`Caceres joins Sevilla

Sevilla FC have begun preparations for the 2011/12 campaign by agreeing a reported €3m deal with FC Barcelona to make defender Martín Cáceres's loan move a permanent one.

With the 2010 FIFA World Cup semi-finalist in their squad, Sevilla will compete in next term's UEFA Europa League play-off round following a fifth-place Liga finish.

OFFICIAL: Pedro to stay at Barça until 2016

FC Barcelona has announced an agreement with Pedro Rodríguez for him to stay at the Club for one more season, until June 30, 2016. His buy-out clause has been increased from 90 to 150 million euros.

He will sign on Thursday at around 11.30. After that, he will be appearing for photographs outside the FC Barcelona offices.

45 goals in two seasons

Pedro Rodríguez joined the Club in the summer of 2004 and played for the Youth A and Barça B teams for four seasons before making the leap to the first team in the 2009/10 season, when he appeared in 52 games. That season, Pedro scored 23 goals in all competitions, and maintained similar form in 2010/11, netting a further 22 times.

It was Frank Rijkaard who handed him a debut in 2007/08 and in 2008/09 he divided his time between Guardiola and Luis Enrique’s teams. Since his promotion to the first team, Pedro has shown just what a decisive striker he can be for FC Barcelona. He can play either on the right or the left and is a crucial component of the team’s pressure game.

Alliance of Telefonica and FC Barcelona in science and technology

Telefonica and FC Barcelona will present on Wednesday at a press conference the contents of the alliance in the world pioneer in turning the club's first sports club in innovation, applied science and technology in football.

The agreement will improve the experience of fans at Camp Nou and the incorporation of advanced digital tools. The agreement of cooperation will be signed by FC Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell, the CEO of Telefonica in Catalonia Kim Faura, director of Telefonica R & D center in Barcelona, Pablo Rodriguez, and the manager responsible for new technologies Club, Zach Lee, in a ceremony to be held on Wednesday 6 July at Torre Telefónica headquarters Telefonica in Barcelona.

===================================

Barça and Telefónica I+D: technological excellence for the Camp Nou

Barça and Telefónica I+D have formed an alliance by signing a pioneering agreement on a global scale that will improve fans’ experiences in the stadium and apply science and technology to the sports world.

World leaders in social networksNo other club in the world has as many followers. FC Barcelona is the world leader on social networks, with almost 18 million Facebook fans and more than 2.5 million Twitter followers (on its three official accounts, @fcbarcelona_cat, @fcbarcelona_es and @fcbarcelona. This project will therefore complement and expand the experience of the ‘Barça sentiment’, allowing all fans and followers to tell the world what is happening in the stadium in real time.

FC Barcelona and Telefónica I+D’s agreement means the Camp Nou will be used as the testing ground for new and innovative technologies. As explained by president Sandro Rosell, "Barça seeks excellence. Sporting excellence and also excellence in new technologies”. Rosell signed today’s agreement along with the director general of Telefónica in Catalonia, Kim Faura, the director of Telefónica’s R+D centre in Barcelona, Pablo Rodríguez, and Barça’s director of new technologies, Dídac Lee, at Torre Telefónica, the telecommunications company’s headquarters in Catalonia.

Global pioneering agreement

The alliance will be implemented over three years in two main areas of collaboration: the incorporation of digital instruments to improve fans’ experiences in the Camp Nou and the application of science to the sports world. The former is based on social networks being increasingly present among viewers of Barcelona matches. For example, for the final at Wembley, more than 6,000 Twitter messages were sent a second and Barça received more than a million mentions around the world. This agreement, “the first in the world” according to Dídac Lee, will make FC Barcelona’s stadium the first venue to be used to test and improve new wireless and networked technologies to improve telephone coverage and provide the finest access for the use of social networks.

The latter involves the creation of a Doctorate in Science and Sport to study how scientific methods can be applied to improving performances in competitions in all sports.

La Masía of innovation

This agreement will not cost the club anything. A team of 20 researchers will work on implementing the agreement and the creation of the Doctorate in the company’s Barcelona centre. Telefónica invests an annual figure of 4,814 million euros in technological innovation, and is one of the European multinationals that spends the most on R+D. Telefónica’s Barcelona centre has set new standards that Rosell compares to his club’s own training centre when he says "the best Masía for innovation is in Barcelona and it is Telefónica I + D".

Ex-Barca: Sylvinho retires from football
Former Barca player Sylvinho confirmed on the website of FC Barcelona that he shall hang up his boots after 15 years amongst professional football’s elite. He expressed his gratitude to FC Barcelona on the official site.

Sylvinho Mendes, 37, wanted to thank both the Barca fans as well as the technical and coaching staff, and all employees of the Club for the good treatment he received during his stay at FC Barcelona, which he described as his “best sporting stage.”

Sylvinho, who also played for Corinthians, Arsenal, Celta Vigo and Manchester City, has said on the club’s website: “Above all, the club will always be in my heart and I thank you all for the opportunity I have had. I have enjoyed and achieved so many successes. ”

In summer 2004, Sylvinho joined the club under Frank Rijkaard. With the Dutchman, he won two league titles, one hampions League and two Super Cups in Spain. In his last season as a blaugrana (2008/09), with Pep Guardiola, Sylvinho and the rest of the team delivered the prestigious triplet, a rare sporting achievement.

During his time with Barca, he played 128 games and scored three goals. He alternated the left side with Gio van Bronckhorst, first, and Éric Abidal later. One of his last matches was the final in Rome, where he was in the starting lineup and played with admirable tenacity.

Every Cule will have fond memories of Sylvinho in the blue and red. His splendid goals and his exemplary attitude in the dressing room made him a very popular player. His reaction when Iniesta scored against Chelsea in the CL semi finals along with his last but greatest match as a Barca player – the CL finals against Manchester United in 2008-09 and his tears of joy at the end were some of the most memorable moments of that great season. totalBarca wishes him all the best for the future! Gràcies, Sylvinho!

There are no pre-season friendlies with Guardiola

On Monday the pre-season begins with five friendly matches, or to be more accurate, in the words of Gaurdiola, with five non-official matches. Pep Guardiola has shown that he wants to win every match.

So far, Guardiola’s Barça have played 16 non-official pre-season games and the team have won 12, drawn 3 and have lost only 1, clearly showing the competitive spirit they take into these games..

2008-09: 6 games and 6 wins

Barça coach Pep Guardiola opened his account in Scotland with a 6-0 win against Hibernian. The first game against top level opposition was against Fiorentina in Italy and Barça won 3-1, not with any great flair, but playing very seriously..

The best example of the competitive spirit that Guardiola transmits to his players is the Gamper of that year when Barça were losing 1-0 against Boca Juniors and ended up winning an epic match, with goals from Carles Puyol and Samuel Eto'o, in injury time.

2009/10: Lots of reserves and the only defeat

Guardiola’s second season began with lots of reserve players in the pre-season squad in St. Andrews. Although most of the players were from the reserves, Barça didn’t lose, not event against Tottenham (1-1), who had started their pre-season much earlier. The players put together 3 wins and 2 draws until between the 2 legs of the Spanish Super Cup, they came up against Manchester City in the Gamper. That day, the team lost the only non-official pre-season match with Guardiola as coach (1-0).

2010/11: fewer games following the World Cup

The pre-season last year was atypical, with only 4 preparation matches, and almost inexistent for the World Cup players. However, Guardiola’s Barça didn’t drop their level of commitment and carried on winning, with the exception of the Gamper against AC Milan where they drew (1-1).

Visits to the Barça Museum increased by 27% during the 2010/11 season

With nearly one and a half million visitors and a 66% increase in turnover, the FC Barcelona Museum closed the season with a more than satisfactory balance. The new format, new content, and club achievements, are the fonts of this success.

Absolute and historical record. This is the conclusion of the season’s balance of the FC Barcelona Museum that during 2010/2011 received a total of 1,492,867 visits. The museum attendance has increased by 27% over the previous year, an increase that translates into 320,846 visitors more than during 2009/10, when 1,172.021 people turned up. The increasing numbers have led to an increase in turnover of 66%.

The vice president of the social area, Jordi Cardoner, valued as "very positive" the results obtained "by a significant space that helps in the understanding of why Barça is more than a club".

Identity and Barça achievements as the keys to success

"The factor of sporting excellence of our team is indisputable and FC Barcelona is a magnet at national and international level. Aside from the sports results, the greatness of our club and social values that we have been able to transmit around the world have been vital". These are, according to Jordi Cardoner, the key factors in the success of visits to the Camp Nou Experience.

Camp Nou, an essential stop

Since its inauguration, the Camp Nou Experience has been a total success, and visiting the FC Barcelona stadium has become an almost indispensable stop for tourist buses in the city. Inclusion of the visit in the of tour operators programs means that the summer months are the busiest. Last August, with 214,526 visits, was the period of greatest affluence. On the other hand, there has not been a month where the visits have dropped below 54,000.

Increased local visits

Although the bulk of visitors to the museum are foreigners, renovation and modernization of the facilities have attracted the interest of the local public. The increase in visitors from this sector is very satisfying for the Club, which expects this trend to continue during the current year and will remember that this was the best season in Barça’s history.

The museum, a living installation

Satisfaction with the results obtained is undeniable but it is accompanied by the desire to continue working to maintain them and even improve them. "The club understands that the Barça Museum should be a living museum that can be fed from a source which today is priceless, such as objects donated by members and fans," said Cardoner.

The creation of a new space for the 16 professional titles won in 2010/2011, the opening of a permanent exhibition of the Foundation and the updating of multimedia content are some of the future initiatives to be undertaken by the Barcelona Museum.

FC Barcelona have reached an agreement to loan Henrique Adriano Buss to Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras for one season. The Brazilian club assumes 100% of the rights to the player.

FC Barcelona and Palmeiras have agreed that the centre back will play in the Brazilian league for the 2011/12 season after spending the last three seasons on loan.

Henrique signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2008, but never got to make his official debut for the club, instead being sent out on loan to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, where he played 30 games.

He then went from the Bundesliga to the Spanish Liga, where he spent two seasons on loan at Racing Santander, where he quickly won a place in the first team and made 26 appearance in the 2009/10 season and 35 in the 2010/11 season.

European champions back at work

The Barça squad met up again on Monday morning after the summer holiday. Sixteen players took the different medical tests.

The Liga and European champions got the 2011/12 season off to a start this morning with the traditional medical examinations at the Ciutat Esportiva and after that in the Camp Nou medical centre, where they did different exercises and were also had their weight and height checked.

Carles Puyol, who is still recovering from injury, and Bojan, who has been allowed some time to sort out his future, were excused from the session, and obviously the five player that have been playing at the Copa America (Messi, Mascherano, Milito, Alves and Adriano) were also away.

Good atmosphere

The players were wearing the new yellow change strip, and there were smiles all round as they got together for the first time in weeks. They were divided into four different groups for the Camp Nou tests. There were two groups of five (Valdés, Pinto, Piqué, Iniesta and Xavi, in one group and Sergio, Villa, Pedro, Keita and Abidal in the other) and two groups of three (Jeffren, Maxwell and Afellay, plus Thiago, Fontàs and Jonathan dos Santos).

First training this evening

Barça have their first training session this Monday evening at 19.00 in the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Only the first quarter of an hour will be open to the media.

Puyol to work on muscles all week

This Monday morning the doctors evaluated the condition of Carles Puyol following an operation on his left knee last June. The injury is healing well and within the predicted time schedule. This week he will be working on building up muscle strength.

Carles Puyol ended last season with knee trouble and underwent arthroscopy to remove loose cartilage from his femoral trochlea. He was expected to take between 2 and 3 months to recover.

The captain has been working hard all summer, combining well earned holiday with intense recuperation sessions.

First training session with 15 players

The FC Barcelona first team was back at training today, 51 days after the final at Wembley. There were 15 players involved in the first session of the season.

The medical revisions out of the way, the FC Barcelona players grouped at the Ciutat Esportiva de Sant Joan Despí. The 14 first team players were joined by Jonathan Dos Santos of Barça B. Xavi, Puyol, Bojan and the South Americans were the only players missing.

Xavi on his own

Carles Puyol, who underwent an operation on June 1, will be concentrating on recovery work this week by recommendation of doctor Ricard Pruna. Xavi also did individual work and didn’t appear on the field. Bojan had special permission not to be present, while Milito, Mascherano, Messi, Adriano and Alves are away at the Copa America, although both of their respective teams were knocked out this weekend. This was the first training session for Fontàs and Thiago as fully fledged first team members.

Unzué back

There were also changes in the coaching staff. Juan Carlos Unzué, who was goalkeepers coach from 2003 to 2010 and manager of Numancia last season, has returned to the former job. His place was taken by Carles Busquets while he was away, who has now gone back to coaching the Barça B keepers.

Two sessions on Tuesday

The first team will train twice on Tuesday, first at 9.30 and second at 19.00. After the morning session, Josep Guardiola will be giving his first press conference of the 2011/12 season.

Great News Smile hope he gets a call for US tour Smile

Muniesa, in the last stage of recovery

Marc Muniesa and Martin Montoya will not take part in the U-20 World Cup in Colombia owing to injury. For Muniesa, the positive news is that he is in the final stage of recovery from his hamstring troubles.

“I am well, in the last stage of rehabilitation, and I have already begun training with the group,” said Marc Muniesa, speaking to Barça TV and the Club’s official site. He also noted that he is recovering little by little, but hopes to return to the dynamics of full training as soon as possible. His coach, Eusebio Sacristan, has also recognized that the central defender “is improving, but not yet in the condition to participate fully with the group.”

Muniesa picked up a hamstring injury in early June in an Under-19 match against England, and has had to take five or six weeks off. Now, he is facing the final stretch of recovery but is not yet ready for the U-20 World Cup. “A U-20 World Cup is very important and it’s an opportunity to show many things, but you have to think positively and give everything at Barça,” Muniesa assured.

Barcelona’s Carles Planas has been called as a replacement for Muniesa on the Spain U-20 list, while Martin Montoya, injured a few days ago, will not be able to take part in the competition either. Celta de Vigo’s Hugo Mallo replaces Montoya in the team.

On the current squad of Barça B, Marc Muniesa has recognized that the new players, both the new signings as well as the players promoted from Juvenil A, are integrating very well in the dressing room. “They are adapting well and we are forming a very good group. As for the Juvenil A players, I knew them from before and each one of them is one more for the team,” he declared.

OFFICIAL: Barça sign Alexis Sánchez

FC Barcelona and Udinese have reached an agreement on the transfer of Alexis Sánchez. The deal is for 5 years. The cost of the transfer is 26 million with variable cost of 11.5 million.

Bartomeu: "The variables depend on trophies won by the team, minutes played by Alexis, and Barcelona qualifying for 1/8 finals CL."

The 22 year old Chilean player is coming to Barça from the Italian club Udinese, where he’s played for the last three seasons. Last season he was voted best player in Serie A, after scoring 12 goals in 31 games.

This summer (of 2011) he’s been playing in the Copa America for his country’s national team, who were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Venezuela. Alexis played a total of four games in which he scored 1 goal and where he was chosen MVP in two of the matches.

Dazzled in Italy

After his debut in the 2008/09 season with Udinese, where he played 95 games, the last two seasons have been the most prolific in terms of his play and goals. Last season he scored 12 goals, 4 of them in the same game, and has been sought by the best teams in the world. However, he has been strongly committed to playing for Barça.
