Re: The European Super League Megathread
Laporta: “Super league abandoned? No, far from it. We are there with Juventus, Madrid and waiting for the other teams. The English clubs and German clubs are waiting to see if it will be a new format of competition or an improved Champions League."
Laporta: “We are still involved with the Super League. We are winning in each of the judicial proceedings that have been initiated, after having won the one’s that were resolved. We are now expecting a judgement from the European court by the end of this year."

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Florentino Perez:

Our beloved sport is ill, losing global leadership. The young people are increasingly less interested, a trend to revert before it is too late.
“The new generations prefer other spectacles, like the online platforms or video games. They are asking for a quality product that football does not provide, because the current competitions do not attract them… even the final phases.
“With maximum respect to the national leagues, the big European leagues should offer matches throughout the year, matches that bring the young people back.
“The Super League would not be a closed competition. The president of the ECA said that Madrid was afraid of the competition. It would still be necessary to remind him who Real Madrid is.
“UEFA is increasing the number of games between irrelevant teams. With that, it will only accelerate the decadence of European football. According to Forbes, Madrid is the 13th most valuable club in the world and before we were fifth. There are only three football clubs in that ranking. The trend is inarguable. They must be doing something very well in the United States and very badly in the old Europe.
“La Liga has lost subscribers on TV and their strategy is to charge more to the few who are left. They have turned a product that should be popular into a luxury product.
“We’ve just won the 14th Champions League and we are already thinking about the 15th. We believe in work and in the spirit of permanent improvement to achieve the impossible.
“Nadal and Djokovic have played against 59 times, is this boring? Real Madrid and Liverpool have only met nine times in 67 years. What’s the point of depriving fans of these matches?”

ehhh any truth to this statistically? is CL viewership down? everyone I know still view it as peak football and get excited for midweek games

It could be just my surroundings, but I've noticed that young people (older kids to teenagers) are less interested in sports than we were. I don't think a superleague would fix that though as the issue seems to be the plethora of entertainment options that are available to them.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
I don't think anyone was against the best squaring off against each other more often. People were just against the top 20 clubs or so turning elite football into a closed entry club.
By all means reform the CL in a way that's more entertaining but still fair.

JUST IN: Promoters of the European Super League have won their appeal — meaning Super League clubs can't be punished by UEFA or FIFA. @JacobsBen #FCB
