CBarca wrote:Can we please keep out the pseudoscience
Both statements about how you need to develop a strong immune system and how being fearful of it is a problem are fabrication
Actually, sports has a point. Just not on the burger king.
Cytokine storm is not pseudo science, its a real thing and it's absolutely correct to say that this could be the reason covid19 patients die (it happened with the spanish flu).
Omega 6's actually amplify the immune response. You don't want excess inflammation
It's omega 3's that control it. They are anti inflammatory in nature and control/regulate proliferation of the immune system through antagonistic properties.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1833105
Inflammation versus anti inflammatory.
Except this case, it would be done in a healthy way. So less burger king, more fish

sportsczy wrote:This may sound harsh... but if people are going to be insanely dumb and get themselves killed, let them. Better for humanity that they're not part of the gene pool.
If their actions stopped at themselves then I would agree. But because of asymptomatic transmission and the danger of overloading hospitals this could have very real consequences for the rest of us.
It's like driving really fast, if the person were only endangering themselves then why not? but it's likely to end up in a crash with someone else so we have speed limits
In any case, there's a happy medium between "ordered to stay home" and "packed bars" that can and should be followed in the reopening phase.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
So, some actual science:
This study found T-cells reacting to SARS-CoV-2 in people who weren't even exposed, suggesting there's some cross-reactivity happening. To quote:
https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(20)30610-3
And Oxford's ChAdOx vaccine prevented pneumonia developing in monkey's and is moving onto human trials. Crucially, there was no immune-enhanced disease, which I believe is what happened with the first SARS vaccine. Quoting the abstract:

Oxford has agreements with manufacturers in America and India to get this thing out ASAP if it's safe to use on humans.

Importantly, we detected SARS-CoV-2−reactive CD4+ T cells in ∼40-60% of unexposed individuals, suggesting cross-reactive T cell recognition between circulating ‘common cold’ coronaviruses and SARS-CoV-2.

A single vaccination with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 induced a humoral and cellular immune response in rhesus macaques. We observed a significantly reduced viral load in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and respiratory tract tissue of vaccinated animals challenged with SARS-CoV-2 compared with control animals, and no pneumonia was observed in vaccinated rhesus macaques. Importantly, no evidence of immune-enhanced disease following viral challenge in vaccinated animals was observed. ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 is currently under investigation in a phase I clinical trial. Safety, immunogenicity and efficacy against symptomatic PCR-positive COVID-19 disease will now be assessed in randomised controlled human clinical trials.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
Prediction about Dane county being stripped of their safer at home status was incorrect and counties all over the state are saying fuck you to the supreme court, as WI continues to progress slowly towards reopening in a safe way instead of following supreme courts "all at once, fuck your safe, organized, and data based methods".
So be very careful. T-2 weeks from now conservatives are going to charge in here saying "WI reopened two weeks ago and nothing is happening" without paying any respect to the fact that many counties are either fully reimplementing safer at home or some version of it.
It sucks it has to be this way. Because we could have a much more nuanced understanding of what the risks of a slow reopening look like if we looked at states like Georgia and analyzed % of businesses open, mobility increase/decrease (%) vs before lockdown, polls on consumer confidence and behavior, polls on business confidence, behavior, trends noticed, etc
Instead every single article or discussion about a state that "reopens" is either "just wait they're gonna get fucked" or "no explosion in cases haha virus is fake news". Need to go back to where I was two weeks ago when I mostly stopped paying attention.

Thank you, BC. The forum can breathe again.
And that's some great news posted by Jay. According to the study, the researchers found that even when the monkeys were exposed to high levels of coronavirus, none of them developed viral pneumonia. They also did not see any signs where the vaccine made the animals more vulnerable.
The vaccine is also undergoing human trial currently and the results are expected to be available next month.

Can someone please paraphrase what Kaz said?
And can anyone provide a general consensus on anything positive regarding this virus?
Rather burntout from. news of this pandemic and its draining my businesses to the bone.

Slovenia have declared themselves virus-free while New Zealand are also close to eradicating the virus in their country.
In China and Taiwan, there has been no community spread for over 30 days. New cases are so-called backflow cases - people coming into the country from abroad, basically.
South Korea continue to do very well despite a recent scare.
In observing South Korea, Taiwan and now China, we can see that a proper strategy of thorough testing, tracing and isolation can control the virus, and remove the need for lockdowns. The rest of the world is trying to do the same thing. We can all get to that point with time.
That's about it, really. The loosening of lockdowns in Europe could be a good thing but we'll have to watch case numbers carefully. There's still no effective treatment for the disease and the vaccine, although promising, is still months away. It looks like there'll be some semblance of regular life continuing again in the summer but it'll be fragile.

Just some baseless, low-IQ BS wrapped around in a blanket of hate, ignorance and racism. Nothing he ever says is worth-mentioning or commenting on. Be glad you didn't pollute your eyes with it.Arquitecto wrote:Can someone please paraphrase what Kaz said?
The link posted by Jay is pretty good news. Although we still have to wait another month or so to see how effective the vaccine is on humans, the scientists working on it led by Sarah Gilbert seem quite confident.
And can anyone provide a general consensus on anything positive regarding this virus?

And I completely get why some of you have stopped following the news. I have too. It can make you depressed and even anxious if you suffer from anxiety.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
Thank you Demon, very kind of you.
For me it is more ennui given a topic even if centrifugal to the circumstance of the world can get rather tiresome especially if it is causing just pure inconvenience, to which that in the case of me.
This virus really has overstayed its welcome of sorts and even more troubling to me on a subjective level that no one will pay reparations for it and we know what nation that is.
Will read Jay's news by tonight.

He was way worse than Unique IMO but could dress his racial rants in much prettier words.
I don't remember him being this way under his previous Betty La Fea nickname. People really do change.

Myesyats wrote:some good news at last. Elections have been postponed for now (at least until august i think) and former EU council president Donald Tusk might run replacing one candidate through mutual agreement.   TVN24 is the only proper news channel.....Polsat and TVP are basically State TV.
The ruling party wants to hold presidential elections in May by providing the ballot papers by mail which requires the voter to mail the ballot back.
Maybe we will have our own Donald!!!
Sadly no Donald. Mayor of Warsaw is the new candidate. I remain hopeful because he is a good choice aswell and very pro-EU

i like Betty, glad it's just temporary
and it's called "bacterial manipulation testing" not actual science Jay.
im not getting vaccinated btw
we could have begun to fight off this whole thing already, herd immunity, some people just unfortunately don't know yet the true power that resides within themselves

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
Im mostly skimming through here and more a response to CB's remark on not advocating that. Given my ignorance to this virus I am more reading than giving my opinion.
I do feel one must do all they can to fight against it from their health improvement to Wim-Hof breathing (another supposedly proven immune booster). Though from what I gather they would only make a marginal resistance against it.
Too many variables, lets be honest.
It seems this is something we will have to live with for quite a while, I fear.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
I'd watch this first given it gives good exposition in how to breath and the mindset behind it.
My reverence for him comes from meeting him and less what Ive heard from others. Genuinely a special individual.
The lesson coming from it is also stems from how incorrectly we breath.
Have had great sporting results from it.
For others I heard it helps anxiety, depression or brain fog. Give it a go.

Thanks to anti-vaxers this virus will stick around for much longer. It's your responsibility as a human being, not a matter of choice or feelings.
