Huntelaar just signed a new deal at Schalke, driving his price well up if not taking him off the market completely. I don't think Arsenal are in for him anymore, if they ever were.

Definitely not in for him now that he's signed a new deal.

Ba is definitely clinical. His numbers are up there with the best strikers in the league.

Ba gets good crosses. The current Arsenal team is incapable of crossing the ball consistently. Also, Newcastle hoof it very often and ask Ba to jump on the deflected ball that end up in the box. His actual on the ball technique is very poor.

These type of strikers are useless unless Arsenal decide to change styles.

Word around Spain is that Malaga are not going to sell anyone until the summer. They are challenging UEFA in court....

I mean seriously Raptor... what's the point of getting CFs who are targetmen when you play a style that requires a ball playing CF. And there's ample sample size now... we don't know how to cross the ball! ffs. I realize Ba is cheap. But all you need to do is watch his second half last year to understand how he would do if he needs to play outside the box.

Complete over-simplification of Ba.

Is Ba any kind of step up from what we already have?

If we sign Ba, does that make Giroud a flop? :coffee:

With the right service, Giroud and even Chamakh can be threat imo.

We need a striker with good first touch, I guess Wenger forgot about the strikers he had with great first touch.

Giroud's first touch is immaculate. Again, people are forgetting how much of a threat he is when on the pitch due to not featuring very much this month

no it isnt, what kind of giroud have you been watching mate? its average at best, Dont know where your coming from with a comment like that. look giroud is a good player but nobody is forgetting the impact he has on our team. we know how useful he can be but we also know how useless he can be at times aswell.

Not really. I've watched almost all of Newcastle's games the past 2 years because i follow French players that can be part of NT and newcastle has several... that's exactly how he plays. They tried to make him become more by moving him into a Rooney or CR7 type position and he failed miserably.

Ba has the touch of a rapist and very little pace. He can only play a certain type of football and this to stay in or in very close proximity to the area. He has no other use.

I kind of agree with both of you here. Giroud's touch and his overall technique have surprised me, because I always thought he was "just" a targetman.

The thing is we don't need another forward/striker if Theo signs, but with our contract negotiations in the last few years Walcott's situation seems more and more dire by the day.

In an ideal scenario where Walcott signs "da thing" a front 3 of Poldi-Giroud-Walcott seems more than capable for me, at least for this season.

Our midfield is more of a concern imho.

A player of Capoue's stature would add much needed height, physical presence and general defensive solidity and thus improving us in the defensive department while also allowing Cazorla and co. to have less responsibilities when it comes to defending.

My 2 cents, although this topic has been discussed endless times. Laughing

The reason Giroud isn't as effect as he should be is the same one as Chamakh, there is no one there to receive the ball from his headers.

He is always alone when he wins headers that's why the ball always go back to opposition. Look at what happens when Santi makes runs in the box, like he did against reading, he gets chances.

Everton are a great example of how one should use target man, while also playing passing football.

Exactly. Giroud has the best header in EPL imo, if was at Newcastle he would be scoring just like Ba.

We need a Nolan type of player who is good at poaching 2nd balls, he is amazing when he plays with Carroll because he is always there to get Carroll's headers

Santi can do that because he is small and is able to sneak into tight places, but i think he plays too deep at times, we never have enough people in the box

Poldi says hi.

In all seriousness, Poldi will do much better and could be more effective than Santi, not taking anything away from Santi ofcourse.

Poldi will play as a SS and will be more effective than before.

Also, I must state something. Poldi can start playing as an SS where his position on paper is as an LW. He should come in more than going out wide, which should be owned by Gibbs
