At which point Wenger will blurt out the usual cliches that AKBs will repeat and defend the inadequate transfer window.RealGunner wrote:We will probably get in the action towards mid august

Gustavo is nothing like Ramires imo.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I really don't mind any of Schneiderlin/Gustavo. Both excellent players who will undoubtedly improve us in midfield.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
He's not in the sense that he's pure DM while Ramires is a B2B. My point is that he's just as reckless a tackler and, frankly, just as technically limited as Ramires. If you can't get Schneiderlin, then get Gustavo by all means. But you're not getting this great CM... you're just getting an upgraded version of Flamini.Hapless_Hans wrote:Gustavo is nothing like Ramires imo.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Luiz Gustavo isn't "as technically limited as Ramires". He's far far better than Flamini. Not to mention that Schneiderlin compared to Luiz Gustavo isn't a technical beast either.
Besides Luiz Gustavo has proved himself at the highest level and will prove it again this summer with Brazil something Schneiderlin is yet to do in his career.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Gustavo had couple of really bad games last season, particularly some of 1st few games when he got 2 or 3 straight red cards but after he settled in, he shown class. I'm ok with either but Gustavo will cost arm & leg with his wage & his club is very healthy financially so basically we need to convince him to come.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Definitely gonna watch out for both depending on how much playing time Schneiderlin actually gets.
Even if Wolfsburg are set and in a good financial position, we have Champions League football as a lure, they don't.
Same goes with Schneiderlin. But it might be more difficult to negotiate with Southampton when they're being raided and are manager-less.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
He has a release clause of €25m which he confirmed himself in the same interview he said he wants to play for a CL team. We can get Gustavo if we want imo, unless someone like Barcelona or Real Madrid gets in which is why I hoped we would get him before the World Cup, just in case...
Schneiderlin could be harder because everyone else is leaving that club and they might just want to keep him what ever the price, he also said he won't force a move.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
You can get him no problem if you pay his release clause.
Stumbling block probably will be wages, as they probably were last year.
You just can't expect a player like Gustavo to go anywhere for LESS than he gets.
Of course Wenger is free to feel that he isn't worth that much, but that's his problem, not Gustavo's.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsenal still looking at David Marshall as backup for Szczesny - apparently we're willing to go up to £8mil for him. This is Goal.com, though:
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2014/06/10/4872727/arsenal-open-talks-with-cardiff-over-marshall-swoop
I don't think he's as good as he was made out to be last season, and he's a bit pricey for a backup keeper which isn't a good thing when we're trying to use our budget wisely on multiple positions.
I suppose the real question is: can he push Szczesny for that no. 1 spot? We know Szczesny can grow too comfortable in the position and let his form drop a bit, so adequate competition to keep him on his toes is important. If he can, then I wouldn't mind us signing Marshall. That he counts as a homegrown player is also useful.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
£8mio is indeed a bit too much, most Wenger spent on a backup GK was £6m on Richard Wright and he wasn't only a backup but a long term replacement for Seaman so yeah... I call bullshit on this one.
But I like him, if we can get him I will celebrate it as a good signing.

Guillermo Ochoa is free ffs. Ajaccio was a horrible team, but he was really good. Was equally as good last year. Save the money for the big name players.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
What's our homegrown count at? Do we really need to pay that much for a backup just to keep our homegrown in check?
Pantilimon is still available for free! lol

He's just signed a new deal so it's irrelevant who we could or want to get.

Kike Marin: Aperribay: "El #Arsenal ya nos ha dicho que cuentan con Vela para la próxima temporada". La #RealSociedad confirma que ejecutó la opción.
Which apparently translates to:
Aperribay: "the #Arsenal already has told us that they have Vela for next season". The #RealSociedad confirms that he ran the option.

So he's reporting their club president confirmed Arsenal will be buying Vela back for £3.3m?
Good business if true.

Remains to be seen if he wants to come back, and if he does come back, whether we'll keep him or look to sell him to someone else.

Someone said it before but I don't think we're allowed to sell him back in the same window that we activate the buyback in?
