The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
How terrific would it be if Arsenal allowed Vermaelen to move on for a respectable fee, then got a young homegrown CB and acquired William Carvalho (DM/CB combo) without any more fuss. Oh well.
Mirror says Douglas Costa & Mauricio Isla are on the radar.

Jackson Martinez's price tag drops, says Express.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I'd be happy to sign Jackson for £16m, we just need a Carvalho price drop too then..
Shame, we could go Portuguese on all three positions if Eric Dier were home grown; Jackson, Carvalho, Dier.
The only way I see us signing a playmaker is if we sell Santi to Atletico, we reportedly told them his price is £15m.
I'm firmly against that.

Eric Dier should be homegrown since he represents England at international level.

I could be wrong, but as I understand it, the homegrown rule is solely based around the time a player has spent playing in an FA club and not about nationality and Dier has only spent one year in England, at Everton.
- Spoiler:
- "All 20 Clubs must include eight Home Grown players out of a squad of 25 for that Premier League season.
A Home Grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
Clubs are able to supplement their squads with unlimited additional players under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences.
Changes to the squad list of 25 may be made during the period of a transfer window. So Clubs must declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January."

Looks like City have wrapped up Mangala signing.
With Kompany, Demichelis, Rekik (who said he'd only want to stay if City didn't sign Lescott's replacement, which they have) then maybe Nastasic could be the one who's moved on.

I keep reading this Nastasic stuff and how it will be brilliant for us, but nobody is giving a single plausible reason as to why Citeh will sell to us in the first place.
We have already established that we are the only club who is willing to sell to our rivals, without shitting our pants about strengthening them

Tuttosport claim Milan have offered Mario Balotelli to Arsenal for €10million + Joel Campbell.
Only way I'd be on board is if Wenger decides we don't have room for Campbell anyway which could still be the case. But with the way he's spoken, he really likes the type of player Joel is and he has a good attitude about fighting for his place.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If reports are to be believed then, Balotelli's price is plummeting.
Why? Are Milan so desperate for cash, any cash? (If so, why not offer up SES to the highest bidder--that'll bring in significantly more.) Does Inzaghi not like Balo?

According to Madrid-based journalist (@JLSanchez78), Sami Khedira has told Arsenal he wants £135kpw and if they refuse he'll stay at Madrid and leave on a free next year.

Ballsbag here to calm our fears
to say 'Khedira not wanted by Wenger' is a bit questionable though right? Since by all accounts you've been negotiating over wages lol.
Not wanted beyond a certain price, that's more like it.
Everytime I read something by that Balague I have the feeling he is a terrible jounalist, am I wrong there?

Arsene will fully assess Joel in pre season. If he impresses Arsene and he thinks that Joel is definitely good enough to break in the team then he will stay. Otherwise loan for another season or sold.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I Would take Balo if price was 15M max and no better option available[which seems the case]
we know he is inconsistent and cant perform week in week out
but as long as we aren't over-reliant on him for goal scoring then we would be fine
Giroud-Poldi-Cazorla can take a care of bottom half teams we need Balo/Theo/Alexis to turn up and influence big games

Don't know who this guy Tony Leen is outside of his twitter bio, but ...
Tony Leen @tonyleen · 27m
Interesting insight from Portuguese contacts tonite re Carvalho to Arsenal: I'm told clubs are 10m apart on valuation and AFC won't budge.
Tony Leen @tonyleen · 3m
Source close to Sporting believe they should take Arsenal offer of 24m. Lisbon club holding out for 34m. Deal won't happen at that price.

Another wave of Calum Chambers stuff today/tonight.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2706140/Calum-Chambers-closing-12m-Arsenal-Southampton-look-set-lose-team-star.html
True or not, this Southampton squad is getting taken apart. Or mostly just shipped over to Anfield.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Neither do I. I'm still of the "wait and see" opinion on Jenkinson, and of course Bellerin too. I don't think a Debuchy back-up is needed at all.
But then Wenger would be the one calling the shots, weighing pros and cons on his spreadsheet full of stats like "preferential vision."
If there's any truth to it, it could mean that Wenger is being ruthless, and sees Jenkinson as superfluous, maybe Bellerin too (or envisions his future back higher up on the wing).

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Apparently his medical is already done according to some guy(most likely some Internet Bullshit Artist) who broke the news first.
Also this is interesting
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11060140.Saints_youngsters_lauded/
If Arsene can convert him to CB, then sure great business. But that's a gamble itself.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Seen some say he could be converted to a defensive midfielder if we sign him.
Koeman has said it's just rumours, though, apparently. Though he also said that no more players would leave before the Lovren deal, and Chambers didn't play against Bouremouth today due to "illness" (Lovren also missed the game because of "illness").
