Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Lost Daughter is an absolutely emotionally devastating film

I have to return some videotapes.
Love it as well. But you would be surprised to know that my favorite part about AP is not even in the movie itself. It's when people argue about whether all the killings truly happened or if Bateman imagined everything in his head.
They always start the debate in a civil manner, but it quickly turns into a bloodbath

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
that's interesting, never knew about that debate. Certainly seems plausible now that i think about it.
But those debates are inconsequential just as it is with Fight Club for me, because obviously the absurd violence and social commentary are the entire point of the films

Sure, but it's fun debating/analyzing dumb shit like that. Kinda like the ending to The One I Love.

Rewatched Inception last night, the movie was great but Hans Zimmer really turned it into a masterpiece with that amazing soundtrack.

it's part of a movie's overall greatness and the director's vision and direction to bring such a piece of composition out of a sound composer

October 1994 Pulp fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Lion King, Forrest Gump and Jurassic Park were all in theater. How fucking crazy is that compared to movies today? Of course being a teen I saw Jurassic Park at the time.

Although there's lot of director composer duos, nothing beats Leone Morricone. Leone used to play Morricone's score in the set, so everybody could choreograph perfectly in sync.El Gunner wrote:it's part of a movie's overall greatness and the director's vision and direction to bring such a piece of composition out of a sound composer

I actually read few lines of that knowing it was some woke shit, but still gave it a chance. "preached conservatism" almost stopped, "never comprehends racism" and stopped there. I thought I was watching a simple man winning in life, rather than philosopher failing to aknowledge every injustice in the world.El Gunner wrote:it has aged like sour milk within cultural discourse...

It's a great movie, not the best that year produced although it won the Oscar for it, but it was one the most stacked years in movies.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Forrest Gump is a fable and it should be beyond clear to every so-called film critique. USA in 20th century was itself a conservative propaganda and it happens to be the era the film is set in

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
1999 is imo the best year in film ever, so many game-changers:
The Matrix
Fight Club
Eyes Wide Shut (by far my favourite Kubrick)
Election
Magnolia
The Green Mile
Being John Malkovich
The Iron Giant (perhaps my favourite animation of all time)
Audition
American Beauty (even if it's cultural discourse has also taken a knock over the years)

you simply can't expect people not to analyse something through their own experience and knowledge base...
i loved Forrest Gump too when i saw it back when i was a teenager, but i'm sure if i watch it now i will find a lot to cringe about

Forrest Gump - 6 Oscars including the best movie
Jurassic Park - Revolutionary animatronics
Lion King - IMDB #1 cartoon (non anime)

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Yeah Leono/Morricone is on top in all the endings of Leone's westerns. Nowadays composers do their stuff pretty much outside of the movie, and then they are combined post production. Far cry when you do it liveWarrior wrote:Harmonica wrote:Greates director composer synergy ever on film

Now that you brought it up that's one of the greatest years too. I agree with Eye's Wide Shut, it's my favorite Kubrick, with Barry Lyndon and Paths of Glory.El Gunner wrote:1999 is imo the best year in film ever, so many game-changers:

Never actually seen The Iron Giant, seems to be one of the few that slipped by. Need to watch it now. For me Spirited Away is still the best animation ever made, it's just so different.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Iron Giant is amazing you will not regret
On the previous topic i have not seen many Kubricks
Full Metal Jacket is great
Shining i don't remember much but the eerie atmosphere, it probably deserves a second watch
2001 i found it boring as hell, i was invited by a friend who studies cinema and insisted i should see this masterpiece, for the 50th anniversary of the film or something, and i showed up high af to the theater and fell asleep halfway through so maybe it also deserves a second watch
I have Clockwork Orange and Spartacus in my list of must-see

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
With Kubrick all of his work from Path's of Glory is pretty much perfect, as he was the perfectionist. The subject may be boring, but it's always portrayed so well. This is my second favorite anime ever, that you can actually watch in tube:

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Full Metal Jacket is probably my second favorite war movie, definitely one of Kubrick best movies. I have not seen Eyes Wide Shut, based on the description cant imagine it something i would like.
If curious The Deer Hunter tops my all time favorite war movie. If you have not seen it, i highly recommend it. imo it has some of the best moments in cinema history. I still watch it from time to time.
