Re: USA gun violence thread
yes mate it is absolutely true. if people get hooked on hard drugs and don't have money to pay for them it is 100% fact they will commit crime to fund them. that is not a debate. that is a fact.FennecFox7 wrote:That's absolutely not true though. And decriminalizing it is always going to be the better option

According to Unique, instituting gun control laws are pointless because people will still find a way to get guns.
Might as well throw out all the Drug laws and trafficking laws because people still finds way to do it.

Re: USA gun violence thread
Unique perhaps means that people who plan to carry out premeditated murders with guns will find a way to get one. Which is somewhat true, I guess. But America's problem is gun violence that happens unplanned or almost casually, just because so many people have guns and carry them around, and making guns illegal would definitely curb that violence.

Re: USA gun violence thread
my point is you can't end gun crime by just making it illegal. If just making things illegal fixed the problem then the world wouldn't have a problem with drugs would it. And the only people that would respect new gun laws are the people you didn't have to worry about owning guns in the first place.izzy wrote:VivaStPauli wrote:Well, yeah, because it's illegal.

The main part of this text I've already said in this thread and it's the real problem, if that was solved, maybe, like, 90% of the problem was solved. That is the fact that American cops work under conditions where the threat of firefight is very real. Because of the gun culture over there, you're always expecting the worst in situations that are even one bit unclear.
The prison sentences thing I don't think affects much at all.
A good point is that why do American cops so often patrol on their own? A cost and personnel thing? I'd certainly think that the conditions they have to work in, they should always patrol in pairs.
Btw, there's another cop shooting in the news, of police in Chicago shooting an unarmed black teenager in the back. Sounds bad like that? Well, he had stolen a car, was fleeing both in the car and on foot, ignoring orders. The cop first shot at the car, missing the suspect, and he still didn't stop but fled on foot. There's a video in the article. To be honest, I don't blame the cop. Another idiot asking to be shot.

Nah I go to Wisconsin. Surprisingly don't know anyone going to Ohio State but my sympathy goes to them.
Doesn't make me feel as safe at a different large big 10 public university -.- we already had one person shot in the chest this year, but that was more of a personal scuffle, not part of a mass shooting.

Why do they attack universities? Because they are "gun-free zones", probably.
I'm hearing this was a vehicular and knife attack.

Yeah early reports were wrong
Would you look at that, assailant uses a knife instead of a gun and we have nine injured and one critical instead of 10+ dead.

the attack in nice with a lorry left 87 dead and 434 injured. there are far more trucks on the streets than guns. so lets ban all the guns knifes and trucks in the world.CBarca wrote:Yeah early reports were wrong

Alright
Edit: When you exhale when it's cold outside, the water vapor in your breath condenses into lots of tiny droplets of liquid water and ice (solid water) that you can see in the air as a cloud, similar to fog.
I thought I'd leave this here, since it's relevance is similar to your comment

I think it's just that they're densely populated places so they simply have more targets, also more likely to get into the news if you're going after kids at college than grandmas at costco.DuringTheWar wrote:Why do they attack universities? Because they are "gun-free zones", probably.

I would also argue it's easier to radicalize a college aged student than some 65 year old who's heading towards retirement and has grandkids.

I say *bleep* the constitution and *bleep* the forefathers, people criticize holy texts for being written thousands of years ago, the same thing should be applied to a piece of paper written hundreds of years ago. 2nd amendmend one of the worst things to plague the US atm, sure it had historical significance, but this isn't 1700 boston tea party raids, this is 2017 ffs

Re: USA gun violence thread
Agreed however the major problem now is getting the guns off of everybody
The types of people who won't hide their guns and willingly give them up are the types of people who are least likely to use them
Always dreamed of moving to Murica as a kid, still a possibility but unless they at least tone down the gun nonsense it's not my first choice any more.
Happily take my chances in all sorts of fighting situations, but ain't no amount of training going to help you when some *bleep* idiot pulls a gun out 60 ft away and starts spraying out of nowhere.

I'm so thankful to never have experienced any shooting or anything like that. I couldn't live a place where it seems like most people have guns and are willing to use them. I don't see the appeal.

I'm sure you would love to live in Switzerland. Culture and mentality is the bigger problem than ownership of guns itself IMO.

An elementary school
Imagine going to school in fear. Who knows which random psycho might pull out a gun and start a mass shooting.
Over here, the only fear we had of going to school was whether we will get detention for not doing HW.
I am glad we don't have prehistoric garbage laws like the USA's 2nd amendment.

Of course culture is a bigger problem. No one has ever said anything else. But an organisation like NRA shouldn't be able to exist like that.
I have a whole lot of problems with American society in general. The Republican party is the main problem.
Poor people voting against their own self-interest. Anti-intellectualism. Fear-mongering. Gerrymandering (goes for Democrats too). I think that the US is f'ed up beyond repair really. And most, if not all, is the reason of their politicians.
War of drugs. War in general. No free education and healthcare for the less fortunate. Over the top capitalism. The impossibility of breaking your social heritage. I would probably never leave Denmark tbf. I feel safe. But there's still much to be done here.
Was at a weapon store last week. And the people owning it were openly selling knives to gang members who bragged about robberies, while they were laughinh together. Wasn't a comfortable experience.
