Re: Ze German Thread
The situation is ridiculious. Bierhoff tried to make Özil into the scapegoat for the failure, it backfired at him so he had to "excuse" himself. DFB cannot take the shitstorm anymore so they want to force Özil to give a statement. Why couldn't they bother with it before? And how are players supposed to believe and give 100% for a coach who is so fickle?
Out with Bierhoff, Löw, Özil and the DFB president! Change is needed..

Re: Ze German Thread
I don’t get why Özil is singled out when Gündogan was also photographed with Erdogan.
It all seems so fake, really embarrassing stuff.

Re: Ze German Thread
Neither Özil nor Gündogan have done anything wrong. There are dozens of photos of Merkel and Steinmeier meeting and shaking hands with Erdogan.
We don't ask them to explain themselves either. And they are our actual political representatives, suddenly the ethical bar for some football players with Turkish family background is higher?
These football players now are expected to be the ones to draw lines based on political developments in Turkey, when our politicians haven't?
Or is it really about questioning those players' 'loyalty' for meeting a foregn president? Then it's even more despicable. If, say, Mario Gomez met the Spanish president and they shook hands and took a photo, would anyone question Gomez' loyalty?
This has been laughable back then when it happened, and it was in MAY. In *bleep* MAY. Erdogan met PL players with Turkish background and they took a photo. Wow, what a huge deal.
To now make this the main topic, after THAT world cup performance by the whole team, is just unbelievable, laughable, disgusting, inacceptable.
Bierhoff singling out Özil? Grindel doubling down demanding that Özil make a public statement? WHAT THE HELL? What for? Why? As if we don't have any other problems.
And all that in the current political climate.
Bierhoff out. Grindel out. They have to go. Incompetent, cowardly and despicable arseholes. Racists. Xenophobes. Shame on them. I feel sick.

the part where they shake hands might not be the problem. the problem could be calling him my president.

Özil wasn't the one with the "My President" post. That was Gündogan. Özil never posted anything in Tweeter concerning Erdogan.

Re: Ze German Thread
I can't agree with saying they haven't done anything wrong but the behaviour from the DFB has been a complete disgrace. They should absolutely be sacked or forced out or whatever.
They've played it down initially. Now, afterwards, they double down on him to distract from their own failure? It's disgusting. These people need to go. All of them.

Re: Ze German Thread
Yeah I feel they have done something wrong, but I think it's not any worse than dodging taxes, or saying something homophobic, or whatever, which footballers do all the time.
I feel like this has clear racist undertones, and it's sickening.
The "my president" part was incredibly stupid though, because it gave unsolicited credibility to a wannabe-dictator. Then again, as if Erdogan needs Gündogan to rule Turkey.
Still though, as German citizens, they should've known better. But that utterly pales next to the disgusting shit show of Bierhoff and Grindel. They need out NOW.

Media & some functionaries going after Özil and Gündogan like rabid badgers, while the players with German-sounding names can do whatever the eff they want.

Özil belatedly gives a statement about all this:
Now we wait for the thrilling conclusion.

Hopefully he retires for good, this nonsense has been going on for too long and it will continue if he doesn‘t.

Re: Ze German Thread
Should be noted that he didn't actually say he was retiring, just that he refuses to play under current conditions. Whether those conditions change by the time his career is up, though, is another matter.

Ozil is spot on. We have similar issues in the US... but ours comes from our president who is an unmitigated disaster of a human being.

Re: Ze German Thread
Özil has always been a good advocate for dual citizens, a guy who wanted to make the country he was born and raised in proud, while also respecting his Turkish side, getting treated like a damn dog after one mistake after years of success. Shame on these people.

french first, then dual citizen... and then finally had to give up the french side due to crazy taxes (that i would never benefit from since I live in the US).
