Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Think it's the only Bollywood film I've actually seen.
Long as shit though but I somehow survived it at 10 years old

Slumdog Millionaire was pretty meh for me, but I'm not certain if I've seen Hotel Mumbai, might have a look.

Also Nishankly why isn't there a Bluray version of Lagaan? Seems rather weird for such an important movie.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Well Hotel Mumbai is quite different and you will need an empty stomach to watch it but I'd recommend that since it's Hollywood and based in India on real events with Indian actors and background setting.
Slumdog and Lagaan (especially Lagaan) are way too different from this. Take this movie in isolation if you ever watch it.

The Demon of Carthage wrote:The Departed. Re-watched the living crap out of that one.
Another one is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Lost count how many times I watched it as a kid.
Interesting. Think that's the worst harry potter film by far imo

I had no idea this movie made it out of India mate . But I don't watch movies a lot both Bollywood or Hollywood so I am horrible with any questions you have. Maybe Surag, Lucy or Adit can answer these better.
Hotel Mumbai, I'd recommend since it deals with a developing country against terrorism.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
It's like the most famous Indian film, at least where I'm from. Was shown often on television.
The only other "Indian" movies we got were Bend it Like Beckham and The Guru

Personally liked Bend it like Beckham, even though it was played out in England, the social paradigms both within Indian communities and within Britain were very relevant, we needed that movie.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Yeah for Westerners Lagaan is the most important Bollywood movie, and often makes in the best ever movie lists. But what I remember, the DVD-version wasn't that great, not only because it wasn't designed for a four hour movie, but because the scanning wasn't that good either. It really needs another 4K scanning and restoration.

Fucking great movie. Was the whole reason for me loving Keira Knightley.
Begins at around 0:44
This line is fucking hilarious though

Regardless, India even though has freedom of speech, we are quite far off from it since every single thing invokes a long term defamation court case or censorship. The better films are released in Cannes before / even if they make it back to India. So I am not surprised that you haven't seen many decent Indian movies or even any good ones but hell surprised you saw Lagaan.

I am 100% sure this line didn't make it in the Indian release, no way we'd let this go

GL, what's your most rewatched film of all time?
So that this doesn't get lost in the posts.
Currently, its Interstellar for me.
Usually, I never mind re-watching Saving Private Ryan or Inglourious Basterds.
I have an extremely niche choice.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Godfather and LOTR i've seen 100 times and it's a minimum, really. The books they were based on are also amongst my very favorites.
About Harry Potter only the first 2 films are good imo. Settings and design changed after that and i never recovered, thought it became shit, less enchanted, more dark and "realistic" and they start to cut many parts. Especially Cup of Fire was disappointing, it's my favorite book of the saga.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Hobbit seems crap, it's mostly animations. In LOTR every elf, uruk-haï, orc is a real actor under a costume.
Besides, making 3 films off the Hobbit, bitch please. The book is like 150 pages, the easiest to read of Tolkien universe (the hardest imo was Silmarillion but it could make a damn good movie)
For these reasons i never made the effort of watching.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Ong Bak i also watch it several times, certainly 30
Basically if i like a film i'll re-watch. Matrix, Layer Cake, Snatch etc i could appreciate even more.
Sometimes it's not worth it. Clockers by Spike Lee was excellent at first, but the second time it was quite boring. There are many examples.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
So what's the least rewatchable great movies? It's probably going to be some heavy stuff, from top of my head like City of God or Requiem for a Dream. Great movies, but I've only seen them once, and would never watch them again.
