Sorry guys, but having a 3 CB system without any good fullbacks is just asking for the good ol' kick and run down the flanks. I get you're blessed with quality CB options, but there is no way in hell I see Mueller (even with his workrate) holding a flank on his own, even more so considering he loves cutting in to scoring positions. That just leaves his flank wide open. I need to see more of Hector to judge, but from what I've seen, the flanks haven't been secure enough even with deeper positions and players closer to the byline. If Lahm were available, or you'd play an extremely defensive game (nLöw, way)... maybe.

Neuer
Kimmich/Can Boateng Hummels Hector
Weigl Kroos
Mueller Oezil Draxler
Godmez

If Godmez is on a bad day, well, play Mueller upfront and sub in Goetze. I don't like Mueller up front, but he will be much more effective than Goetze, that's for sure. He can like, finish.

Oh I'm not a huge fan of the 3 CB system, Sushi, I just mentioned it because it would be better suited to the players Löw did select, to make the point that even with his player selection, he theoretically could've fielded a side that makes somewhat sense tactically.

Of course it would be far better to swap out a few players.

Sushi's lineup is just fine. I wouldn't like Can as RB though and therefore really would like Löw to try Kimmich

Yeah agreed, that would probably work really well. In fact, Kimmich in, and some solution like Götze or Shirley for Draxler and it'd be who I'd start.

Couldn't see the game, how did KIMMICH do?

If we could find a true successor for LAHM in him, that would be *bleep* amazing and very very important.
And I#m talking about BAYERN, I couldn't care less about Germany :coffee:

He was quite good, i liked his performance. Pretty terrible at crossing though. But this is just N.Ireland we're talking about.

I got this, Jogi.

Neuer
Kimmich Höwedes Boateng Hector
Kroos Schweinsteiger
Müller Özil Draxler
Podolski

Hummels back in for the final for Höwedes; switch in Götze as needed if any forward gets injured/fails to perform. Schürrle at 65th minute to push the tempo.

You're welcome.

Let's not pretend like we don't have a serious problem.

We do not have a striker, and the one quasi-striker we have, Müller, is in the singularly worst form of his career and a mere sad, farcical shell of the top player he usually is. Normally, Müller would need to be *bleep* benched ASAP, YESTERDAY. But what are we going to do? Field Schürrle? Götze again? Ugh.
Sorry state.

I have to correct you guys and inform you that Poldi is not in fact in the squad as a player, but as a mascot, funny hat-bearer and resident prankster.
AFAIK he's not eligible to actually play, thank god.

Calm your tits guys.

Yes, France is ridiculously strong and already was the next best thing after us at the 2014 WC, so of course going out to them is a possibility.

And yes, having no injuries or suspensions would be better.

But let's take a step back.

1) The Hummels suspension.
While this sucks, Hummels' unique skill set is mostly redundant to Boateng anyway, and he will be replaced by Benedikt Höwedes, or Benny H as he's known in Gelsenkirchens underground rap battle scene (parts of this sentence might contain lies) - is the freaking captain of Schalke, and a pretty damn good CB himself, one I actually called for during the last Euros to replace Hummels even without injury or suspension.
While I do prefer Hummels, I think Höwedes will do fine, and if we lose, it won't be because of him. Hummels passing game can be done by Boateng, his defending by Höwedes, no skin off our collective arses. Sure it's better to have two outlets instead of one, but come on, most NTs have zero CBs with this kind of passing. Chill.

2) Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger are injured.
Well this kinda sucks. Germany always seem to have more cohesion when Piggy plays, but to be fair, he barely played in this tournament and it didn't hurt. And Khedira was replaced by Piggy without any noticable drop in midfield quality. So we can probably assert that they're about equally important to our game, now that Kroos does most of the heavy lifting in connecting defense, midfield, and attack, provided Boateng doesn't just pass straight to the forwards anyway, leaving out the midfield altogether.
If really neither of them gets fit in time, we have an apt replacement in either Weigl, or Can, either of which can be trusted to fill in in this role, as long as Kroos is still next to them, taking most of the responsibility and leaving them to only iron out the odd error or random through ball.

3) Gómez is out for the tournament.
This really hurts. We have no like-for-like replacement for this player, and that's not even taking into account his incredible run of form.
But we do have other options.
First of all we can just put Götze back on. Sure, it didn't work all too well in the first two matches of the tournament, but let's not forget we also played without Kimmich, then.

Actually having fullbacks (or wingbacks, shut up) might already give us enough of an attacking boost that Götze might now look much, much more effective.
We can also use any of Schürrle, Podolski, or Müller up front. And then replace Müller with whoever. Sané, maybe. Schürrle. Podolski.
We will have to slightly adjust tactics, but it's not like we'll be forced to put a shit player on the pitch.

Yes those injuries and the suspension hurt. But if we lose, the bigger factors will probably be France being brilliant, and the entire team still being tired from the Italy match.

We'll be fine.
Or not.
But we could've just as easily lost against this great France with our full squad, if we're being honest.

Looks like the kids have to save us then. Bring on Julian Weigl, Jule Draxler and Leroy Sané! (Pity that Löw left Christoph Kramer at home - he would have been an option for Khedira as in the World Cup, if he would have upped his game a little again.)
