Re: The Movie House - Part 3
"Jason Momoa is in talks to join Batman vs Superman in an unspecified role."
Please don't tell me they are going to bring out ANOTHER super hero in it. Unless he is Lex Luthor

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Actually, so far they are throwing around the idea of a black Lex Luthor with Idris Elba, Denzel Washington, and Colin Salmon in the running.
This will not be Superman vs. Batman, but a launching platform for the Justice League universe. DC is unable to build a universe, so they are hoping that using their 2 biggest franchises will allow them to skip the origin stories and just hit the ground running.
So expect the casting rumors to start looking as convoluted as "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

Captain Phillips was actually a very good film - better than my expectations. You know what is going to happen, it's just a question of timing. Anyway, the film really puts you through the ordeal of the Captain and Tom Hanks' acting is quite believable.

Yeah exactly. Was much better than I had expected at first. Hanks' acting is out of this world, specially at the end.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Finally got around to watching some movies that were long overdue a viewing:
Man of Steel - 6/10
Think the consensus on this movie was spot on. Great visuals, great fight scenes and all around action, but the plot....still needs some work and there just too many little inconsistencies that didn't make a mite of sense.
A vast improvement over the 2005 version (Kevin Spacey was still awesome nonetheless), but this was promising at least. Michael Shannon was top as Zod...great casting. I am indifferent to Russell Crowe as Jor-El, but thought Henry Cavill did a capable of job as Superman as well.
The Wolverine - 7/10
I have honestly tired of these Wolverine-centric movies, but my favorite comic book plots of this character have always centered around his adventures in Japan with Mariko. Pretty well made, Hugh Jackman was as good as ever, and a strong Japanese cast really came to the fore. Only character I didn't care for at all was Viper. She just looked out of place here and it doesn't do anything for her own plotlines as she's a fairly formidable villain in the X-Men/Avengers universe.
Pacific Rim - 8/10
Exactly what I expected from a Guillermo Del Toro monster flick. This flick did well to blend your classic monster flicks (inspired no doubt by Gojira and that line of films) as well as Mecha anime, which honestly never interested me much. Refreshing to see Charlie Hunman outside of Sons of Anarchy, but Idris Elba's character....just not feeling it. Loved his scenes with Mako, but he's no Bill Pullman (see Independance Day). He's much better when his dialogue is less, but his words are more profound. There many of those scenes in this movie so that much I liked, but overall, not a good fit for me. And of course, you gotta get Ron Perlman back into this type of movie. A good homage to Hellboy, another Del Toro classic.

Disconnect
An intriguing suspenseful drama. It is a tale of different stories that shows how people and families can "disconnect". I love movies like this that brings out morality and emotion. And it's the truth. These things happen everyday. And it is well acted and the direction is also spot on. So yeah, I definitely recommend it.
My rating: 7.7/10

Oh and got around to watching Iron Man 3 as well.
4/10
Didn't like it at all. None of the flair or magic of the first film and wasn't even better than the clearly mediocre 2nd one. RDJR had his moments, but not enough to carry this film.
Pretty awful.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
The Before trilogy!
Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight
Brilliant movies if you are in the mood for a romantic drama film. Especially for the type that likes great dialogues and lots of moral and life conversations. I found this trilogy more interesting as I see myself fairly similar to the character that Ethan Hawke plays. Especially the way he talks to the woman, the way he walks and looks at her when he's around her, that's exactly how I am around this other girl (which I'm friends with) that's in my class.
Anyways, as a overall I give the trilogy a very good 8/10.

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
The Desolation of Smaug was definitely better than An Unexpected Journey. Much faster paced and didn't feel like they were taking their time unnecessarily on anything, unlike in the first one where things intentionally dragged on. Of course, not everything is balls-to-the-wall paced but that's because not much was cut out from the book and a number of things were added, but there is much more action.
Like the first Hobbit movie, the action is pretty damn unrealistic with the heroes just mowing down enemies like it's not difficult at all, and it's almost cliche how they get saved at the last second every damn time they are about to die, but outside of that stuff, it was really enjoyable. Some people in the theatre wouldn't shut up about how it wasn't an accurate depiction of what happens in the book, but honestly for film purposes, every change that was made enhanced the entertainment value. If you want a carbon copy of what was in the book, just read the fecking book and imagine it however you want.
As objectively as a Tolkien fan-boy can be, I'd say 8/10. The theatre wasn't even full though, which was pretty surprising, and annoying since one of my friends made us go an hour early to get good seats

Re: The Movie House - Part 3
Good to hear Eman. Currently rewatching An Unexpected Journey right now to get up that hype factor as I'll be going to see Desolation of Smaug tomorrow.
Shaking my head yes in agreement as you talk about things being dragged on in An Unexpected Journey, watching it right now...that's certainly the case in (too) many parts.
