defensive midfielder has actually lost its value to new football fans. a defensive midfieder naturally should pick up loose balls, distribute to theb2b midfielder or anyone closer to restart player. having a ball playing defender in that position is like having a sweeper(90's tactics). this means u wud be more vulnerable to regular attacking. a dm should be a naturally gifted intelligent player with the ability to intercept play and restart play at the same time

Do we have any players bar arteta who fits the description then? Do you not think a dm is needed for the stability of the team? What happens when arteta is injured?

depending on the length of arteta's injury, a partnership of ramsey and wilshere can come in2 play. then move carzola in acm position and retain giroud and walcott positions. its all about the mental capabilities of the other players and i believe wilshere is better suited at that position for a short term period...these are my thoughts

http://www.gunnerstown.com/arsenal/2013/7/27/luis-suarez
gunnerstown wrote:There is NO release clause as such; however, there is a clause that states: “If Liverpool receives a bid in excess of £40,000,000.00, then they have to notify the player of such a bid.” The bid of the extra £1 ensured that the £40M was exceeded so that Luis Suarez was personally informed. Clever move Arsenal.

Secondly, there is also a clause that states: (and I am para phrasing here…this is NOT verbatim) “If the club making the bid are in the Champions League and Liverpool are not, then the player has the right to leave to join the purchasing club if a bid in excess of £40,000,000.00 is made.” Again, the extra £1 ensures that this clause is met as it exceeds the £40M figure.
Here is the problem. There has been talk of Arbitration if an agreement cannot be reached, as there is varying interpretation of the clause(s) and what they mean. Working in the legal profession I can tell you, depending which side you are upon, there is always a way to interpret a contract and its terminology. That is how lawyers make their money… Just saying!

Now to the curve ball – Liverpool have the audacity to suggest that Arsenal are NOT in the Champions League (because they are only in the qualification stage) – WOW, and there the problem seems to lie!

While writing this blog in the early hours of this morning, I called upon the assistance of an ally in the form of @PoznanInMyPants who confirmed to me that the two qualification legs for the Champions League take place firstly on 20th August 2014, and then a week later on, 27th August 2013. Thanks Paul! - So, with this current transfer window closing on 2nd September 2013, there is still ample time to do the deal should Arsenal not be able to conclude or resolve the problem immediately!

is that the case?

The press haven't provided the best clarity on this matter but I trust them over one guy who claims to be in the legal profession and knows about the relevant parts in Suarez's contract.

I'm not going to comment too much on something that clearly nobody has a clue about, but actions will speak louder than words. If Suarez's party doesn't challenge Liverpool's interpretation we'd be able to say that there wasn't sufficient grounds for them to do so and that Arsenal, rather stupidly, acted on inaccurate information.

"Pere Guardiola, Luis Suarez agent, wants to live in London. Luis, too ... He wants to go to Arsenal."

This isn't anything new, though. If Suarez didn't want to join us he would've dismissed us by now.

The fact is that what we're currently offering is still short of what Liverpool want.

The only reports that really matter are the (mostly) reliable sources, and Chris Bascombe qualifies as that in the current crop of reports (though even then he's been wrong in the past, so don't take it as gospel).

Bascombe wrote: Suárez has made no representation to the Premier League to seek adjudication on whether Arsenal’s provocative bid of one pound over £40 million obliged Liverpool to sell.

Arsenal believed their offer, submitted last week, would trigger an exit clause in the Uruguayan’s contract, a suggestion the Anfield board rejected instantly.

Liverpool are unmoved by any suggestion there is any ambiguity and are adamant if the Premier League was to adjudicate on any dispute the club’s position would be validated further.

The lack of any approach does not suggest confidence on the part of the striker’s advisers. Club lawyers and those of Fenway Sports Group are definite about the details of Suárez’s contract and believe the 26-year-old’s agent, Pere Guardiola, is well aware Arsenal’s £40 million bid was far too low.

“We’ve all examined the clause in detail,” a senior Liverpool figure said. “All it obliges is for us to enter good faith negotiations about Luis’s future. There is absolutely no obligation to sell and that is very clear.”

Liverpool themselves could request the Premier League to ask Arsenal on what basis they bid £40,000,001. It is contrary to League regulations for a rival club to be given access to confidential contract details of an opposing player. There are no Liverpool plans at this stage to pursue a complaint against the Londoners, although at the highest level of the Merseyside club there is a feeling bidding an additional pound was "rubbing Liverpool’s noses in it".

It [the £40m + 1 bid] has ensured no further approaches by Arsenal are welcome at Anfield.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have agreed a loan deal for Benfica left back Lorenzo Melgarejo but will require a work permit if they are to proceed with signing of the Paraguay international.

Also, if Suarez desperately wanted a move to London he could attempt to force a deal by handing in a transfer request or making public his desire to move their, as he has already done with Madrid. The fact that he's keeping quiet means that he's not so desperate for a move as some reporters would love to be the case. He will have to submit an official, written transfer request before LFC will consider a deal in any case, even if the club's valuation is met.

I am coming to peace with the fact that we will not have any squad additions to be excited about. And we will finish third this season.

Bernard would have still gone to Porto, if even we had a offer accepted, he wants to move in Jan and wanst first team football to keep his position for WC , and he probably won't be a starter for the first few months

If we don't signing any meaningful players, I think we'll genuinely struggle for 4th this time rounds. Put the whole 'squad integration' aside for a moment - because evidently a few of us feel that certain individuals will improves from 2012/13, which is usually an inevitability - I really do believe that not signing anyone will have a negative mental impact on our guys.

With Gazidis coming out with the 'money in the bank comment, as well as being closely linked with at least 5 players I don't, for one moment, see this going down well with the likes of Artera, Wilshere etc ( the influential guys). I don't want to say too much as there's still a whole month to go; things aren't looking good though.

Some of our players have been quite vocal about the need for the new signings and, indeed, the last thing we want is for us to have another season struggling to get fourth place and then for players to start agitating for a transfer away because we didn't make the necessary signings to get us competing again. It's this sort of cycle that we need to break and what better way to do that then to actually sign those players this summer?

Then there's the pressure Wenger will be under if he doesn't make any significant signings and fails to get the team performing this season. The board has made it very clear that we have the money to spend and that it is Wenger's to spend, so he'll not be able to turn to his old excuse of not being able to compete financially with the others.

We'll have to continue to wait and see what happens, but it's damn frustrating watching the days go by while whatever master plan we have fails to come to fruition.

BR now says Suarez is happy with Liverpool's stance which is believable as he has made no attempt to move to Arsenal till now.

this transfer will be done once the bale transfer gets sorted imo. its all up to madrid, if madrid get bale then it is likely arsenal will be suarez's only option. by that time we will see if he puts in a transfer request or not.

I am getting sick of Suarez rumors, and it looks like Liverpool dont want to sell. Wenger either pay what Liverpool want or move on to look for someone else. The money is there and we still can sign few quality players.

I dont want to wait and end up with panic buys.

Soldado would be a good option but I think he will soon sign with the Spuds. I just cant see Chelsea selling their best player.

Arsenal in talks for German defensive duo

Arsenal are in for Matthias Ginter from Freiburg Along with Serdar Tasci from Stuttgart

http://www.gunnerstown.com/arsenal/2013/7/31/gt-exclusive-arsenal-in-talks-for-german-defensive-duo

I can confirm we are really in for Ginter. Not sure about Tasci but Ginter should be the priority with Tasci coming in as well.

He(tasci) was supposed to be highly rated 2 years ago. Definitely better than Djorou and Squillaci. If he can revive his form, then will push with Mertesacker for the starting spot.
