Okay, fellow Krauts and supporters of cabbage-based foods:

How do we line up?
I'm still voting double-Benders in defensive midfield. Screw Piggy and Khedira, having twins just owns every other possibility.  tongue

============================================================

German NT / Nationalelf Thread

Sorry to edit your starting post, but I (rwo) thought it might be a sensible place to mention one thing concerning the German NT:

It is the weird custom of foreigners to call our football team "Die Mannschaft", but I would like to mention that "Die Mannschaft" only means "the crew" or "the team" and actually sounds more like you are talking about the crew of a ship or an airplane or something like that.

If you want to use the proper term for the German NT, please use either "Nationalmannschaft" (= "national team") which still is rather broad as it could be the icehockey national team or any other sports team, too, or more precise the "Fußballnationalmannschaft" (although I would like to see how many tongues would be twisted by non-German speakers using that).

To make it simple you could also  just use "Nationalelf" (=National 11) or "DFB-Elf" (= DFB 11) or even "DFB-Auswahl" (=DFB selection). I mean, they use Elftal for the Dutch, too, why not Nationalelf for the German team?

I absolutely agree - a Bender double 6 will make the opponents double over, and not just because they'll think they will see double Very Happy

(And why on Earth doesn't Löw call up Ballack for Aserbaidschan?)

Yeah that made me uber mad. Löw is a dick to Ballack, and the Capitano deserves better imho.

Well, Löw's dealing with Kurányi was likewise idiotic IMO.

At least with Kuranyi there was the semblance of a reason, with Ballack he's just being a dick.

Well, I just didn't like how stubborn Löw continued to ignore Kurányi no matter how many goals he scored. I think it was unfair, too. But the Ballack case is of course worse, especially as the injury wasn't Ballack's fault.

And Ballack wasn't bad for Leverkusen. Sure, not his old self again, yet, but he sure as hell deserves to start ahead of anybody bar Piggy and Khedira, especially if we're only bashing minnows like Azerbaijan or England (trololol).

Yeah. I hope that England will qualify for the EC somehow. I'd love the German NT to play them again. Very Happy

I'd prefer one of the Bender twins to stick to the bench, so they can go with your "switch twins at half time, and you can't tell" trick Very Happy .

But honestly, who's going to replace Piggy? Khedira would maybe be replaced, but in the form the guy is in it's gonna be hard.

Also, this may sound like blasphemy but Schurlle has impressed me more than Podolski in the games I've seen him in. Sad I'd start him over Poldi against Azarbaijan and the lesser sides.

Oh dear, I bet they will require them to get their names tattooed somewhere Very Happy

Well, maybe Toni Kroos can grow into that position in time. But it will take a while still.

Blasphemy ir is indeed, but I agree - Schürrle looked pretty good, especially against Uruguay.

Yeah the whole Schürrle thing pains me, but you guys are kinda right. ^^

BTW of course Piggy is set for now, neither Bender really is a playmaker, but I like them both better than Khedira, as in I think they're better.

By the way, did you see the new German kits? Home is so-so, but the new Away Kit is totally mehh. They scrapped the beautiful black and went back to the horrible green. I want to see my players on the field, why did it have to be camouflage green again?

On the other hand, the Away Kit of the German ladies for the 2011 World Cup is utter class:

That the all-blacks are gone, or the pencil-thin stripes on the white kit... Both horrible...

My suggestion - watch the Women's World cup and enjoy the classy kits of the gals for a change.

But they really should scrap these awful green away kits of the guys!

TBH I think the green kit looks good, I just don't want our NT to play in it. WTF green. Meh. We need intimidating colours, like red, and black.

They look pretty similar to that though, I like the retro feel the green kit has to it, I just think that the all-black kit made our opponents crap their pants - and I liked that idea.

Damn, the women's kit is sexy. Screw lingerie, I'll make the lady prance around in that for me.

The Green is supposed to be some call-bake to '72. I hate when they do that. Just move forward; the black was damned good looking.

I know what you mean. I've never liked long-sleeve kits, though. They don't seem sporty enough for me.

Well, at least they played in black today. Albeit with white shorts.

BTW, Azerbaijan 1:3 Germany, Germany 7 consecutive wins in the EC qualification. Nice job!
