they gave up on nukes as soon as they had them. i think its safe to say they have a few nukes stashed and ready to go.Hapless_Hans wrote:Iran gave up on nukes more or less in 2005 or something like that
The deal was about them renouncing their right to enrichment which they possess by international law, having signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation treaty (which other relevant countries *cough*Israel*cough* have not signed)
None of this has to do with Gun Violence in US tho

Former Marine that was well known to local law enforcement and is believed to have PTSD.
RIP to the victims.

I think banning every veteran from coming back to the country would be a good move imo.

well if you train people to kill and drop them in war zones you have to expect it to mess up the heads on some people. I’ve never had PTSD but I hear it is a real thing.RealGunner wrote:I see

Republicans have continually fought against helping veterans. Doesn’t help their mental health at all.
Blaming Obama is legit.

It is.
These people have huge mental problems due to having had to kill people and to witness, or enact, inhuman cruelty.
They get back and then it's quite likely things don't work out, they have access to weapons but often no access to good mental health care, they know how to use them weapons more than they know how to deal with their mental health problems, it's fucked up and no wonder things like that happen.
They are John Rambo only that it's not a film and the people they kill are not villains.

Rambo didn't kill anyone in the first film iirc. That is one of the best portrayals of PTSD from that era. Then it turned into a cliche action franchise instead a post-war drama.

Re: USA gun violence thread
The Veteran Affairs (VA) department of our government is a flaming dumpster fire and has been for several administrations going all the way back to the Vietnam War so these men and women are not getting the help they need from the very government that sent them off to see and do fucked up shit in the name of "freedom" and "liberty". This is why I cringe whenever someone tells me "freedom isn't free". If this is the price we must pay, we need to re-negotiate that payment method then.
Another even more pervasive stigma is this perception of weakness in US male culture that surrounds mental health. In this country, if you're guy and you have mental health issues, you are looked down upon by other men (even women sometimes) and considered weak in some communities (like the Black community). This is such an insidious problem that is simply not talked about enough so it goes undetected. It's at its worst in low-income, lower class environments like the inner city neighborhoods of Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, etc where affordable mental health services are virtually non-existent. Men in this country simply aren't confident enough and do not receive enough earnest, genuine support from their government, employers, family, communities etc to really take steps towards treating their mental health so it's allowed to fester, making them walking, talking ticking time bombs.
As pro-gun control as I am, the gun is not the most important component of this shooting. The shooter's mental health is. The government he served failed him. The system that was supposed to prepare him for re-entry from a battlefield into civilian society failed him. He never really had much of a chance. It's just heartbreaking that so many died because of these failures.

Re: USA gun violence thread
I come from a family where military service has been the tradition going all the way back to at least Korea in the 50s and likely beyond that.. Every generation has a few that join each branch. I tried to join the National Guard when I was still in high school (wasn't to be a patriot, just to make money since were struggling financially). My mom vehemently opposed it and refused to sign the guardian waiver. Best thing she ever did for me as the War in Iraq kicked off not too soon after and I very likely would've been activated and deployed. I can't imagine what my head would be like today if that had happened.
I hope this shooting serves at a wake up call that more needs to be done for veterans, but neither Trump, who seems them as his personal toy army, nor the Dem-controlled House (Democrats aren't known for their unwavering support of the military like the GOP are) will do much so not holding my breath.

I am in Paris getting ready to celebrate the end of World War One. Is there anything better to celebrate than the end of a war, in particular that one, which was one of the bloodiest and worst of all time?

Florida police charge an 11-year-old boy with manslaughter after his parents leave him home alone with loaded, unsecured guns. The parents have not been charged.

A child being held responsible for the negligence of adult gun owners. Again. https://t.co/jW8rPaUcJj
People are stupid and should not own guns. How do you leave kids alone with loaded weapons

Aren't they just playing into the hand of NRA which claims more guns could actually prevent those shooting incidents???

One of those he killed was just 6 years old.
This is a textbook reason for having federal gun laws. The states have failed to protect people from shit like this. Now the federal gov't needs to step in.
Of course, the NRA-controlled GOP Senate won't let that happen. It took a force of nature (read: John Stewart) to get them to pass legislation for 9/11 first responders.
We're fucked.

I'm surprised this is not a bigger deal in the news cycle. Kinda shows how much we have internalized it.
