Guy was bleeding out, emotionally unstable after killing his old man and had Rey backed up but decided to try and recruit her instead of killing her.

Ren will be more OP next episode.

overpowered, like Rey was 5 seconds after finding out she was a force user. Everybody complained about that.

I'm guessing Ren will be twice as good by episode 8 now he's getting trained up and will end up wrecking the protagonists in a scene or 2
