I mean he hasn't made a bad signing yet, you guys need to calm down tbh
Also Fellaini sounds like more Emery than Mislantat or however you spell it lol.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We haven't signed any 18-23 year old wonderkids yet who are going to be world class in two to three years time. #SvenOut
In all seriousness, there's a need for quality but also a need for experience in the defence. Ideally, we'd get a centre back who was aged 24-28 who's already playing at a high level (Koulibaly, for example) but these types of defenders are rare outside of the top clubs and that makes them expensive af. Look at what Liverpool had to pay just to get Van Dijk as an example of how much a centre back like this costs now. If we only need this one signing then maybe we could do it, but we need at least four new players.
So you either go young or go old. We already have young defenders in Chambers, Holding and Mavropanos, and our oldest defender is injured until November at least. It makes sense to bring experience in. Doubly so when you consider that defenders don't turn shit in their 30s, and actually seem to get better - or at least more consistent - when they get to that age. People say Sokratis' best years are behind him but I'd argue he's got a good three or four years left to give.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Looks like Adli is pretty much a done deal:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jun/06/arsenal-unai-emery-sign-psg-yacine-adli-teenager?CMP=share_btn_tw
There're also reports about a bid being rejected for Gelson Martins:
http://sportwitness.co.uk/player-left-unhappy-arsenal-offer-knocked-back-wants-transfer-sorting/
Martins' situation is interesting as a lot of Sporting players are trying to void their contracts following an attack from their own fans. Apparently Martins wants to leave the proper way and won't pursue that option just yet.
If it came to that, it'd be some coup getting this guy for free.

Very good, hopefully that isn‘t our only signing in midfield though.
I‘d be happy with Adli and a DM TANK.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Why are you all obsessed with a DM TANK when your decline coincided with Cazorla's injury
Replacing him finally would be the most important thing IMO.
Just so you know any responses involving the words " Ramsey" will result in a strong.....

I’ve been advocating for a CM like Seri for a long time but it looks like the club wants to continue with Ramsey so I’ve kinda given up. My only hope is this kid being a freak like Cesc was at a young age.
We need both though imo, tank plus a technical CM.
Coquelin still hasn’t been replaced and neither has been Cazorla

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
This is precisely why I want N'Zonzi.
- He sits in midfield, has great awareness + positioning to intercept
- His tackles are clean. Sampaoli called him the "octopus" of his team because as the lone DM he cleaned up everything
- He's super composed in possession and makes good decisions
- He doesn't lose the ball. Dispossessed only 13 times last season
- Deceptively good at penetrating lines with his passes
- Can carry the ball forward if he has to
He's basically a vastly superior Coquelin with a bit of Cazorla thrown in for good measure. The only thing against him is his age, but then he'll probably transition into more a deep-lying playmaker than a defensive midfielder.
Pair him with a good b2b player and we'd have a very well-rounded and athletic midfield pivot.
And tbh, Cazorla was unique for us. A completely two-footed midfielder with discipline and intelligence, the vision of a great number ten and amazing close control to evade pressure. Can't think of many like that who aren't already at a top club.

Not sure why we haven’t wrapped up Leno yet, it won’t be long before Liverpool realize they can’t sign Allison and go for Leno instead.
Unless we aren’t after a GK at all... but then Kike Marin thinks Leno is our no 1 target.

Bernd Leno.

This was requested and I thought I'd put it up here as it's unusual to see a GK underperform their post shot xG for 6.5 seasons. Bigger under-performance though over the last 1.5 seasons. pic.twitter.com/SysbKwjdey

What does "Underperform post shot xG" mean for us peasants?
How many good, affordable GK's are even out there besides Leno? We've been linked with Lafont but he's 19 ffs

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Lol,it means based on quality of chances he has faced he has conceded more goals than he should and has been a trend for 6 years
the other article i posted also says Arsenal should give him a miss
even with eye test ,he is error prone and quite unreliable at least from times i have seen him

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
PostShotxG = the total xG for shots on target against the keeper.
So last season he faced 64 shots, of which 20.6 should have resulted in a goal. However, the actual number of goals Leno conceded was 23.
In other words, the data suggests he conceded three more goals than he should have.
The implication of that is that he's either making mistakes quite regularly to concede those extra goals or he doesn't have the quality to save big chances on a regular basis. Someone like De Gea for example would probably have a lower goals conceded relative to the xG against him, I'd imagine, which is the sign of a top goalkeeper.
However, the data is only as useful as the context it was gathered in. It's just as possible that Leno had a couple of very bad games, therefore distorting the numbers, or was simply unlucky enough to come up against excellent shots that keepers just can't save.
It's also not impossible for him to improve after moving clubs and working with different coaches. Szczesny once had similar accusations against him but the moment he left us and got proper coaching at Roma he improved considerably.
Moral there is: don't write off players just because their numbers are a little underwhelming (and don't overhype players because their numbers are excellent). Stats + eye test always the best combination.

Also, worth pointing out that the most efficient keepers last year were De Gea, Nick Pope, Jack Butland, Fabianski, Hennessey and Ben Foster... aka the busiest keepers in the league because their teams concede a lot of shots. The least efficient was Ederson. Let that sink in for a minute.
