Re: Oriol Romeu
For a team we need to break down, I don't see whats wrong with playing Cesc alongside Mikel, allowing Cesc to do the passing, Just tell Mikel to get the ball to Cesc ASAP.
My biggest concern would be the hard games, Matic excels in those games, games where I'd rather have Mikel (the more defensively solid and more experienced of the two) over Romeu.
