Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Firenze wrote:watched the new Guy Ritchie and Statham flick 'Wrath of Man' yesterday, had a real fucking neat cast when it was announced, but all of the decent actors are involved for like 5-10 mins at most. It's watchable, but not much more than that. Ritchie cashing in an easy payday I guess. The Gentleman was 10x better.
I saw it
The most normal film i've seen by Ritchie. It seems not made by him. Promising at the beginning but progressively the tense atmosphere turns into more classic action film. The story is interesting but
- Spoiler:
- i knew who the inside man was at the first second i saw him, before the heist crew even mentions having one
I rate B- clearly an easy payday

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
had the most enjoyable second viewing of Jackie Brown last night, much better than i originally thought it was. Tarantino re-ranked:
Tier 1
1. Kill Bill saga
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Once Upon a time in Hollywood
4. Jackie Brown
5. Django Unchained
Tier2
6. Reservoir Dogs
7. Inglorious Basterds
8. Hateful Eight
9. Death Proof
next up should be a Reservoir Dogs rewatch for me to see how it holds up

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Used to think i'm a fan of Tarantino but more so i respect his love for cinema
I watched Jackie Brown a few times, never been able to fully pay attention, can't remember much of the scenes. Maybe now that i'm older it deserves a last chance.
Finally saw Death Proof recently, imo his worse film and planet terror is better. I am a good clientele for car chases in general but there is a limit to the pointless non-sense i can take. The latest film with Charles Manson is upcoming soon on Netflix, i read good things about it.
-Great-
Inglorious Basterds
Kill Bill
-Good-
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Hateful Eight
Django Unchained
-Bad-
Jackie Brown
Death Proof

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
when i originally watched Jackie Brown i expected something Pulp Fiction-esque, but what my dumbass didn't realise is that going against the grain was supposed to be the point. I admire artists who just throw away their successful formula and try to add more to their layer as an artist and storyteller. Jackie Brown is basically the antithesis of Pulp Fiction.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
So i saw Once upon a time in Hollywood and i expected something completely different. If i add it to my previous rankings it would be at the bottom. The film is saved by interesting scenery and good actors. A duo of DiCaprio and Brad Pitt will always deliver.
Seems like a self-parody by Tarantino, long scenes, a few anecdotal events and also a reflection on stardom, overall the result is quite boring. He gives the fans their dose of violence at the end, it's just absurd, not even a good scene by his standards.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I watched Akira the other day. Finally realised why it is regarded as a masterpiece in any medium.
For something which is made in 1988 it's absolutely breathtaking. They must have spent days animating just a 5 minute scene.
Everything about it is perfect from minute 1 till the ending. The story, the themes, the soundtrack, the characters. Had me thinking about it for days
I really don't want this to be made into live-action. It's probably better the way it is now.
It's a 10/10

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
so i always knew Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 was a downstep after the first brilliant film... but god, i didn't realise how bad it actually is. Literally leaves behind eveyrthing that made the first film so awesome, and settles for cheap low grade romantic drama with terrible terrible inconsistent writing. Straight up filler for the trilogy. I remember the 3rd being better, will rewatch it too to confirm

A friend recommended to me the film Mother! damn that was a painful 2 hours
He works in cinema so i take his suggestions seriously, this one was too much
Bad comedies aside it's probably the worst film i've ever seen

No Time To Die 4/10
Terrible movie, i enjoyed Spectre more than this. Ultimately, a terrible sunset for Daniel Craig's Bond, and unfortunately not looking forward to the next Bond with how they set up this one.

Dune is intriguing way more because of its expansive world building and the beautiful spectacle rather than equally great storytelling as with Villeneuve's previous works.
Hard to give a final assessment because we NEED part two!

This is heresy. Both the original and the second one are great. First one is better though, you're right there

i can't hate because of course each person likes what they like, but if you haven't seen them in over a decade... rewatch them again... one after the other
Spider-Man 1 feels like a comic book film, sooo good. Perfect for its time.
Spider-Man 2 as a follow up and in comparison.. not so much, quite bad the more i think about it

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I recall the 2 is better. Netflix has only the first one, i hate when they do this
Not sure why i had the idea to watch The Ring probably it's the halloween season so it was in my suggestions because i never watch such films usually. Anyways i was positively surprised, the cinematography is what makes this film truly interesting rather than its somewhat poor scenario.

I watched all 3 recently and what i realised was that SM3 is actually fantastic up till the final act. The first 2 are so so good and it probably has the best action out of all 3 too.
SM1 n 2 are quite close to each other. Both tier 1.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
agreed on SM3... the start is awesome and it carries over into the middle act mostly, it recaptures some of the form of SM1 which was left out in SM2... but ultimately 3 tries to bite off way more than it can possibly chew with the many antagonists and storylines.

The Ring has its place in 2000 horror canon... It's a beautiful striking picture that will leave its mark for sure

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
I really enjoyed it, although I agree with the general criticism that it lacked a thorough driving plot through it. It's essentially all exposition. I haven't read the books though.
Gonna be one of those we have to take the opinion as a trilogy as a whole imo. Unfortunate that it doesn't stand on its own the way the LotR movies do...however, very few movies strike the balance of being a great singular movie as well as a cohesive trilogy. Or at least, they don't do that as well as LotR.
I'll see what I think after ruminating for a couple days though. Glad part two has been greenlit

Dune was amazing, best cinema experience in like 2 years, can't wait to see part 2 and even watch this one again.
