Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I've seen Requiem a few times actually. I love the cuts, editing and overall direction of the movieHarmonica wrote:So what's the least rewatchable great movies? It's probably going to be some heavy stuff, from top of my head like City of God or Requiem for a Dream. Great movies, but I've only seen them once, and would never watch them again.
Like i said i barely rewatch movies in any case, but supposedly great movies I'll never watch again are crime/noir films i found bland and boring like The Untouchables and Miller's Crossing.
Maybe there's more just can't think of anything else atm

I don’t think I’ll ever watch Lawrence of Arabia again in one sitting. That motherfucker is like four hours and pretty conventional. Rewatching scenes though, since it’s one of the 10 most beautiful films ever.
Also Apocalypse Now Redux

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Oh, I watch all four of those movies regularly, seen all of them at least five times. Lawrence of Arabia is one of the best movies ever made, with unbelievable acting, superb score and epic scenery. Untouchables also has one of the best Morricone scores there is and the story is great. Miller's Grossing is Coen's movie, which don't usually disappoint. Perhaps the least I like watching is Apocalypse Now Redux from those.
I don't think boring movie can be a great movie. I don't know single one. If it's boring for me, it's automatically not a great movie for me.
I like film noir though, Humphrey Bogart is one of my favorite actors.

GL, what's your most rewatched film of all time?
Dark Knight.
Same here lol
My count is 19 times
After that it's probably Spider-Man 2, 28 days later or Kick-Ass

My opinion on Apocalyse now has changed a lot since i first watched it. I posted it here maybe 3-4 years ago that i am conflicted on what i think of it. I said it's a technical masterpiece but not the most enjoyable watch.
But i watched it again and i think it's one of the greatest films ever made. When you think of it as a journey or a life story the film becomes so much more enjoyable. It's one of those where i am sure film geeks wrote essays on.

The Redux is 203 minutes compared to the original being like 150.
Those additional 50 minutes are a journey alright.

I certainly agree to some extent. Intolerance isn't a movie that's great to me, but my teacher at Uni called it one the greatest films ever made and it's pretty much academic consensus to be a great work.
That said. It's terrible in every way. Boring. Overly long. And it's message is not deep at all.
Doesn't help it was basically an apology from the director because he made a racist as fuck film that birthed the KKK as we know it.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Lmao what is with me having at least watch some of the films you guys mentioned twice.
I loooove The Road have probably seen it four times. Same for Requiem as i said. And i probably watched Trainspotting twice i think.
I don't consider them hard watches at all. More fascinating than anything else tbh.
Christiane F. now there's a movie that's a hard watch and i don't think will ever watch again.

Couldn't watch 30 mins of Requiem. Can't remember if i wasn't into it or it was just boring beyond belief.
Don't think i've ever liked an Aronofsky film i have tried.

I think The Wrestler is by far his most approachable movie of the ones I've seen. Also a great kinda-sports movie.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Well I've studied movies, at some point I had library of 4000+ movies. About five years ago though I stopped caring, and sold all my physical media, and hard drives. I associate my sudden disinterest in movies to the comic movie scene, and recycling of stories with different skins. iMovies are now made with superb efficiency, least effort for most buck. Tarantino is one the last true movie makers still around who haven't sold out. Lately though I've found my interest towards movies again.RealGunner wrote:Who would have thought Harmonica is a man of culture

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Speaking of that the earliest movie I've watched is the Birth of the Nation from 1915. Mostly because I think it was the first feature that was available for DVD. Definitely a movie from different times.Freeza wrote:Harmonica wrote:

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
The reason older movies seem better is because our knowledge of older movies have already been curated for us to only show the good ones.
Current movies we live with each terrible film after another.
___
I was also thinking about how people complain about all movies being alike and I thought that was weird considering how many westerns there were in the older days.
The 1940's were the most popular decade for Westerns where out a total of 13,089 movies 1,082 were westerns. That 8.3% of all movies.
According to Letterboxd there were 175,556 movies released in the 2010s. Only 466 were westerns. That's 0.25%. So people aren't kidding when they say that genre died.
If you take the superhero genre (Sci-fi) it's 4,820 films out of a possible 175,556. That's 2.75%.
Overall I think you just have to look harder. There's greater movies than there has ever been because there are so many and everyone can make one. But it also makes it harder for us living through it to find the great ones right away. When we're looking back at this period in 20 years it will be loaded with incredible movies and not seem like it's lacking at all.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Western was and is my top movie genre. Even though there's almost 500 of them made in 2010's, most of them are B-movies and worse. I can think top off my head four good westerns from 2010's, definitely the worst decade since they started making them.Freeza wrote:The reason older movies seem better is because our knowledge of older movies have already been curated for us to only show the good ones.

Django Unchained
True Grit (remake)
Hateful Eight
The Revenant
And Bone Tomahawk is another pretty good one.

You'd probably enjoy Sweet Country.
Western is probably my least liked genre I'd say.
I can see why you'd be down on modern films if that's your favourite genre. There's just not a lot of expensive, mainstream westerns.
Really liked Godless and The Beguiled though, even though the latter is barely a Western.

I'm bookmarking some of these movies mentioned in this thread to watch them, because I hardly care anything big they are pushing nowadays.Freeza wrote:You'd probably enjoy Sweet Country.

I was just thinking what westerns I rewatch the most, beyond Leone's the most rewatched westerns I think are Shane, Dances with Wolves and Last of the Mohicans. I would recommend those for everyone.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Speaking of worst movie genre, comedy is probably my least favorite nowadays. Top 5 comedies from top off my head.
1. My Cousin Vinny
2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
3. Dumb and Dumber
4. Snatch
5. Home Alone
Also worth of mention, The Pentagon Wars as the best comedy for video.
