What a day. So happy for him. Been through a lot these past years and deserves all the success in the world.

from that list he is my pick easily without having had to see Mank... but from the looks of things Chloe Zhao is probably taking that award home.
I tried to celebrate this momentous moment for Danish film by watching Riders of Justice like you recommended but looks like it's not so easily available online yet.

Harmonica wrote:Dead as a dodo. Borat 2 with noms... rofl

film is still alive and breathing, but the Oscars are dead dead dead and they have been for quite some while, we all know it.

The only two really good films out of this bunch are Another Round and Trial of Chicago 7.
Going off general reviews Wolfwalkers seems to be good too, will try and catch it soon.

McLewis wrote:One Night in Miami - 8/10

It was a good watch. Strong performances from all 4 leads, particularly from Kingsley Ben-Adir and Leslie Odom Jr. So much commentary from this is as relevant today as it was then. What I liked most about this movie is that it captures how much things have changed and how much things have not changed at all. It will be in the awards hunt for sure.

McLewis wrote:
Judas and the Black Messiah

Haunting, taut and paced really well by Shaka King. Powerful performances from Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield and Dominique Fishback. Dovetails very nicely with the Trial of the Chicago 7, which takes place just after Fred Hampton's assassination.  I don't think I've been this impressed by a truly black historical film since Spike Lee's Malcolm X. One Night in Miami will be the media and awards show darling (and deservedly so), but this film....this is the real gem for me.

Watched these both and agree with you on Judas being the better movie. For me its the best movie of 2020 I've seen so far. Its stupid that Keith Stanfield got nominated for Supporting and not Main.

Also watched Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Chadwick winning Best Actor won't just be a sympathy award...he really did have one of the best performances of the year in that movie. I'd be fine with either him or Riz Ahmed winning.

Nomadland, Minari and Another Round on my list for the year.

i've absolutely enjoyed all Edgar Wright movies so far in his career, will be interesting to see what he does with a drama-horror film. Premise isn't something we haven't seen before in movies like Perfect Blue and Black Swan, so we'll see how it goes.

watched the new Guy Ritchie and Statham flick 'Wrath of Man' yesterday, had a real fucking neat cast when it was announced, but all of the decent actors are involved for like 5-10 mins at most. It's watchable, but not much more than that. Ritchie cashing in an easy payday I guess. The Gentleman was 10x better.

Watched The tomorrow war.

Oh boy, where do I even begin?

I can't believe i spent 2 hours watching this laughably bad film. It was so bad that it was hilarious. It's a shame because the premises was actually quite interesting. There is 0 redeeming factor in this film. Like even the CGI is bottom tier.

2/10 maybe

Yea he is a poor actor but does well in a comedy setting. Probably his best point. Ever since guardians, it feels like he is just trying to be star lord but a different variation of it.

He could barely do the emotional scenes in this film but was fine in the action ones.

I saw it

The most normal film i've seen by Ritchie. It seems not made by him. Promising at the beginning but progressively the tense atmosphere turns into more classic action film. The story is interesting but
Spoiler:
and also a total lack of humor which surprised me

I rate B- clearly an easy payday
