Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Here's someone we won't be signing this summer:
http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/9434/9/arsenal-break-transfer-talks-teenage-croatian-star
Arsenal have broken off negotiations over the proposed transfer of Mateo Kovačić, after baulking at Dinamo Zagreb's asking price for the midfielder.
The Gunners are long-term admirers of the exciting teenage playmaker, and have followed his development since the age of 13, when he rejected a number of Italian and German clubs in favour of a move to Zagreb.
He has since been watched a handful of times by Arsenal's chief scout Steve Rowley, including on his first-team debut against Hrvatski Dragovoljac last season.
All in all, Kovačić made eight appearances and scored two goals as Dinamo won the league last term, leading to mass interest from clubs all over Europe.
Sporting Director Zoran Mamić told the Croatian media this week he had held talks with Arsenal, but discussions had hit a deadlock over the transfer fee, with Zagreb believed to be looking for around £10m for the 17-year-old.
Mamić said: "A few days ago I talked with some of my friends from Arsenal. I told them Mateo Kovačić is in good form, that he is playing well. They say that Arsenal can't join this 'dance of millions' for him."
Kovačić is a current Croatia Under-17 international, and has been compared to Tottenham midfielder Luka Modrić.

They're so large that they have a screening process, whereby only those who makes posts of decent quality are allowed access to certain sections of the forum.
Personally I can't be bothered with it.

Skysports.com understands Arsenal, Tottenham and Stoke have made enquiries about Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton.
Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Uh oh. Poor Mole
BS rumor, though. I doubt he'll leave although he's just the type of player we need.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Barton is actually a good footballer. Otherwise, he's a prick.
Just cannot see Wenger being interested in him. Wenger generally doesn't tolerate those sorts of personalities.
Also, it'd block the path of players like Frimpong and Lansbury, both of whom are in Wenger's plans this season.

Wont happen
Barton is a Evertonian. He also said some disrespectful things about being a Liverpudlian and living in Liverpool. So most in Liverpool absolutely hates him from what i know. Also we already have like 1000 midfielders so we dont need him anyway.Luckily it just wont happen IMO.
Based on recent rumors Spurs are favourites to land him.Maybe he can give 'Arry lecture on jail experience which will be useful to 'Arry if the tax case goes against him.Hope they sign him.

Even though he is free, I hope to god Wenger does not sign him. Never liked him, we have enough problems at Arsenal.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsene Wenger is still confident of signing Juan Mata for Arsenal from Valencia, reports the Mirror. The paper claims AW has been talking to Valencia throughout, and to Mata’s agent – who is also the player’s Dad.
Mata, 23, had a fixed-price clause in his contract of around £18million but that figure increased after July 31, it is reported. AW remains confident he will be able to agree a fee for the winger.
The Mirror says it is believed Mata wants to join Arsenal and that his signing would give the club a huge lift, as Cesc Fabregas set to join Barcelona.
The Sun claims Man City are confident they will bag Arsenal star Samir Nasri with a "take it or leave it" bid of £22million. Er, leave it, ta.
Meanwhile, the Mail says Jack Wilshere will hope to relieve some of the pressure on AW today when the midfielder has a scan on an ankle injury.
The same paper claims Newcastle's decision to allow Joey Barton to leave on a free transfer has "sparked a scramble" between Arsenal, Manchester United and T********, who all want to talk to the midfielder.
Elsewhere there are reports that Arsenal have broken off negotiations over the proposed transfer of Mateo Kovacic, after dismissing Dinamo Zagreb's asking price for the midfielder.
And Nicklas Bendtner has been given a chance to stay in the Barclays Premier League by Stoke City. He seemed to off to Sporting Lisbon in a £9million deal last week but Tony Pulis has made an enquiry for the Dane.
