Re: Ze German Thread
Well, no one who is not in the 30-men-squad will go to the World Cup, so it is really just bad luck for Mario Gomez. With Sami Khedira, Mario Klose, Benedikt Höewedes and Marcel Schmelzer, he already has some guys whis injuries, so adding even more of that would be really problematic.

Today's experimental Germany squad for the friendly against Poland with Jule Draxler as the youngest ever captain for a German NT (as he has the most caps in this team...):

Since almost a decade now our national team has been in the firm grip of undeserving Swabians.
Löw can't fool us about where the center of his universe lies.
Look at all those players from Hoffenheim, Stuttgart, Freiburg, and Augsburg

Well, truth be told, the Bavarians and Dortmund guys are not available today. And at least he took 4 guys from Schalke along, so the Ruhr Area is still represented despite no black+yellow player around.

Bela Rethy could make me stop watching Germany all on his own.
I don't mind watching a few decent but unexciting youngsters running around in a meaningless borefest, but having to listen to this guy on top is too much.

Well, I have to admit, I fell asleep somewhere in the middle of the second half. But fortunately I woke up in time for Markus Lanz as he has Sepp Maier as one of his talk guests.

Re: Ze German Thread
3 - Germany scored only 3 goals in their last 4 matches. That happened last from October 2005 to March 2006.
12 - 12 players made their debut in the German national team today. Jogi Löw allowed 0.82 debuts/match in his 102 games before.

Re: Ze German Thread
I don't know how Low can risk taking so little in terms of strike force to a world cup. Even if everything else clicks that itself may be enough to cook the team's goose.
Re: Ze German Thread
Well, half of the midfielders are secretly strikers.

Not knowing who out of them is supposed to create for whom they'll probably get in each other's way.
Re: Ze German Thread
Well, Thomas Müller is always good for a goal or two and especially for the important ones. And if you saw the match yesterday, you will have seen that Poldi is a very good team player who gives the ball to others if they are in a better position. Then we have Toni Kroos who often ignores the command not to shoot from farther away who has a really nice long distance shot. Even though yesterday he was largely anonymous, normally Özil is always good for an assist or two, so we actually should be good in the end.
As a matter of fact, it is pretty usual in the Bundesliga that we do not have high-scoring goal scorers as practically everybody and their dog are able to score. Our main problem isn't scoring, it is the defense.

Very fair and interesting arguments. Thomas Muller I say is the most underrated player in the world. Just because he is not a magician with the ball at his feet people forget just how useful he is to a team, to a situation, to winning.
BTW who will be Germany's starting number 9? I assume the formation will be 4-2-3-1.

The lack of mention of Schurrle is disturbing.

I noticed I forgot to mention Marco Reus, too, although now this is likely mootBlue wrote:The lack of mention of Schurrle is disturbing.
BTW, Reus suffered a partial rupture of his anterior syndesmosis above his left ankle.
The DFB are currently waiting with a decision as they want to see how things will develop. They have time to call up a replacement until 24 hours before the first match.-

Re: Ze German Thread
Update - Marco Reus is definitely out now. Jogi Löw takes Shkodran Mustafi along for him.

(WTF? Why not Kevin Volland as another proper striker?)

Re: Ze German Thread
Fuknig hell, he was probably top 3-5 players I was most excited to watch for the WC. Absolutely terrible luck, gutted. ((((((((((((
Fair to say Germany weakened quite a bit too. Now they will have to start Podolski lol! Although from the highlights looked like he played really well

omg! That s*cks! Poor Reus I feel for him. Must be so disappointing.
I really hope for Klose being able to end his career on a high note and show us a litlle "magic" once more. Never thought he would still be playing in this WC.
Really wish him all the best. He seems like such a nice and modest person.

Gutted for Reus, but Poldi should be starting anyway. If not him, Schürrle or Götze will do.
