I loved Southpaw and liked him in Demolition. Everest was meh.
Haven't seen Nocturnal yet.
Accidental Love was made in 07 or something.
Nothing Oscar-worth yet though.
Gyllenhaal did Everest for the money most likely. his role was so minimal it makes no sense otherwise. And plus they actually shot the film at base camp in Everest so he actually got to go to Everest. He seems to be one in for the experience if nothing else. I would have done it.
Southpaw was good. People loved Creed but yet love to throw shade on this. It's literally almost the exact same movie.
Nocturnal Animals was a very good movie. He had a supporting role in it, so not much screen time but the movie itself is good.
Demolition was one where he got to do different ranges. It seems those depression movies are actors dreams. I didn't love the movie itself but his acting was great.
Life, I haven't seen yet. The cast is packed but seems to be a movie milking the current space movie bubble.

It looks absolutely great
meh. Stephen King adaptation.
BTW, how many of you have seen Get Out? Haven't seen a lot of talk about it here. Might be my next cinema visit.

There's nothing to defend. It was very hard to live up to his 5 film streak of Nightcrawler, Enemy, Prisoners, End of Watch, and Source Code.
Like I said I've enjoyed him in all of his recent films and roles.

Just thought he would pick his roles better after he pretty much gave the best male performance the year of Nightcrawler.
I'm a big fan. I really do hope he goes for that Oscar and gets it some time.

He also hit 4 out of 6 homeruns earlier in his career.
Brokeback, Jarhead, Zodiac and Brothers. Those 4 movies were amazing, or his performances were (wasn't huge on Jarhead). Still think he should've probably won for Brokeback. That performance broke me.
You'd be hardpressed to find anyone with such an impressive list of films at his age. Only DiCaprio and him can be in that conversation tbh.
Here are his film that considered good to fantastic
October Sky
Donnie Darko (Not a huge fan, but everyone else seem to love it).
The Good Girl
The Day After Tomorrow (I'll fight anyone telling me different)
Brokeback Mountain
Jarhead
Zodiac
Brothers
Source Code
End of Watch
Prisoners
Breaking Bad
Enemy
Nightcrawler
Then:
Southpaw
Demolition (it was good-ish).
Nocturnal animals.
For someone at 36 that's amazing really.
Can't wait for his films this year. Especially Okja.. That film is going to be amazing. No doubt.
Then he has the Boston Marathon surviver biopic and Paul Dano's directing debut with main gurl Carey Mulligan.
Gonna be a great year for him. 2015+2016 were good but not great. Weren't the lead we all expected though.

I'm sure he will. He's very young still in terms of actors career longevity.
And yes I agree about his performance in Nightcrawler. Best of the year and one of the best of the century. Definitely robbed an Oscar, let alone a nomination.

It's one of the 3 best of this century imo.
DDL as Daniel Plainview
Jake G as Lou Bloom
and then I'd go for Fassbender in Shame/Hunger or Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler.
Actually so many amazing performances that didn't win or should've been nominated.
Cannot believe Rourke didn't win. Still makes me mad.

Did you see a poster of him in Okja? He seems to be playing a crazy American dressed in some outrageous circus clothes. Can't wait.
He's got another collaboration with Denis Villeneuve as well after Denis completes Dune. Base on the novel The Son by some Scandinavian dude.

Re: The Movie House - Part 10
Jo Nesbø is a huge writer here in Scandinavia
He has like 100 films in development now it seems.
He also wrote The Snowman with Fassbender this year.
My two favourite actors both being in crime mysteries from the same writer
That pictures looks amazing ffs. Can't wait.

Yeah it's up there with Fassbender (Shame) and Phoenix (Her) as far as best male performances go for this decade.
I don't know how high that performance is for this century. There were some great ones in the 00s. Ledger (TDK), himself in Brokeboke as Freeza mentioned, Leo (The Aviator), DDL (There Will Be Blood & Gangs of New York), Bardem (No Country for Old Folk), Crowe (A Beautiful Mind), Penn (Mystic River), Waltz (Ingloriuos Basterds), Denzel (Training Day), Guy Pearce (Memento), Christian Bale (The Prestige & American Psycho)
Actually now that I'm thinking about it. For me it's always tough to pick out extremely great performances from Nolan's films. I just think his films always have so much going on that it takes away from the acting standing out somewhat. (not that it is a bad thing of course). BUT who would you guys pick as the best acting performance from a Nolan film? I'd go with Bale in The Prestige. Just loved him in it. He was magnificent. Pearce isn't that far behind, but easily Bale for me.

OH wait I actually forgot Ledger even though I mentioned him in that list
Everyone's probably gonna go for that, so then make your top 3s like Freeza did.
Mine
1. Ledger
2. Bale
3. Pearce

Above average it seems. Reviewers saying its visually stunning, Johansson's great but it does not bother exploring the philosophical themes like it did in the original.

Above average is basically what I'd call good. 73% on rotten tomatoes is a good score. Never thought it would cross 30 despite looking gorgeous. Can't wait to watch the visuals.

Hype af for that movie
Also thought ghost in the shell would absolutely bomb with critics so it's doing well for itself
