Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
I think the whole point is that the hospital has been continually promised things only for those promises to never materialize. On top of that, the woman in question is concerned about the increase in patients.
Putting this out could spur agencies to act (on the bureaucratic level) and also get more individuals at the local level to be taking things more seriously.
Look, I have a problem with some of the "doom and gloom"ers that have been a prominent voice in this outbreak once people actually opened their eyes to it. With that being said, the woman in the video is not screaming "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE, LOOK AT THE HORROR". She's pretty calm and speaking factually about what the situation is.
It's putting information out there. That's what the media is supposed to do. This is better than a lot of things put out there because it doesn't really even offer commentary about what to do. It just states what is happening. Although they could have done without the scary music in the background. That's what I can agree with.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Let me clarify one or two things related to my last post: There is some commentary, but relative to the amount of information in the video which is the individual just talking about what her working conditions are like, it's not the main focus of the video.
Two: I'm actually quite cautiously optimistic about the outbreak right now compared to where I was a week or two ago and even compared to some of the people I see around me. Particularly when you see the kind of reporting that is coming from the UK right now (Neil Ferguson). I agree that there are a lot of articles or commentaries in the media right now that are accomplishing little beyond getting people riled up.
I just don't think a nurse's account of what her daily life in a NY hospital is on the level of those articles or commentaries. It provides a lot more information that is useful to an individual to see, and that's where its' value lies.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Honestly it would be a miracle if we pull off this 21 day lockdown with limited number of deaths from the virus. No one ever imagined that a total shutdown in India is even plausible especially when millions and millions of people migrate to cities and work on a daily wage basis. Ofcourse a relief scheme has been announced for daily wage workers and the underprivileged for the next few months to combat this difficult situation but question remains if this is going to be enough..
Only two outcomes is possible in India's case. Either we manage to do the unthinkable and successfully contain the outbreak to a reasonable level with limited casualties. We are going to absolutely suffer financially ofcourse but just the sheer thought of containing a deadly virus with the unity and cooperation of a billion strong people(despite their financial setbacks) gives me hope and optimism for the future.
Either this or it would end being the biggest disaster in India's history post independence that could set us back for years. People are going to try to break the quarantine, there's going to be riots. More people are going to end up dying of hunger and poverty than the virus itself.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Germany is taking in a lot more young Italians in need for respiratory assistance into our ICUs, same with the federal State Baden-Würtemberg and Elsass in France. In both regions, the capacity isn't there anymore to treat anyone in the ICU units, they are full. Additionally, a team of docs, virologists and nurses will be sent to Lombardy region by the University Clinic of Thüringen.
Hopefully, both of our neighbours can flatten the curve come next 2-3 weeks because we might need their help by then.

Australia got it before pretty much everyone else after China and it hasn't been the unmitigated disaster that Italy, Spain, Seattle or NYC are.Nishankly wrote:BarrileteCosmico wrote:warm weather slows down the spread, south korea had intense testing efforts, japan took precaution very seriouslyUnique wrote:how is it the countries that border china are not hit that hard.
First part is unverified and probably untrue. Its just that these countries including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore have better governments than the west.
Look at Thailand, Australia and Malaysia, heat isn't stopping anything. The rest of countries in Asia still have winter with 20 deg C in most countries.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
We have a far bigger capacity now and the capability to carry out 6,000 or 7,000 tests every day,” said Takuma Kato, deputy director of the ministry’s Infectious Disease Control Division.
“We believe that we need to prioritise the testing of people who need it. We are not testing people who just say they want to be tested; we are checking people who have been seen by a doctor who then recommends that they undergo the test.”
words fail me ... it is as if S. Korea previously stated that Japan cases are low because we are not doing mass testing to general population ... Germany says the same thing. I hear that in fact Japan is only using 1/6 of their testing capability to this day and only to needy ones.
That means I dont see the point of holding quarantine for 2-3 weeks and resuming life as normal because we are not testing everyone and segmenting infected vs non infected.
Embassy of Deutschland has now put the free visitor visa to Japan for German citizens on hold. They have also asked to exercise precaution and will be facing mandatory quarantine upon returning from Japan
sigh... unbelieveable - expect the cases to rise significantly
really sorry guys.... it it as Art Morte previously brought up...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
so i have the followings,
- no fever, just some runny nose and mucus (though its highly unsual for me to get this at spring)
- 3 weeks ago i had a bit of a tight feeling on my left side of chest but it went away by now, no coughs whatsoever,
- no headaches, fatigue, my senses are ok (not feeling as if i have no sensory feelings for food or smell)
- though feeling quite a lot as if I have a sharp feeling as if someone is poking me all over my body... for 3 weeks
is there is any cause for concern or if anyone has got anything like this above?

Only an antibody test can tell for sure, be careful.
A warning was issued to all the German citizens living in Japan through a letter by our embassy their safety is in danger and the danger cannot be measured due to the Japanese gouverments' intransparency.JespSwe wrote:We have a far bigger capacity now and the capability to carry out 6,000 or 7,000 tests every day,” said Takuma Kato, deputy director of the ministry’s Infectious Disease Control Division.

sounds about right - friend of mine just let me know that they have been warned of this
likelyhood is that many germans will leave Japan now - we have singlehandedly lost trust of our german friends...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
Not very surprising that Boris has got it, politicians are meeting people and going places all the time. His girlfriend is pregnant, that must make it a bit extra anxious for them.
I'm assuming a lot of British MPs will get tested now? I wonder what happens if most government ministers have to either isolate or even get the virus? Who's going to be in charge if that happens?
