Rewatched mad max and mad max 2: the road warrior.
Can't believe what an absolute visionary George Miller was back in 1982. Incredible film. No idea how he pulled it all off with 0 cgi

it was fine, it's certainly not the big feminist statement a large portion of the media/audience made it out to be though

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I am going to watch Oppenheimer tomorrow morning lol before I head to work, there is a theatre close by.
Memento is imo the best Nolan movie then Prestige. Two movies i can watch again and again.
I think Inception is very good movie but doesn’t resonate with me as many of his other movies.

Haven't seen a movie in ages, guess it's time for Oppenheimer.
What is it with this Barbie movie and why is it in the same basket as Oppenheimer? I've even seen people say Barbenheimer.
Why would anyone even watch that.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
It was a meme to mix the 2 biggest blockbusters of this summer that came out on the same day, people did not know which one to watch first. If anything it boosted the ticket sales. Even our prime minister Trudeau took a stance, he is of course team Barbie
Last time i went to the cinema was before Covid pandemic lol but i will watch Oppenheimer this week or the next.

Hard to believe people didn't know what to watch first, since you'd expect these two movies to attract two completely different audiences.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Idk man i can safely say i will never watch Barbie
Why some dudes in their late 20s/early 30s would want to see it, i guess out of curiosity because of the meme or just to assess how much of a girly feminist film it actually is. Or maybe you have a 5 year old daughter which imply some self-sacrifice...
Tbh i got some odd film habits myself i like to re-watch my favorite animation classics. I saw Mulan the one with real actors and thought it was bs, the original one is much better. Lion King "real" version was amazing though

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Oppenheimer great film, i rate A
Visuals are beautiful, sound effects are appropriate, sometimes subtle sometimes very loud. Usually not a big fan of going too often back and forth in times but this time i was not bothered by it, in retrospect it was essential for making a real film out of this story which is otherwise more suited for a documentary.
The acting was amazing. The cast itself is prestigious and the performances go accordingly. Shout out to Josh Hartnett and Matthew Modine it had been a while since i've seen them. But really every actor did a great job.

Saw Barbie, was good. Don't see why a guy wouldn't enjoy it, its simply a good film, everything else is just internet noise about people fighting on twitter.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
it's fine, pretty conventional, nothing grand or new, nothing spectacular aside from the genius insane marketing and some "feminist" thinkpieces that aren't warranted at all... if anything the film says "men are eternal crybabies fighting for power, and the best women can do is to use their body as object to manipulate men as best they can to get some of that power back".

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
There is nothing feminist about barbie. It's just over elaborate preaching nonsense.
Poor film making. Absolutely mid plot which went nowhere. Childish jokes. Editing was all over the place. Cgi fest.
My wife hated it more than I did

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Very late as usual... since FINALLY the Oppenheimer downloads are out
Been blocking out all I can as usual b4 watching it finally which has been near impossible but I still managed somehow
As a movie fan who likes all kinds but love especially Sci-Fi n some excitement or at least intrigue or some twist excitement etc... despite not hyping or over anticipate it (which is also near impossible with Nolan films), I was pretty disappointed with it. Obviously hes already done some imo really perfect stuff with Sci-Fi in the past already so he has to go to something else going forward prolly...
Read up some stuff on the net also since n some love it n some are like me dont really like it due to a few reasons... as usual we all appreciate n think Nolan is masterful technically as usual, but for me the same as Dunkirk, this movie is about something in history so surprise n twist factor is prolly not possible
Therefore, that hinders his usual ability to bring that... so many stars n good acting, n there were parts when I really feel the usual amazement when watching his films, but overall Oppenheimer just didnt provide enough of those I think. Unlike Tenet which most ppl had to rewatch n find explanations too, I understand most of this one on the first watch, but same as Dunkirk there just werent enough as I mentioned already for me to love it like his other movies. So its great movie but prolly not a
'masterpiece' or 'perfect' like many of the others. But thats only normal I guess, thats life
One thing that bothered me though n wondering what u guys think of is the sex scenes lol... Ive since read the reasons behind them n why them being so weird, n one is that Nolan has never done them b4
But still cant help but feel they were not necessary or just not done well... I hope he cuts them out going forward cos for some strange reason I feel it almost downgrades my opinion of Nolan in general, as in I thought he doesnt need those in his films (coming from a guy who I think most would agree would prefer to have them than not lol) is that weird?

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
yea it's weird, the film was phenomenal
The Killer is a solid 4 out of 5
Lots of films still coming out this year that i'm looking forward to
can't watch Killers of the Flower Moon yet coz the only two cinemas in Windhoek have been under reconstruction for 2 to 3 months now

Just saw The Killer... didnt really understand it until I read up online n realized it was a comedy in disguise
Appreciate it much more as a result... but still, too different from what I expect from Fincher so a little disappointed...
Looked great as usual though n Fassbender n Tilda Swinton are always great.

Thats what some online said it is
Its supposed to be funny n making fun of the character n todays world in general? Satire might be the right word?

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
i can see how it can be read that way... but it's more of a good old Fincher-styled crime thriller genre thriller, with a good narrative arc for the protagonist, as his humanity deep within him gets the best of him and his cold goal-driven life

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
He contradicts himself throughout though n fails a lot? Starting right from the start actually
If it was just straight story of a killer going for revenge, then it was nothing special at all like my initial reaction was... only after I read up again I appreciate it more...dunno maybe its a mix of both.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
that's the point... he tries to reassure himself that he is still a ruthless killer, but deep inside him his disciplined and skilled ways are slowly coming apart because he years for a softer, easier life...
- Spoiler:
- he missed the shot in the beginning intentionally for the reasons i stated above, that's what Tilda Swinton's character basically also tells him in that dinner scene with that bear metaphor
