Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
Even if you look through the list linked, 16 is high, the highest in fact, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. 2016 had 13 deaths. In the years preceding, there are multiple years of 10/11/12 deaths. 16 is not an extreme outlier at all.
When you consider that COVID itself, as well as potentially the vaccine, can cause issues in some players, the numbers in 2021 don't really pop out as particularly surprising. The numbers in 2020 are also probably artificially low due to sports generally not occurring for much of the year, I would completely disregard those numbers

what's the link between heart problems and football players? intense training?BC wrote:I'd say it's to be expected since both covid and the vaccine impacts a small number of men aged 15-30 with heart problems, which is essentially most of the football player population.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
I don't. I just found it suspicious how athletes (especially footballers) are dropping (not all dead) like flies in 2021, the same year the vaccine was rolled out globally compared to 2020 with no vaccine.
2020 had what? 2-3 months of no football out of 12 months and we didn't see players dropping post covid-positive.
It's been confirmed myocarditis & pericarditis are linked with the mRNA vaccines, so it's not really surprising to see this many footballers collapsing considering how much they're running every game compared to say, NFL.

Think BC meant the age group.

Yup that's correct, age group. Although I'm sure putting their heart under constant strain doesn't help.
@Robespierre great resource for the new Botswana variant (likely to be called nu)

If they're highly contagious then hopefully they're less deadly, that would be the dream scenario, but we'll have to wait for the data.

During their PCR tests, the viral loads were VERY high considering they were negative on previous PCR tests. They had a Ct value of 18 and 19 value. So, this tell us that B.1.1.529 is likely highly contagious.

Third, if we need another vaccine, we can do this incredibly quickly. Thanks to the new biotechnology, mRNA vaccines are really easy to alter. Once the minor change is made, only 2 dozen people need to enroll in a trial to make sure the updated vaccine works. Then it can be distributed to arms. Because the change is small, an updated vaccine doesn’t need Phase III trials and/or regularity approval. So, this whole process should take a max of 6 weeks. We haven’t heard from Moderna or Pfizer if they’ve started creating an updated vaccine, but I guarantee conversations have started behind closed doors.

the year is 2045, in the outside world there are still deadly mutations of the virus, still vaccines being manufactured, as governments around the world have fully embraced The Metaverse as our new way of life.
out there somewhere are groups of rogue anti-vaxxers leading the anti-tech/anti-elite revolution.

Approved and the gouvernment is rolling out booster vaccines to anyone who had his last jab at least 6 months ago.

Honestly, the annoying guy in Germany, Karl Lauterbach, is totally alarmed by the variant even though he was unimpressed by all the others after the delta variant. His accuracy is usually upwards of 90% so I'd be very worried. Point is also, we're nowhere near summer with this variant emerging now. It's going to a very long winter

Past variant experience shows (Delta!) that (outside of island defense eg New Zealand ) by the time we have found, sequenced & named a #Variant like #Omicron …
It is already gotten on planes.
Closing borders is not the fix. https://t.co/4QAsbBk0hu

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
Just bought tickets for Mexico City after getting my booster. A day before the news of this variant comes out Felt that I can't hold off traveling forever while I'm still young, without kids etc. I don't feel any guilt over travelling at this point in the pandemic, but now I feel a bit anxious some bullshit travel restrictions are gonna kill my plans -.-

@BC
You can slow down the spead together with a lockdown. Winning time is also a strategy.
@CB
There's a saying, "no matter what happens life goes on". I booked a flight to Italy this for xmas, couldn't care less about anything anymore. You live once..

Re: The Coronavirus Thread - Part 3
The lockdown should apply to all countries or none. The US banning Chinese travel made no difference as it was already here and came from Europe anyways. Banning these 6 countries from southern Africa while the virus is already in HK, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Egypt, etc doesn't save you a whole lot of time.

They need everyone to have a QR code so they can rate citizens and forbid them from going into places. I assume they got a little envious of Xi Jinping down there in Chinah.

There's also mandatory vaccination for tetanus and polio and we're still not making iPhones surrounded by suicide nets, chill, you guys.

The draft paper for new measures was published in German media outlets. Our gouvernment doesn't plan any strict lockdowns. There was a talk about vaccine certificates being valid for 6months only but the plans were scrapped away. I'm positive we're learning to live alongside the virus.

People with knowledge, the actual medical scientists predict 1 of 100 of unvaxxed will die. The incidence is so high there's no way they could dodge being infected by Wuhan virus this time around (just read in mopo.de and got the confirmation in "Der Spiegel").

There's going to be huge amount of resistance. Passing laws and enacting them in reality aren't the same thing.

well it's not about it mutating into a lesser version of itself, that's not how it works right, it's about us gaining herd immunity (our immune systems conquering it)

Exactly. Destroying peoples lives and enforcing authoritarianism is never a good idea. Irregardless if you agree or disagree with the vaccine (I think the pros outweigh the cons for old people, however, there are far more adverse reactions to this particular mRNA vaccine here at parkland and UTSW), it is NEVER, EVER, okay to give the government the amount of control that they have in Australia and now Germany

I dont think it's for the EU to decide though , should be left alone in the hands of each government individually
although she eventually concedes that point:
But Mrs von der Leyen conceded the question was out of her hands because such a decision was a "pure member state competence", adding: "It is not for me to make such a recommendation.
Im pro EU and pro vax etc etc but at this point I draw the line at mandatory(being the key word here) vax. It is not a discussion to be had in this thread, but we should take it up sometime - a super-state EU which surely is the end-game for the big boys, I'm looking at DE here and perhaps FR too
