Man Aus looked good today, If SA can pull it together against Samoa then we are up for an awesome Quarter Final!

Re: The Rugby World Cup 2011 Thread
Serious question, does a game like Australia vs ireland, excite you guys? Not even one try, i was going to support Aus in it, but now after that game it's like, hmmm 80 mins and i have no guarantee that someone will score, really no excitement, might be biased as im a league fan, but meh. Union need to change their scoring to promote better attack and flare, the only thing better that rugby have, is that they still contest the scrums.

Re: The Rugby World Cup 2011 Thread
Err well I guess I'm biased too in this regard. SA has always prided itself on defence and tactically outplaying our opponents, add to that I live in Pretoria so I'm a bulls fan. So i've grown up with that type of rugby... Most South Africans enjoy a good tackle or a great defensive performance on the line as much as a try... we also looooove drop goals...
So yes it does excite me, the question would be answered very differently by a neutral I would think...

Aus played well yesterday but some players got injured. There has been talk of Giteau getting called up.

It depends what games you watch. Some teams have attacking mentalities and their strength is in in their backline (Australia, NZ)... so they like to throw the ball around and run it with their backs which is much more exciting than League. However, most of the European teams and Sth Africa have good forwards and defence and generally play for 3 pointers, which is pretty boring and I hate watching those games.
Aus vs Ireland was very boring because Ireland thwarted Australia's attacking play. If they opened up they would have got killed though. Kind of like Barca versing buses...

Lievremont's selection policy and the performance of some of the players could make some people think the rumours are true.

Guy did you even question that they wasn't true? The French are afraid of that side of the draw... I really don't know why they worried NZ would of prolly beaten them if they were at full strength anyway...

Re: The Rugby World Cup 2011 Thread
I'm happy that we didn't run over Samoa, the win helps with confidence, the fact that Samoa and the ref made sure the game was close helps with us staying focused and not getting ahead of ourselves.
The next game is massive for us! Jean is back which is good. Him back at center with Frans taking the 15 jersey from Lambie who can play impact. The second half proved that Smit over bis makes sense. Bis is the best hooker in world Rugby but Smit's leadership is truly irreplaceable. Dani has been massive for us but we should have bakkies back for Aus, which means Bakkies - Victor start together finally, with Dani coming off the bench as almost as big a impact player as Bis.
On an extra note on the ref, I don't know if it's cause I am South African but he really had an absolute Shocker imho. Lost control, Let Samoa get away with a bit too much and the a yellow for Smit!? That was just him evening the odds, it was never a yellow, a penalty maybe but not a yellow, there was no slapping motion he was clearly trying to control the ball, and lets not even talk about the high taclkes he let slide and the coming through the middle at breakdowns that he apparently didn't see... and that's just the bad calls in Samoa's favour he made a few bad calls (not nearly as many) in SA's favour too... McCaw would have a field day with this guy!

Re: The Rugby World Cup 2011 Thread
Australia got their bonus point win today, as expected!
A great, great, great 1st half performance, I think they led 47-5 at half time.
And the 90, or 100 mark was on for the Wallabies, but their 2nd half performance was juz utter shit!
Handling errors, i mean a whole lot of handling errors! A little slow at the breakdown, and it was juz a bad performane even though they won the 2nd half 21-17
And to compile more misery on coach Deans, Mitchell (who worked so hard to be juz here at this World Cup) pulled his hamstring (it looked like) when he was on his way to score his 3rd try, which never came!
Tbh, it would take a somewhat of a miracle for Australia to win the Ellis Webb trophy this year, they haven't been "VINTAGE AUSTRALIA" in the pool games, they're stretched, i mean Nick Phipps, a halfback, at to come on for Mitchell!
They have a week to recover now, and hope that Mitchell's injury ain't that bad, and if they meet (which, tbh, they will now) & beat South Africa in the quarters, then it's on again!
I hope the Aussies can get it together against SA next week, we have that mental advantage as we fecked them in the Tri-Nations both times this year, so it will be a tight tight match, but hopefully our class backline can show SA how it's done!
C'mon Australia!

Deans have to call up some replacements obviously with Mitchell injured. FFS Samo had to play on the wing in this match.

Re: The Rugby World Cup 2011 Thread
England beat Scotland 16-12. Generally a gritty and unattractive game of rugby that Scotland lead and were the better side until England scored a Try near the end.
England through to the next round, Scotland out if Argentina beat Georgia.

Frans Steyn Is out! Not good news at all, one of our majors weapons has been neutralised... I have seen Morne make kicks from 50m out though, so here's hoping!
France deserve that loss! You wanna throw matches this is what you get!
