Yakuza series
Felt like making a thread because i know Thimmy likes it and after playing Yakuza 0 i'm definitely getting 6 but probably best idea to converge the whole series into one thread tbh as it probably won't be popular enough for multiple game threads
But anyway onto Yakuza 0....
Good *bleep* god this game.
Just finished chapter 6 and this game is perfection, the acting, the writing, the combat, the weird as *bleep* side missions and of course the *bleep* mini games.
It's an easy 9 out of 10 already and this train doesn't look like slowing down, i genuinely want to know where this series has been all my life. I'm day 1 for Yakuza 6 and will probably get the remade version of 1 coming out later in the year too.
I'm in gaming love.

They teased that an announcement regarding the series is coming soon. Really hope its a remaster of Yakuza 2, that game has the GOAT story and villain.

What i meant by that was i didn't like the look of the combat, but after playing it i fell in love with it.
Honestly i should have listened to my own advice about games, which is never actually judge a game by watching it you have to play it and feel it.
Also i heard about that announcement, i was under the impression it would just be a western release date for Yakuza 6? i wouldn't complain if it was a Yakuza 2 remake though.
Currently i'm going to get the Y1 remake and look at recaps on youtube for the rest, cba playing old games atm and i'm so hyped that i'm gonna be day 1 for Yakuza 6.

Re: Yakuza series
Majima's personality in the other games will shock you, Mole
Sony's exclusive games of 2017 have all been brilliant, and that includes Yakuza 0. I wasn't sure whether or not you would like it, because I see a lot of people talking about Sony's exclusives of this year and not including Yakuza 0 for whatever reason. I suppose it's one of those games people typically tend to not even give a chance, because they simply look too culturally alienating based on first impressions.
I really appreciate how refreshingly different these Japanese games are from the games I usually play, and I think it's sometimes a good thing to not know exactly what to expect from them. Also, I love Kiryu as a protagonist. I'm so tired of protagonists who take themselves too seriously. Kiryu doesn't even want to fight, he's just unfortunate to constantly run into people who want to pick a fight with him

How far does the porn videos go in the game? Surely they aren't showing pixelated genitalia are they? I know they got some current porn idols to do the videos for it. Did they make the girls look like 80's Idols? Would be weird if the girls look like current girls in a game that took place in the 80's since women looked different back then.
They look like current-day girls, and they're basically just posing while wearing skimpy, beach attire. At least, that's how it is from what I've seen of it. No censorship. Also, watching those videos give you some kind of boost or regeneration. I don't remember what kind, but I remember going all the way back to the VHS place, just to get the boost

Thats pretty cool actually![]()
Does it feel like the 80's? Or more recent in terms of vibes. I know Shenmue also took place in the 80s, but Yokosuka is a dump so nobody could tell if it was the 80s there. This game takes place in the Kabuki though, so does it feel like the 80's when you are playing?
Oh, definitely. The clothing, the neon lights, the buildings, hairstyles, and furniture all feel very 80s- like. The music is also very 80s-style, even if some of the songs weren't released until the early 90s

You caught the Hamada song too?![]()

Thats why I thought it was 90's for real. I am like that song couldnt have been out in 88, and been on top 40 radio in my mom's home movies when she was about to have me. It would have had to have been a one of the biggest songs ever with the churn and burn they put songs through.
I just read your comment on that song. I was born in 88, but I'm not exactly an expert on 80s music, let alone Japanese songs from the 80s

My Youtube account is like 95%+ 80's Japanese music, but I just knew that song specifically because it dropped the month I was born, in 89. Plus Hamada was really huge. Back in the 80's, when Corporations in Japan actually had money, they would have competitions where they would pick people to sing official songs for the Olympics. She won for the 88 olympics in Seoul and pretty much made her mainstream.
I digress though have you came across dancing naked guy yet?![]()

Of course. I even found the secret to his endless mojo, at the end of his quest line

He's amazing, always giving you shit when you come out of the porn video store.
Hilarious character, said it earlier but the weird as *bleep* sidequests are low key the best part.
They are amazing.

Up to Chapter 14 now
I assume i'm not far from finishing now Thimmy? it's been fantastic loved everything about it from the story, to the acting, to the characters, to the mini games, to the weird AF side quests and the ridiculously OTT combat.
Probably in my top 5 for the PS4 gen tbh

Re: Yakuza series
I've been watching a few Yakuza 6 videos, and it looks fantastic! Improved graphics, more realistic combat system, more interactive stores and buildings that you can enter, and even being able to walk around on rooftops. I'll most likely get Yakuza: Kiwami, but what I'm really itching to play is Yakuza 6. Unlike Yakuza 0, Yakuza 6 has been developed specifically for current gen consoles, with updated tech and whatnot. I'm really looking forward to it's release.

I have too coincidentally, the visuals really impressed me.
They look like the cutsscenes Yakuza 0 level but actual gameplay, really hyped for it.
