Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I like Jagielka. He would definitley give us another dimension, defensively and offensively, from set pieces.

^ Everton wont sell cheap would atleast demand 20 mil and he is already 29.There are better and younger CB's for less IMO.Also he cant pass to save his life would he fit into Arsenal style of play?
U would be better of with Cahill if u are going towards a english CB.Atleast he younger and will be cheaper.

I dont think Wenger is even thinking about Cahill, most likely he will go for a French player or from the Dutch league to search for a CB.

So Apparently Melo is going on loan to GS , imo wenger should take this chance cause we need Melo this season only
It's like a win win situation , we should send frimpong on loan to gain some Ex and bring Melo on loan

Rumours in Turkey that Eboue has agreed personal terms ahead of move to Galatasaray.

It would be sad to see such a legend leave. I do understand though, he's only bench here.
We'd need an RB backup then.

I don't thnk Eboué is leaving, personally. I don't want him to leave, either. He's a handy player to have around because of his versitility and you'd be hard pressed to find a better backup right back anywhere else. He's a decent player with experience.
If he goes, we won't sign a backup right back. That role will go to Carl Jenkinson.

I aggree...he does his job without a fuss which is to provide cover, ever since Wenger tried to convert him as a right mid he has been awful.

Eboue left out of squad for the game vs Cologne apparently

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Eboué was injured before the Asia tour. Might still be lacking fitness.
Fabregas isn't going either, apparently. Rumour is that Arsenal and Barcelona have hit a bit of a stand still in negotiations. Barcelona offered €37,500,000 plus performance based add-ons, but Arsenal want €45,000,000 up front. No add-ons and no player swaps. Just cash.
That's according to this, anyway: http://www.emirates247.com/sports/football/fabregas-talks-in-london-end-in-a-stalemate-2011-07-22-1.409115

We need a back-up right back?
Wenger rates Carl Jenkinson very highly and in pre-season he has rotated with Sagna.
I like the look of Jenkinson too, tall, strong, quick, a good tackler and good in the air.
He needs to grow technically and adapt to our style of play but he is young.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Wenger's earlier comments suggests Eboué is not close to any move:
“Alumina has been contacted by a few clubs, Bendtner as well.”
If Eboué was actually close to moving, Wenger would have mentioned his name along with Almunia's and Bendtner's.
Now it could still be that the club is negotiating with other clubs, but I really don't see why Wenger would sell Eboué at this point.

Thats good news, Eboue is big part of Arsenal, we need him. The best thing about Eboue is he can play almost anywhere for Arsenal.

Everton can go do one if they think they're going to get that kind of money; they're unbelievably broke too.
AW, won't pay more than £12m...and inho, it's better than the stupid money Bolton want. I think AW is trying to do his part to keep excessive transfers purchases to a minimum.

I don't see why wenger just doesn't go for the guy from PSG for half the amount. There are plenty of better options out there , than to be spending flippin 20 mill on jagielka (cant bother googling his name ). Mertersaker and neven subotic... can be bought for that price

Because Sakho already stated that he wants to stay at PSG for one more year and play with them in the CL before leaving. He is the captain after all

No way Sakho would go for 10 million either, if we got him for that then that would be one of the best deals we've got in a long time. 18 million at least for him imo.
Comparison between Jagielka and Cahill here.
http://www.7amkickoff.com/2011/make-a-mountain-out-of-a-cahill-redux/
Cahill looks far superior to Jagielka in this case, although we do have to remember that Bolton probably have to defend more than Everton. On the other hand it still proves that Cahill is a competent player and I think it's possible that Wenger will wait till deadline day and put a 10 million bid in for Cahill, because Bolton are the ones under pressure to sell.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
That is probably it right there^^^ seeing as his value post august will depreciate to the core, and Bolton will be faced with having to to take 10 mill or nothing. The only downside i can see to this is if old man Rednapp bids like 14 mill right after we put in 10. Either way i always forget that Arsene has been doing this for nearly a decade , and still is seen as a top dog in teh transfer market.
I also want to see Cahill come in because the style football that Bolton play under Coyle is imo the closest thing to arsenal in the PL. Looking at the youtube clips (and i know that isnt saying much) Cahill is actually quite comfortable on the ball, but unlike our current defenders, doesn't hesitate to clear the ball when defending in the box (vs dribbling it away from danger)
I am starting to like the possibility of Cahill joining us.... for a cut price that is.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-we-have-to-find-one-more-defender
Arsène Wenger has revealed he will "certainly" find a new addition to his backline - but won’t be drawn on any individuals.
Everton defender Phil Jagielka is the latest name suggested by the media with Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Blackburn’s Chris Samba also linked with a move to Emirates Stadium this summer. Though he wouldn’t comment on specific players, Wenger confirmed to Arsenal.com on Friday that he is looking to add to his defensive options.
“Certainly, we will have to find one more defender,” he said. “We [are] working on it.
“I can promise we work very hard on it. In fairness, everybody looks for players. Everybody looks for the same area and you see that nobody turns up with magic. It’s all about being steady, working very hard on it and being calm as well.
“I don’t want to comment individually because I do not want to destabilise clubs. I do not want to do to other clubs what some clubs do to us so I wouldn’t like to comment individually on any player.”

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
That wouldn't be the first time Wenger has said he's working on strengthening a position and nearly every time he doesn't actually do what he said he wants to do, for whatever reason. So I'd take what Wenger has said about looking at defenders with a pinch of salt.
Analysing his quotes though:
“I can promise we work very hard on it. In fairness, everybody looks for players. Everybody looks for the same area and you see that nobody turns up with magic. It’s all about being steady, working very hard on it and being calm as well."
Code for "we're waiting for Bolton to get desperate so we can get Gary Cahill cheaper", perhaps?
They're "working hard" to lower Cahill's price and they're being "calm" about it because they know that Bolton may eventually be desperate to sell, given Cahill's contract situation and Bolton's financial situation.
Eh, that's just a conspiracy theory, though.
He's just saying that he's aware that he needs to buy a defender but won't panic buy. If he can't buy a defender he'll probably fall back on Bartley, since we've not let him go on loan despite Rangers being more than happy to take him.
