PC Master Race
Let's get started
What are your opinions about Nvidia Ampere and Big Navi? Ryzen vs Intel? Opinion on emulators like Dolphin or Mame?

Re: PC Master Race
Nvidia Ampere... although AMD is almost certainly a better deal AND they're catching up fast.
Ryzen shits all over Intel right now. AMD is awesome (who would have thought a short few years ago). In fact, Intel is in a world of trouble as Apple is moving to Arm in 2021 or 2022.
No idea about the emulators.
My desktop rig: RTX 2080ti + I9 9900lk + 128gb of Ram (lol)
Laptop: Macbook Pro 15 with I7 chip, 16gb of ram, and AMD card.
What do you think about VR? AR? Pretty fun things on the horizon if the world would stop trying to commit suicide.

i9 9900K is a sexy CPU
on CPUs:
Intel is still faster in games, up to 30% in certain scenarios neverthless AMD's achievment is remarkable. AMDs processor will gradually get faster in games due to the new consoles having Ryzen CPUs, their engines with be optimized to utilize the benefits. They're doing so well saleswise with Ryzen 3000 series that Ryzen 4000 was posponed. That one has got higher clocks and higher IPC for gaming and rendering. Intel has got a design, manufacturig node and cost problem:
1. They're manufacturing lots of separate chips which they cannot glue together like Ryzen if they're partially defect. A celeron is much less worth than a core i10000 CPU but still occupies the production capacities.
2. Their 10nm isn't working in the sense that they cannot achieve current clocks of 5GHz and beyond in 14nm. Even if the chips are more power efficient and much faster per clock with just 4GHz boost speed they're still slower or have got the same speed as the current intels in 14nm++ but intel has to move because the cost per chip for 14nm++ is higher due to more occupied area.
3. As you see they have got lots of waste in 1. and more material costs in 2., additionally intel owns its own fabs which cost a lot if they produce cheap stuff or aren't up to date. This is where Ryzen makes intel suffer. The more market share Ryzen gradually gets the higher the pressure on intel to get with 10nm on somwhow even with subpar performance.
RTX 2080 Ti is a sexy GPU
On GPUs:
AMD isn't a better deal neither is Nvidia. Performance wise, GPU cards in the mainstream segment are still in the area of the old GTX 1080 from years ago but cost more The only real improvement over what we had was RTX 2080Ti which is roughly 30% faster than an old GTX 1080 Ti. I hope Ampere and BigNavi will bring real bigbang performance per bucks. I also like the direction Nvidia is going with RTX. With higher resolutions, one would need a telescope at some point to notice any marginal improvement in display quality. Quality lightning is another story though. With BigNavi supporting RTX, I hope it will do better than VR.
What is your RAM clock? At 128GB, it can't be that high
Apple won't completly move to ARM, they use it to bargain with Intel/AMD. ARM has got nowhere near the performance of x86 and due to that the emulatione of the old software written for x86 (which is the vast majourity in any company) is very slow on a ARM x64 architecture. ARM is the mobile king though (super energy efficient and customizable in the embedded environment). Apple will try to bargain in consumer laptop segments with Intel/AMD.
On VR:
A very exciting technology which was halted by the wrong release time and the price. The price was and is too high, the hardware at the time was too weak. I expected the porn industry to carry the market for VR on but equipment needed to record videos for VR made the porn itself too expensive and the experience itself on weak mobile phones/ PCs was rather laggy
I played Resident Evil 7 in VR though, a vastly different experience. Now, it would be the perfect time to relaunch the VR offensive on all platforms again. PS5, Xbox Series X and PC have got much more similar and performant bases. If they do now, it'll be cheaper and a success.
On AR:
That one is fun as fuck. The technology should be the next step for the non shooting action games from the over the shoulder perspectives like God of War or Castlevania. There's lots of practical application, too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIHPPtPBgHk
On emulation:
It's big on PC and you've got the perfect equipment for that. Dolphin emulator emulates for example Wii and Gamecube games perfectly in 4K Some of the best platformers were released for the Wii like the New Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country Returns:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXL-nII6azE
All Snes, Sega Genesis, Wii U, Wii and PS2 games can be played on PC with higher quality than in original. Mame64 emulates straight out the arcade machines of the past:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4LxgFKMhN8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijpzvooWHNY
Which games do you play as of now?

My current rig is:
Samsung C49RG90 5120x1440 120Hz VA FreeSync2
Sapphire 5700XT Pulse
AMD Ryzen 3600
MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC
Corsair 32GB 3200
Addlink 1TB 4th gen SSD (+ 20TB of various HDD's)
Sound BlasterX G6 + AKG K712 Pro (+ linked to home theater)
Antec TruePower 550W
Logitech G305
Noppoo Choc-84 Mini Mechanical
Fractal Design Define R3
Also have Samsung 10.1 Tab Pro
Will upgrade to AMD Zen 3 when it comes, and also the next gen GPU hoping to fill the monitors 120fps @ 5120x1440 on most games. Don't really care if it's Nvidia or AMD, competition on high end only means that consumer wins.

You've got all 3 Risen parts. How are the games, are they fun?

Re: PC Master Race
Hmm, i once gave this whole PC thing a try; back in 2015 i got an EVGA GTX 970 (at the time was well rated), 16 GB's of ram, I think the CPU was an Intel i5 3.5 ghz of some sort. The computer did a good enough job... that is until i managed to spill about 6 ounces of orange juice right on top of an opening in the PC case that exposed the GPU.
The GPU caught fire and the computer was inoperable until a few months later i decided to check if it still worked and it did once the orange juice had dried. I'm typing from the computer as i write this actually. Bought a PS4 and only played FIFA ever since though.

The first one is one of the great rpg's, although it suffers from bad (sudden) ending like most of Piranha Bytes games (time and funding). It has the unbeatable PB atmosphere and superb score:Babun wrote:You've got all 3 Risen parts. How are the games, are they fun?
Second was ok, and I don't remember if I played the third one at all. I would recommend the first one as you can get it with peanuts, and if it feels good maybe try the sequels. ELEX is PB's newest one and very good, and I'm waiting for the sequel.

Re: PC Master Race
That's typical, I've spilled countless times liquids on keyboards, computers and extension cords. Usually it still functions after it has dried though. The Madrid One wrote:Hmm, i once gave this whole PC thing a try; back in 2015 i got an EVGA GTX 970 (at the time was well rated), 16 GB's of ram, I think the CPU was an Intel i5 3.5 ghz of some sort. I've Batman Arkham Origins too, but it's hidden in Steam, because I don't really care "press x to win" games. Got it for free with some bundle. I also have one Battlefield on Origin client, but forgot which one.

I want to play Resident Evil 5 in Coop with someone or Broforce. I can give you the steam key. Resident Evil 5 is mighty fun but the freaking AI partner is dumb as f***.

I'm still rocking Ninja 4 cooler. I also had Sennheiser HD595 before. I bought them from amazon.de, and two weeks before warranty ended, they went bust. Got full price back, so I bought the AKG ones. Basically I borrowed the headphones two years from amazon.Babun wrote:My system consists of:

Ninja Cooler rocks, big old school no nonsense body. My 1080 Ti went bust during the second year of the warranty, I bought at mindfactory, they replaced it so it's relativly new. I'm still waiting for a worthy replacement to this day. 1100€ for a 2080 Ti which is just 30% faster isn't worth it. I'm also waiting for Ryzen 4000 to replace the mobo and processor.
For Jump n Runs and emulations I've got a Wii U Pro controller with the Mayflash adapter, least wireless lag I got. For everything else, I've got a plain white Xbox One controller. For fighting games I built two fightsticks myself with the help of akishop from Japan. I ordered arcade parts from there directly

Yeah Ninjas are huge, huge is good. I'm going with this as long as I can buy adapters for it, water cooling doesn't really perform any better. Damn mindfactory stopped sending stuff in Finland couple years back, it was my go to place. My 1070 had a fan breakdown, which is why I bought 5700XT as replacement, until I got the new fan, from China at start of Corona. I actually went and heated it in the oven like 80 degrees, because it wasn't really certain back then how covid survived on surfaces. 2080Ti was just too expensive to get, and hopefully Nvidias milking days at the top end are over the next gen.Babun wrote:Ninja Cooler rocks, big old school no nonsense body. I've never had anything other than mouse and keyboard for the PC, although I'm considering buying a flightstick for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator.

My babies, if you need any help with fightsticks, let me now. Btw, midnight shopping is my favourite hobby at mindfactory Also, they have mindstar now which is super duper great.

Definitely see the appeal of playing Tekken with something like that, everything is better with correct controller. I played a lot of racing games back in the day, with keyboard I was really good at them. Then got smoked by the first wheel and pedal guy.

Tekken is one of the few fighters on can play on fightpad, keyboard, mixbox, hitbox or gamepad because there're hardly quarter circle motions. If anything a good mechanical keyboard is superior to a gamepad. In 2D fighters, stick users have a huge advantage:

What do you do in Baldur's Gate if you still play it? It's my favourite game of all time, but struggling not to get bored with it when I remember every bit of it.
If BG3 has any of that original BG magic, I'm gonna spill something all over my PC all right.

When you get bored, up the difficulty and do solo's and such, with different classes the gameplay will be almost endlessly different. I've done a lot of challenges, and have few solo LoB + SCS + Ascension no-reload runs through BG1-Dragonspear-BG2-ToB, recorded in Beamdog forums, under histamiini username. When you do something as hard as that, you will have to know and use everything about the game, and I mean everything, and it's pretty fun trial and error. It took about 2000 hours of learning and practicing to first manage that with cleric/mage, and since I've done it with fighter/illusionist, fighter/cleric/mage and sorcerer. Cavalier still eludes that nR, as my favorite class, and I almost beat Melissan with it.Art Morte wrote:@Harmonica

I've about 3000 hours on BG franchise, and I'm not going to even discuss about Divinity Original Sin 3, never mind buying it. And you can forget about Brutus and Cesar, BG3 is the biggest betrayal ever in the history of mankind. Until they fix it and offer RTwP that is.
Btw here's the ending of my first success with that challenge.

Wow, you invested more time there than me in Diablo 2 I won a PVP Championships organized indiablo.de with my Bonemancer DU_Arschgesicht (Assface) and my old Frozen Orb Sorceress DU_Cassandra.
I'm thinking of getting the Starcraft 2 trilogy, it's cheap right now. Is it worth it to get all three or should I get parts only?

I've almost a year break now from BG, might return to it once they release the final 2.6 update and the game is finished, finally. Interestingly I've never played Diablo, probably because I have never enjoyed fast paced action oriented games.Babun wrote:Wow, you invested more time there than me in Diablo 2 I won a PVP Championships organized indiablo.de with my Bonemancer DU_Arschgesicht (Assface) and my old Frozen Orb Sorceress DU_Cassandra.

I've got AMD, Nvidia an Intel shares. Intel always dropped dividends, the most consistent of the bunch. The most I got was with the Nvidia shares, most people sold the shares after the end of the mining boom, I kept mine and bought some more. They took a hit but not significant enough. I don't have much AMD shares compared to the other two but they were acquired before "make AMD great again" so yeah, fat profit
