He's a doctor (? Or at least a healthcare worker) atm, it could very well be that he's very busy. My brother does not have it but I haven't heard from him for a while, mostly due to how busy he has been.

Yeah, he’s a nurse. Must be terribly hectic these days.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
, UK PM Boris Johnson has just announced a major ramping up of coronavirus measures.
Here are the major points of his speech:
From tonight, people in Britain will be allowed to leave their homes for only “very limited purposes” - shopping for basic necessities; for one form of exercise a day; for any medical need; and to travel to and from work when “absolutely necessary”
People are warned not to meet friends or family members who they do not live with
Shopping is only permitted for essentials like food and medicine, and people are advised to do it “as little as you can”
Police have powers to enforce the rules, including through fines and dispersing gatherings
All shops selling non-essential goods, such as clothing and electronic stores, are ordered to close
Libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and places of worship are to close
All gatherings of more than two people in public - excluding people you live with - are banned
All social events, including weddings and baptisms are banned
Funerals are not included in the new restrictions
Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed
Restrictions “under constant review” and will be checked again in three weeks. They will be relaxed “if the evidence shows we are able to”

Because their lock down has only lasted two weeks so far. People infected at the start or before will develop symptoms during that two week period and add to the case count if it's serious.
But what we'll see in the coming days (with any luck) is the cases beginning to level off, as fewer amount of people will have been infected recently due to the social distancing.

Measures weren't taken after the day - 1. It's been a while
As in every country in the world. (process was always same : negation, comparison with flu, various nuances of " restart ! it won't change our habits! , polemics about tampons, finding the reality, gradual measures, hard measures )
And that was a mistake because it's a virus incredibly easy to infect
Still there is not a complete block for example. Still some workes have to move for job. Production isn't blocked completely because you can image the risk to block everything ... but we 've came the last step. We must just resist now , it'll leave rubbles, so many activities 'll be forced to close .. but we'll figure it out later.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
I went shopping yesterday
indeed I went out for post office but I've found out , just after my arrival, it's opened every other day (and just on morning) due to coronavirus .
So I took the opportunity for grocery
row of people outside supermarket, you had to take a number to facilitate the respect of your turn, just 2 ppl at time could enter in. Of course everyone with mask ( included me ... I surrendered to the evidence.. I miss those old times when you watched ppl with masks just in Thailandia due to smog)
A day we 'll tell this to our sons and perhaps they won't believe it. I hope it, it means it's been just a parenthesis

Trump going to open up the country within days. Said "cost of economic loss and its implications will become larger than the cost of coronavirus." Can't say i disagree with him. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

going for the herd immunity. i dont agree with that policy from any government but it think that will be the thing that beats this virus in the end.sportsczy wrote:Trump going to open up the country within days. I never get sick generally and I had a legit chesty cough and a high fever for several days, so I'm thinking I did? otherwise it's a big coincidence, I self isolated for like a week. Feel fine now.

Give people the choice... you can quarantine if you'd like or go on as if everything is fine. Just as long as everyone understands the risks and consequences.
The US is projected to lay off 25 million people this quarter if the economy stays shut... no stimulus package in the world Can solve this. Millions of people are going to become destitute... and i bet you the mortality rate there is going to be higher than 1-2%.
This is unsustainable. They have to open things up and hope that people take precautions to protect themselves the best they can.

Hapless_Hans wrote:Guys, what's the situation in India and Bangladesh?
30 something cases in Bangladesh, a few hundreds in the whole of India, is that in any way reflective of reality?
Is the corona virus really not a thing at all in a country with a population of a billion and a famous lack of.. err.. social distancing?
We had nearly no cases until March 14th until the shutdown in Europe as well in India happened and people started returning. The first case of corona virus in India was reported on 30 January 2020. It took 45 days from the first case to 100 cases. Now almost every five days, cases of corona infection in India are doubling. We didn't have any connections with China so the virus barely touched us until it broke out in Europe and Middle East.
For now its an elite class disease in the country and we've apparently done well to contain it with quarantine. But we already have human to human cases because of some dumb people who broke laws and partied after landing in the country. We do still have the same problem as the rest of the world, the testing kits are severely limited.
Yes social distancing is quite poor in India when it comes to the middle and lower financial class. Once the virus breaks out on the streets, you can expect a huge number of cases everyday and we aren't as draconian or efficient as China even though we have a good amount of doctors, experience and fight while dealing with these breakouts.
Another problem is that we have the lowest amount of ICU beds in comparison to population wrt the world but I don't see the virus will reaching the villages or rural areas. It should stick to cities which is better as more hospitals, more doctors and better lifestyles.
But its only a matter a time before it breaks out and the toll would be high considering the amount of old people and how we are very similar to Italy with 3 generations of families usually together.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 2
I don't know what the USA are doing but either way the situation isn't going to end up well: if they keep up the shutdown they risk 30% unemployment, if they let it go way more people will die than the measly 0.5%. At the same time, a huge part of the US population is armed to the teeth by now. The whole situation reminds me of the second part of the contagion movie.

So glad that the rest of the world is coming together to help Italy even if it is in the smallest way possible, we cannot leave our fellow brothers to fend for themselves. They suffered the brunt facing it earlier, it could have been anyone.

Even airports of developed countries don't have Corona prevention protocol like Dhaka Airport. State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Corona isn't a serious disease, it's like a flue. Minister for Foreign Affairs.
We have managed to keep Corona infection under control. Minister for Information.
Like China, we will build hospitals to combat Corona. Minister for Planning.
Bangladesh is more successful in combating Corona than USA and Italy. Minister for Health.
Note: All these quotes are before the first infection was detected.

That's the spirit. Less hit countries should help the more affected ones, it's in their own interest. Your numbers are finally decreasing. I hope the trend stays stable.

Don't worry. Indonesia and Turkey were quoting god that saved them from the virus. Turkey now has 1500 cases in 4 days and Indonesia has about 60 deaths.
