I'd take him at Juve but still chokes himself to near death come the big nights.
I hope he can get over that.

Well, that means either Stuttgart or Freiburg will be in the EL next season, no matter where they end up in the BL.RealGunner wrote:Bayern face Stuttgart or Freiburg in the final

Bayern have their toughest choking challenge yet in playing Stuttgart or Freiburg.

I don't think the Bundesliga is that easy, I just think Bayern are on another level of clinical right now. Last year we had issues with consistency, but this season we are on a mission.
Especially, when I can only think of 2 games (BATE and Arsenal) where we were didn't maintain our mental toughness and form.

I really like his playstyle, but I also like his hairstyle. I've really thought of getting the sort of quiff that he has but it really wouldn't work well for my hairstyle (plus I have a light caramel complexion so it really wouldn't work out) but he's one of my favourite players and I could write a 3000 word essay on him if I really wanted to.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
When did that myth of Gomez choking or not being a big-game player get started anyway?
There's certain things he can not do (have a decent first touch, for example, or make a proper assist, or do a stepover) and there are certain things he does very well (shoot a ball that is already in front of him into a goal in a way that doesn't allow any resistance, and run into spaces to be better able to do that).
I hear tons of people crying that he doesn't press like Mandzukic, or doesn't have the technique of Pizarro.
You'll never see either of those bagging 40 goals/season two seasons in a row.
Gomez is a f*cking poacher, and your system must be able to sustain a poacher, or his lack of midfield work rate will kill your game.
But if you can sustain him, he is the best poacher in the world, period.
I don't want the guy anywhere near the NT (well, ok, I want him on the bench, just in case), because he doesn'T fit the system. But once you start feeding hte guy, his conversion rate is insanely good. And he did score in big games quite often. He just happens to need service, because he's a penalty box lurking poacher.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Gomez takes Bayern to DFB Pokal final, however will he take them to the CL final next week? Will be interesting to see. I'm not sure why he wouldn't start against Barca. He was an undisputed starter last season and he's one of the best goalscorers in the World.

i agree, i truly can't see any good possibility of barca going though against bayern... This bayern team is better than ANY team barca has faced in the last 4 years.

What I like about Gomez is just his anticipation and movement. These GIFs [courtesy of my friend Kurt] show just how he runs and gets into position all the time. Nice hat-trick.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Well, I always tried to break it to people that Bayern may like their possession, but they are not fixated on it and can do lightning fast counters if it is the better strategy. Barcelona will have their possession in the CL semi, while Bayern will simply resort to counters where Barca are most vulnerable. Bayern realised last year that the lack of a plan B was not clever.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
Mario Gómez was injured from beginning of August 2012 to end of November 2012 and Mario Mandžukić stood in for him. As he made such a great impact, Jupp Heynckes thought it would be unfair to kick him out right away, especially as his work rate was better than that of Mario Gómez.

Re: Former Player: Mario Gómez
And Plan B, frankly, even their bench countering is still annoyingly good, even though it has nothing to do with their first team holding possession.

yeah IMO mandzukic was man of the match against juventus in both matches, he is the one that makes the defenders afraid and thats why he should start.
