Hereditary i rate it B+

Lots of suspense and great acting. The end was a bit comical but for horror movies that's as good as it gets. Not really into graphic and gore stuff.

Surprised it did so well at the box office considering no big names n not big budget, always good to see well made films being popular but not due to big names or advertising? Not sure though...

Watched first season of Daryl Dixon... quite good, if u dont mind it all being filmed in France n spoken in French a lot

I love this movie.... dont remember recommending it here so probably wasnt me, but I really loved it and I didnt even seek it out, just came up randomly when I was flicking through the channels

Its the best feeling when you stumble upon such a great movie accidentally by being bored and just playing with the remote

I’ve been watching Yellowstone lately. A colleague of mine said it was «pretty good», so my expectations weren’t super high going into it, but I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this show.

Not sure where to put this but Im wondering about is when I came across them pop ups about the often big huge age gaps in the celebrities couples. Ive also wondered in the past about this is what happens when they age n basically one of them inevitably likely dies much earlier than the other, that could mean lonely life remaining for decades left?

An extreme example age difference Im seeing is an actor I like Aaron Taylor-Johnson I just realised is married to the female director who directed him in his breakout movie back when he was like 18 or something n she was 40 or so And on average male dies earlier than female, maybe that would mean the difference in age of death wouldnt be that big, but for most the guys who marry the much young wives as we all know, the wives prolly live decades after death of the husband

Anyway, just wondering what ppl think about this? I know the typical answer is the young wive can enjoy the wealth left n do whatever she wants afterwards But apart from this... kinda hard to wrap my head around it lol...

money and convenience, daddy/mommy issues... those are the biggest factors... there's also a lot of accepted perversion in Hollywood, so i think that answers some of it as well...

They also probably dont think long term. I imagine most celebrities are quite detached from reality

Finally saw The Boy and The Heron, the latest award winning Miyazaki movie.... had to look up explainers afterwards as usual for his latter movies... n understand, but it just isnt my taste, too weird I dunno but he has a global audience but often makes movies too personal for most to understand... thank god for the internet else most ppl wont understand his movies I think

I guess im too simple minded, I still just love his earliest works the classic simple stories... the likes of Spirit Away n this one... too much symbolism n deep lol...

Technically amazing though, great music as always.

Nebraska... liked it a lot, slow, more about older lives, both sad n comedy at the same time... good music, acting, sceneries etc... prolly wont be suited for those wanting the standard entertainment though.

Hmm Nebraska has caught my interest huge fan of Alexander Payne in the insanely underrated About Schmidt he directed.

Definitely going to pick this up.

Election and The Holdovers are my favourite films of Alexander Payne

Anatomy of a Fall... well dont wanna spoil it, just wanna say the actress I thought was amazing in her performance? Who else watched this n agree or not?

Didnt watch Poor Things but Emma Stone must have been amazing too to beat this

she was better than Emma Stone for me, and this is coming from a huge Stone fan

I saw the infamous Irréversible the other day, starring Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel. Originally I decided to watch it because after rewatching parts of Twin Peaks: The Return I was interested in finally seeing the David Lynch muse Bellucci in starring action, so far I had only heard of her as a sex symbol and seen her in the very small (yet enigmatic) role she was given in Twin Peaks: The Return and in a throwaway role in Spectre. Irréversible stood out as her most (in)famous film, and the most intriguing to me. It also caught my eye that her lover in the film was her real life lover, Vincent Cassel, which I enjoyed in Black Swan. Too bad he seems to be an asshole irl.

The movie contains pretty graphic depictions and themes of murder, rape, and sexual and spiritual rawness and depravity, and thus its reputation. I thought it was a pretty good slice of pretentious European arthouse cinema. I think the director, Gaspar Noe, comes off as having a depravedly good  taste for aesthetics and avant-garde flourishes. He also comes off as a bit of a BDSM pervert. The story takes place and is filmed in France in the early 2000s, that along with technology with which the movie was filmed gives the movie an artsy sheen that I very much like. The film is told chronologically backwards and by the end of the film you can really feel how inspired of a decision that was. There's also a very good, creative, quirky use of lighting, camera work and transitions, and all these avant-garde flourishes, as I call them, are especially good because they have thematic, narrative, conceptual, emotional, and visceral weight and purposes. There's a profound sense of obscenity and depravity, and being over the top and gratuitous is also part of the film's and the director's schtick. The guy has a bit of a BDSM fascination and the film can be labeled as a sexploitation film in some ways.

Ah, but there's the thing. You can feel there's a logic, philosophy, meaning, and art behind what Gaspar Noe confronts us with in the film, so what may appear as over the top and gratuitous is part of a sort of twisted artistic integrity, I think. But part of that is an actually palpable pervertedness from the director too that kinda pushes me away. But again, that's part of his artistic thing.

A pretty good film, I appreciate it, and I was amused by the tasteful avant moves, the sexiness, the ugliness, the gut wrenching, and the depravity. If you give it a shot, it can get you thinking and feeling quite a bit, and that's often a mark of a good piece of art.

A 3/4 using the Roger Ebert rating system (reductive as any), and as I come to find out that's also what he gave it.

The Bikeriders... pretty boring for me... got into it got of the actors n director... think u gotta be a motorbikes fan to like it... or prolly more for the old timers... or if u like watching Tom Hardy acting macho

I've learned that many of these prestige films just don't interest me. I respect all of the artists and their craft, but I just can't get into any of these films.

I'm very much a popcorn-flick guy. Movies like Arrival are probably the deepest and most cerebral ones that interest me. Otherwise, I pretty much gravitate to the standard, mainstream stuff.

It is what it is, I guess.

My birthday is coming up soon and as I've done each year, I simply watch LOTR Extended edition, eat lots of junk food, and just get lost in Middle Earth for 12 hours. That's my happy place.

LOTR trilogy is indeed a classic to be re-watched yearly

I'm always amazed at how consistent it is, unlike Harry Potter another goat saga which only the first 2 films really catch the vibe of the books imo. If i remember correctly the actor who played Dumbledore died AND the studios which hosted the Hogwarts scenery was burned down due to arson before they could film the Prisoner of Azkaban. I was always disappointed by the films after that.
