Well nobody if they leave the domestic leagues, but I dont think they are quite as willing to throw away the money they get from those as you seem to be.
There are no domestic leagues without these teams. Barça and Madrid have been negotiating their individual broadcasting deals for years anyway. I'm sure broadcasters will jump on whatever format the ESL comes up with. They'll probably start their own streaming service as well.
They have this thing ironed out.
So are they leaving the domestic leagues willingly or the FA's need them so much they will continue in them unpunished according to you?

I think the ideal situation for them is to stay in the league until the ESL is properly sorted out. But I don't think the threat of an immediate ban is enough to deter them, they were propably expecting it.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
But for that inclusion, it will not be free. Even if the leagues are "nothing" without these big clubs, I dont think the FA's bend the knee without a fight here.
The FA and UEFA are only interested in their own pockets, so I dont think they will stand ideally by while these cowboy big teams set all the rules.
Regardless, I can only speak about what I hope, not what it is. I hope somehow these pathetic clubs end up on the losing side here despite my dislike for their opponents.

There are so many problems with this though. Let's say we stay in Serie A, how is Serie A going to function when Juve, Inter, and Milan just got a 300m bonus plus whatever yearly revenue form the ESL that will surely be more than the CL/EL.
At which point is it pointless to play Juve-Verona?
In most seasons it becomes 1,2,3 the three big teams and in practice a separate league for the other 17. We will surely hear "Roma won the league this year" because they placed 4th after the super league clubs.

Ban players of their national teams is the best they can do
Which is equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot
Exactly.
Also, if the figures that are circulating are accurate, we can expect a significant salary bump for players. I'd bet most of them would take an x3 salary increase over a world cup appearance.
There is no way this happenz, legally they cannot ban players from NT, the court of arbitration of sport will intervene if such a decision is made and will bounce UEFA back to whatever hell hole they came from

Re: The European Super League Megathread
It'll also increase brand exposure and commercial appeal around the world. Imagine an all star weekend with Messi and Ronaldo on the same team? They can even do attribute drills during the all star weekend to prop up individual players' brands. Imagine Mbappe winning a 100M or 200M race against Davies and Adama. Nike can brand him as the fastest player the world. They can even do a subscription service for the ESL specifically. Big teams facing against each other will always draw big numbers around the world, so they'll continually make bank from TV deals. It would be the football version of the NBA. Perez is a genius.
In terms of the exclusivity problem, well they can create their own version of Europa League where the top teams there can get promoted to the ESL.
Of course doing all of this would ruin the essence of football and completely Americanize it, but it makes sense from a business perspective. The fans are going to keep watching amidst the initial outrage. Hell TV ratings for this competition will probably be even higher than the CL.

Regarding the plans to introduce a European Super League, says Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of FC Bayern: “FC Bayern did not participate in the planning of a Super League. We are convinced that the current statics in football guarantee a serious basis. FC Bayern welcomes the reforms of the Champions League because we believe that they are the right step for the development of European football. The modified preliminary round will contribute to more tension and emotionality in the competition. "

This makes no sense lol, no American Sport would do this. They're much smarter than that.
This is way worse than anything an American Sport has ever done.
The whole concept of closed leagues with no relegation/promotion or qualifiers come from American sports.
Just look up how Glazers and Kroenke said that the whole concept of teams getting relegated from PL is "crazy"

Yeah not sure I agree with Mole there, that's literally what American sports are, closed leagues that are owned and operated by the owners of the teams themselves. Sure they have strict rules, salary caps etc..but the ESL will do the same once the league is up and running.

Mole doesn't agree because he's an NBA fan and it doesn't fit his narrative obvi

Sure... its still the best sport. We're way to deep into it to just walk away, no other game comes close to footy.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
fans have very little say because they know most fans will watch regardless. the athletes, the big stars are the ones who should have more pull in this; but unlike the nba, football stars have never been known to pull collectively on anything, they barely know the kind of power they have , and management knows this. they know stars will just 'shut up and dribble'
