Been watching a fair share of U-17 World Cup and I must say there is one player whom I've been very impressed by. And that's the Japanese midfielder Jun Nishikawa. Very technical and super intelligent for his age. I heard Barcelona are interested in signing him.

He's one to watch.

Should have been a season when he saw regular minutes. Instead we kept giving minutes to overpaid deadwood like Busquets, Rakitic and Vidal. Expect the 3 to start once the knockouts roll around and us to go out in a humiliating fashion again. What we get for loaning out a player who has some dynamism for 3 bums.

Arthur, De Jong, Busquets, Rakitic is a good mix of midfielders as long as Rakitic and Busquets don't play together.

Alena is young but we are lowering our standards if we start giving major minutes to players of his okay-ish quality. He is like our version of Madrid's Granero back in the days, not much more.

Vidal's quality has dropped a lot this season, he is pointless right now and can go. Didn't like him even in his prime by the way, running around a lot with lots of energy and fouling people doesn't make you a Barca quality midfielder.

Agreed about Alena and Vidal but if Arthur gets injured (which he does often, STDs etc etc) we have no substitute. Unless you count Sergi Roberto, but you shouldn't.

He is much better than Granero. Can carry the ball and has a great final ball which neither of Rakitic or Vidal have. Point being, Alena is much better than Rakitic and Vidal right now. Writing is on the wall. We are going to line up with the infamous trio again and bow out humiliatingly again. Busquets is finished at this level. He is a sublime passer and no one can find a player between the lines like he can. It helps us in the league but not in key CL games. We are going to get slaughtered again if Busquets and Rakitic plays.

Suarez out for the season. It's going to be a long 2nd half of the season. Would be surprised if Griezman is effective playing up top with Messi. Expect even more boring one dimensional football with zero movement and penetration. Messi to Alba, only this time the one dimensional cut back doesnt work because Suarez isnt there to make space for Messi.

Agreed. Griezmann's movements are not compatible with Messi at all. Someone like Lautaro would be far better.

Suarez out for the season means we are done. Suarez and Messi are the only match winners, on top of that Suarez enables Messi. With a weak midfield, weak fullbacks and no wingers, stopping Messi in the #9 role will be easy, especially at this stage of his career.

actually, moving Messi to the false 9 and Griezmann to the right will unlock Griezmann imo.  He is most definitely a game winner...  but completely wasted so far on the left and basically floating nowhere.

Dembele and Ansu Fati are at their best on the left anyhow and are more wingers (or at least Dembele is).

It can work.  Bigger issues are to sort out the midfield and fullbacks.

Messi at false 9 hasn’t worked since 2012. It has consistently failed since then in part because teams have adapted and in part because Messi’s off the ball movement and dribbling has declined. Unless Barca buys a #9 in this window, they’re done.

It didn't really decline to me.  Pep left in 2012 and then Suarez came in 2014.  So both tactics and personnel moved away from playing Messi down the middle, not effectiveness.

The big issue is who creates out of the midfield.  Messi has become the principal creative force that feeds the attack.  Xavi and Iniesta are no longer there.

Defensively, it would be better. Messi doesn't defend. That put a lot of pressure on the right fullback. If he goes central, you get better coverage on that side (Griezmann defends well).

To me, Barca's issues are mostly defensive... and in the midfield. Not so much the attack.

Too expensive and won't leave mid-season. Reportedly Setien requested Rodrigo as a temporary solution but Valencia want 60 mil so also no.

It's a tough nut to crack this one. Lautaro will also not leave mid-season.
