Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Young can play as an attacking midfielder and on the flank if need be. For £3,000,000, this is a great bargain.

not really sure about the park chu young signing. i think he's a decent player but the fact that he has to serve mandatory military service in 2 years is sort of unsettling

The club must have a way around that otherwise they would not have bothered signing him.

"It is official, I held talks with Lucho on Friday night and I can confirm that he will remain with us this season," Labrune told L'Equipe.
There goes one potential playmaker signing.

If you're referring to Park Chu Young, he's already been introduced to the players and is undergoing a medical at Londen Colny right now.

what kinda player is he? mind you Monaco know their strikers. Henry, Trezeguet, Adebayor... so hopefully Park is following that trend. On the bright side he will sell a lot of shirts ?

@YoungGuns: Arsenal have confirmed to the BBC they will be paying £3m rising to £5m for Park Chu-Young.
@YoungGuns: Chu-Young is excellent business for Arsenal. Technically excellent, intelligent, two footed, versatile, hard working. £3m a snip.

Ever watched him play a game?
Judging a player on stats alone is superficial. Adebayor had a very poor scoring record for Monaco but even he manages a 30 goal season and was sold on for £25,000,000.
Henry's scoring record was poor before he came to us. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how that one turned out.
Point is, stats don't tell the whole story.

That means that this kid is a risk, why are you for tis buy, I mean if we were a big club we would by proven talent, not some young unproven kid because there is a chance that this "winder kid" could turn out to be a bendtner or an henry, so why the risk?GoonerJay29 wrote:6unner wrote:He scored 35 goals in 95 games.

The fact you're calling him a young and unproven player shows how little you actually know of the player.
He's 26, has several caps for South Korea and captains them. He has done well for a poor Monaco side since he joined them in 2008.
I don't know much about him specifically, but the main reason I'm for this buy is because he's only costing £2.6mil with add-ons. There's virtually no risk involved in this signing; if he plays well he's a bargain, if he doesn't then oh well.
Plus, consider the fact he's replacing Bendtner. Not Nasri or Fabregas. Bendtner. He's going to be a squad player in an area we need depth. What's wrong with that?
"We're a big club so we should aim higher" is the argument I keep seeing but people need to stop and think for a moment; there's not long left in the transfer window. Any striker worth more than £10,000,000 aren't going to be sold at this stage without us paying more than we should. A big name striker is not going to happen.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
you are right stats dont mean everything.
Neither does comparing Monacco now to times right after Wenger left there in there in the early 90s.
Monacco is a league 2 team, Park is a 26 year old striker that has never had as much as a sniff for a top team in any league.
Is this really the quality that AFC should be looking to get to challenge for major honors.

You missed the point. You're judging Park simply for the fact he's not a big name who didn't cost much. I was using Henry as an example of a player who wasn't much of a big name himself but still turned out a great player, likewise Adebayor.
Monacco is a league 2 team, Park is a 26 year old striker that has never had as much as a sniff for a top team in any league.
Completely irrelevant since Park has never played a Ligue 2 game.
Out of curisioty, do you want us to sign Gary Cahill?
Is this really the quality that AFC should be looking to get to challenge for major honors.
What is so hard to understand about him being a depth player?
Ultimately, you have to give the player time to show us what he can before dismissing him as a poor signing not of Arsenal's high standards.

Well if we do we do if we don't we don't. So far this year I think that our defense is actually the strongest area of the pitch and I do not think that we should break up the pairing of TV and Kos. I think that they look to be working into the best paring in the league.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
For depth we can use Ignaqsi, and get squalliccci away for our 1st team, and then we have Johan and Ignasi as back-ups. I had hoped we would bring in a good player, not some MORE risks after losing two of our best five players.GoonerJay29 wrote:Is this really the quality that AFC should be looking to get to challenge for major honors.
