Re: Ze German Thread
Style-wise, I liked us best at the 2010 WC, we were just lacking quality and depth back then, but that slick transition-play, with counters, which we lured the opposition into by overcrowding their box when they dared give us possession was an awesome mix.
And Müller up front sounds nice, but why, though? When I take your cue, I'd much rather play
Müller - Özil - Götze
------ Gomez
Though on current form in the NT you can bench Özil for all I care.

Re: Ze German Thread
It would be nice to see Gomez up front as that would hopefully mean a more direct attitude from the team!

Poor boy
I'm curious who will be called up to replace him. I'm not so sure Sebastian Rudy would really be a good idea. -_- I vote for a surprise call-up of Jonathan Tah!

Can players who weren't in the preliminary squad be called up?

I don't see why not. The real question is - would Jogi Löw consider someone he didn't select for the preliminary squad?

I'm pretty sure each coach selected 3 players to call up in place of injuries until the euros start.

Re: Ze German Thread
Sure. For Germany there is one spare defensive player in Sebastian Rudy, but he's normally more of a DM, so if Löw wants to have a 1:1 replacement for Antonio Rüdiger, Jonathan Tah or even Matthias Ginter might make more sense. But then, you can't count on Jogi Löw making sense most of the time

Re: Ze German Thread
Why not Tah or the Gintman though? Ginter's had a mostly good season.
Maybe he signaled that he didn't love riding the bench at the WC all that much, and Löw took issue?

Well, the problem ist that neither Jonathan Tah nor Matthias Ginter were in the preliminary squad, so the question is whether Löw will think of them....

Ffs another last opportunity to call up a more natural RB. There's already too many CB's even with Rüdiger's injury.
He's too stubborn though.

According to SSNHD, Jogi Löw called up Jonathan Tah to replace Antonio Rüdiger. I'm positively surprised.

I love Tah, but think of the Neverkusen-curse!
We had a squad without Neverkusen players, which, as we all know, is the only chance to win titles. I'm super afraid now.

Re: Ze German Thread
The media coverage and so-called experts are infuriating.
You hear those people criticizing Löw, which is a great thing to do, because Löw f*cking sucks, but oh boy do they do it in a dumb, dumb way.
Like, the Özil/Götze thing. Suddenly they're both shit? Özil played an amazing season with Arsenal, Götze has delivered for the NT more often than he has not. The problem is Löws tactics, the players are great.
Götze isn't a scrub, it's just that he also isn't a striker. Bring on Gomez, FFS. Or insulting Höwedes? That man is a national treasure! He just is a center back, so of course he isn't all that great going forward.
Just play a back-three, or play one of Can or Kimmich on the right, accept that they'll occasionally f*ck up on the defense and enjoy the increased forward mobility. But all those players out of position not performing isn't the players' fault.

Re: Ze German Thread
Goetze hasn't even played false nine under fracking Guardiola. Not that I'm a fan of Guardiola, but he at least knows when you're gonna do a half decent job or not under a position. Judging from his performances, he's completely out of it.
I still think that it's kinda of a waste playing both Goetze and Oezil. For them to shine, you need to place them in the creative fulcrum and give them freedom. Whenever you place them on the wings, their creativity drops. Maaaybe Goetze can pull it off, if he comes back to Dortmund form or something when he did exactly that, buuut... He needs to get his shit together. Wish him luck under Ancelotti.
Hoewedes is great... as a CB. You could even swap Boateng and Hoewedes. Boateng is definitely much better going forward. Of course, the more logical option would be calling up Jung or Beck or whatever. A natural RB. If you're going to set up your tactics the way he's from what I see Low's setting them up, well, you need mobility on your flanks, or you're just wasting space and killing your attacks.
How is Hoewedes or all players supposed to cover for Mueller when he goes on his ghosting runs? Or how are they supposed to coherently arm an attack? It's not frakking Mueller's fault, but it ain't Howedes either, when you cannot effectively function there. For the current call up, I'd try on Kimmich, definitely.
I'd like to see Schurrle starting a game out and not only being left as a supersub.

Re: Ze German Thread
My point exactly. We even have the players for a proper formation, right there.
3-4-3
3-5-2
3-1-3-3
Who cares.
Even 4-2-3-1 can work with Hector and Can/Kimmich as RB.
Höwedes and Götze are both great players, they're the problem because they're played out of position, not because they suck. I want Gomez and Kimmich not becuase they're better, but because we play a formation that needs them.
We can also play with the current players.
Just make it a back-3 of Höwedes, Boateng, and Hummels, stick Hector and Özil on the flanks as false wingbacks (!), and boom.
Like so:
Of course this is far from optimal, but it illustrates you could play a lot less players out of position. Ideally you'd switch a few players out, but there's really no merit to insisting on playing everyone out of position, and without any width.
Since Boateng/Hummels dart foward all the time anyway, I really don't think it would hurt to sacrifice the #10, those types of players don'T find any space in the modern game anymore anyway. Rather build play from deep, have some width, and keep all players in their comfort zone.

Re: Ze German Thread
Mesut Ozil has hit back at Jerome Boateng after the defender criticises Germany’s attack in their goalless draw with Poland.
Joachim Low’s side currently sit at the top of Group C and face Northern Ireland in their final group game.
But after their stalemate with Poland, Boateng was less than happy.
“We did not win any one-on-one duels in attack,” he said.
“There was not a lot of movement — it just wasn’t enough.
“We have to take shots. It’s all good until we reach the final third, but we can’t get past the opponents, are not dangerous. We need to improve that, otherwise we won’t get far.”
But Ozil bristled at Boateng’s assessment and gave a sarcastic reply to the defender’s analysis.
“That’s his opinion,” said the Arsenal midfielder.
“He certainly knows how to play attacking football.”
