Re: Ze German Thread
Beat me to it, rwo. Just read his FB post
Lukas Podolski wrote:Liebe Fans,
Danke an meine Mitspieler.
Machts gut! Es war mir eine Ehre!
Eure Nummer 10 Poldi

Re: Ze German Thread
Well 129 caps and 49 goals scored are absolutely great, especially in a national team like Germany. Nonetheless I think he chose the right time to retire now. So long and thanks for all the goals!

Re: Ze German Thread
Can't hear the mascot-nonsense anymore. I know Podolski didn't wow anyone in the past couple seasons, but he never cost us anything- Löw could always sub him in, and he'd be a stable position on the left, making the occasional threatening run with a good finish, and tracked back rigorously. That man is a Germany international legend, and a national treasure.
Of course we don't lose anything now by him quitting, we have excellent replacements on his positions. But on the other hand, with a different manager, in a 4-4-2, Podolski would've still scored the odd goal, and been more consistent than what lesser teams consider their main, treasured, strikers.

Re: Ze German Thread
3rd most capped german player (he was only 7 games away to beat Klose, who is 2nd.)
4th best scorer of the NT with 49 goals.
Very impressive for someone who was not a real starter.

Re: Ze German Thread
He was just one of those guys who always performed for the NT.
Ironic twist that he's Polish.
But wait. Klose was also Polish...
Who needs to produce strikers with such a Godly midfield?

I was not referring to his on-pitch contributions. I just meant we need such a bantergasm character in the dressing room, who keeps everyone happy and motivated.

Re: Ze German Thread
Meh, Bellarabi, again?
The most pretentious option for losing the ball... Can't stand that guy.
Glad to see Brandt back, though, Zwieback-Kid gotta zwieback. Also liking the Süle callup. Think Knoche should probably also follow soon...ish. Don't understand the Ginter snub though. Did I miss something important?
Fell out of favor at Dortmund too, apparently, does he have cooties?

Well, Jogi Löw snubs all of Gladbach, too. He really should try out André Hahn and/or Lars Stindl IMO.

Re: Ze German Thread
Already Internationals again?
I like that Leno is called back, he is probably the second best German keeper, I think Adler is better then ter Stegen, but he probably still does not feel good about being a back up to Neuer.
I dont think Can is good enough to play for Germany. I like him, he works hard 100% efforrt and all that, but he never plays well for the national team. Reading the English press and fanzones, it seems everyone thinks Mustafi is the saviour for arsenal. Not sure why? Like Can, I just dont think he is good enough for the NT.
I do like Sule and Tah, I think they have the potential to be a better pairing than Hummels and Boateng. I think they would be better "defensively" not sure they are as good as Hummels going forward.
I dont know who you pick as the strikers. I think you need someone who is good in the air, just dont know who that is? Selkie, Lasogga? Meier is probably the best, but he wont get picked.
