It was a passion project for him. His father wrote the script and then passed away.

Riz Ahmed, let's get it!
His performance is arguably the best part of the movie, this movie is extraordinary with so many strengths.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Yes, I have watched many actors over the years improve and grow to become some of the best in their field. But there's something else that only legendary actors have and that's the "it" factor. It's really difficult to put into words so I'll just call it "a gift from god". It's either you have it or you don't and you can't get it even if you practice for a thousand years.
Denzel, for instance, is a freaking beast. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but this man is a monster.
I was watching Flight and saw this scene:
Watch his face. Watch his facial expressions. Watch all the little details from the barely visible but perfectly placed droplets of sweat to his twitching lips as they all coalesce into one perfect image that brilliantly mirror his state of mind - that of a suffering alcoholic torn by guilt and desperation.
Two oscars may seem a lot for any actor, but not this guy. He certainly deserves a couple more. What a brilliant actor!

It's a beautiful scene that I invariably end up making fun of/imitating every time I get blackout drunk

Denzel is straight up one of the best actors of all time. If we're speaking of black actors the best out all time. Yes he does not break out of his mould in which you can tell it is Denzel Washington playing a role but that is not his purpose nor the directors involved in picking him for the role they accustom him too, he nails it each time.
Last film I watched of him was Fences in which tells me how far he has evolved from his famous Training Day performance and how much more subtle he is now.

Denzel was phenomenal in Fences, as was Viola Davis as well. That whole cast was fantastic.
I have to say, my favorite movie with him still has to be Glory though. The ending still gets me all misty-eyed.

Uncut Gems, average suspense, was hard to understand what was actually going on initially and who the characters were. Apparently 7th highest movie ever for having the most f bombs.
Good Time from the same director was a lot better imo.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Watched Tenet in 4K with subs. Sound was not an issue fo me with subs. Can imagine how people in theaters felt though. Visually it was a spectacle. Story wise quite average I would say. Pacing was all over the place with them jumping from exoic location to exotic location almost in random. Biggest sin of the movie is you don't really care about any of the characters and the connections they make with each other on screen. Action and set pieces were incredible. Good movie but not Nolan's best. Also Nolan really needs to improve his dialogue...some of the lines were just...
Sound Of Metal might be my favorite movie of the year so far. So incredibly powerful and emotional. The acting and sound editing in stellar. The ending would break anyone's heart.
Have Another Round, Palm Springs and Nomadland on my list to watch from 2020. Have a feeling I will love Palm Springs. Sounds very my type.

Don’t know if I like the title Another Round
Considering it’s basically called “Binge drinking” in Danish.
That title would’ve been fun too, but dumb as hell

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
yea it's a B-movie title for a "movie of the year" type of film
don't know if i posted about Sound of Metal here... i liked it, and Riz Ahmed was great. But i felt like the overall richness of the storytelling and plot consistencies were short changed in order to make it more of a tearjerker movie - and that doesn't do it for movie especially if the movie is getting movie of the year hype
another film getting that hype is Minari starring The Walking Dead and Burning's Steven Yeun
Palm Springs has a fun concept, but it's just that, more of a breezy, easy fun movie that overplays its gimmick by the end

Movies are dead. Never seen industry taking such a hit from something. One could hope that Disney would suffer the most, the way they've made us suffer their ruinage of movies.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I think the point is more the hypocrisy of sexual abuse of males and how they’re never believed. I’m clearly in the “believe victims” camp, but it isn’t always the case for men too. We’re often reduced to sex fiends who’d do anything to get it, which is often not the case.
If anything this movie suggests that should believe victims. And that abuse breeds abuse and it’s an endless spiral if you don’t believe them and get them the required help.
Why are running through Danish films though
Id like to hear your thoughts on “Retfærdighedens Ryttere” from This last year. One of my faves, but I feel the comedy is very Danish and I’m interested to hear if it translates at all.
And Mads Mikkelsen is in this one too. Two biggest Danish movies in a decade basically, and they happened two months apart in the middle of pandemic. It’s crazy.

Speaking of Danish movies, watched Den skyldige 'The Guilty' recently, not sure how it's 7.5 on IMDB, would say 6.7 at best imo. Decent suspense initially, but started to lose interest as it went on after realising it was just about the main character taking a call from one location.

I could've told you that lol. That's the whole thing that people loved about it here.
Good concept when you haven't got much money to make films.
The American remake is coming out this year with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role

that's exactly what i meant
in rape/sexual abuse accusations, doesn't matter which way the accusation is coming from, men are always believed less because they are exactly as you said perceived as "sex fiends"
i'll put Rider of Justice on the watchlist

sounds like Halle Berry's The Call and Tom Hardy's Locke
such a concept shouldnt be overdone otherwise it gets boring

One Night in Miami - 8/10
It was a good watch. Strong performances from all 4 leads, particularly from Kingsley Ben-Adir and Leslie Odom Jr. So much commentary from this is as relevant today as it was then. What I liked most about this movie is that it captures how much things have changed and how much things have not changed at all. It will be in the awards hunt for sure.
Outside the Wire - 6/10
Very similar to Chappie, which I rate a bit higher, but a fun action movie in general with a cautious message about the future of military warfare. Anthony Mackie might want to steer clear of these types of movies for a while though or he might end up getting typecasts as cyborgs. I enjoyed his performance overall though. Damson Idris was good, but far better in Snowfall than this.
