Suárez claims the club told him they would let him depart if they failed to qualify for the Champions League this season and that a clause in his contract allows him to leave should someone make a bid of more than £40m. He says he has the backing of the Professional Footballers' Association and that he his prepared to take the issue to the Premier League to force his exit and move to the Emirates before the transfer window closes on 2 September.

Can we get him for £40m + £1?

He's just parroting what his agent has been saying, and there's a chance that his "backing" and threats of arbitration are all just bluster. Liverpool have been just as adamant about their own interpretation of the clause and will, I think, continue to be so. In that case, Suarez and his people would actually have to through with their threats.

Then even if their interpretation turned out to be true, there would probably be a dispute about whether we're actually in the Champions League or not, and we'd then have to wait until after we qualify.

All speculation, of course, but I'm not anticipating a quick resolution to this since there's still so much to be cleared up. I'm no more confident about this now than I was last week or the week before.

Yea it's nowhere near done. Liverpool can still sell him to someone else. I am sure we are the last team they will sell to since they are competing with us for the 4th place.

The way I see it, the only thing that changed is that Bitey will certainly leave this summer if there was any doubt... be it us or someone else. That alone is a positive.

Real Madrid might f*ck us for the 2nd time this summer if they don't sign Bale.

Though... the way Bitey speaks about us could mean that he knows there's not much chance of him joining Real Madrid this summer.
