Why we need to sell Bartra. He is a great player and only can improve. At least he would be better backup than anyone else we can get atm.

At least give this kid to enter his prime. Then we will see.

Bartra is not a elite already.....No way right now, based on this season. Or may be you have a different definition for the word "elite"
If you say he was not given enough game time, then we both should wait to comment on him until some new manager comes and give him enough time.

Mascherano can go though. His presence just hinders us from actually signing the 2 CB's we truly require.

Said it a million times, I love his attitude, I love his desire...I wish he was 6 inches taller and had the brain of a centerback.

Batra's pace leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't really make sense having Batra, Busquets, Xavi, Fabregas, Iniesta all in the same team esp given the way Barca likes to push their fullbacks forward all the time. Ever wondered why it's so damn easy to score on a counter against Barca? Well, now you know.

I would say it's Bartra's presence that hinders us from buying what we need. He sucked up to Puyol all season, cried after the Copa final, is Catalan homegrown and is playing a position in which we seriously lack - BAM, fan favourite. Doesn't matter how average he is on the pitch, how he lacks any sort of athleticism for a defender (guy is built like a stick) and that he isn't showing anything special for an already 23 year old at all. Yet we aren't seriously pursuing anyone because Bartra will grow. That's basically what our sports director has said.

I defiantly disagree, but I argue with you too often so I will leave it to someone else.

Zubi is a clown, he is the real reason we dont buy a centerback.

Players say this all the time though. Not that I disagree with the "won't believe it until it happens part". I would be quite happy if we got Laporte.

If this guy didnt have La Liga experience, I would be truly worried at the prospect of signing this kind of player.

Barcelona lack a defence leader aswell as fundamentally good defenders. He will not provide it.

However, the fact he has La Liga pedigree gives him the best chance to settle in (as opposed to buying a similar calibre player from a different league) and that's what I am hanging my hat on at the moment.

yup i got really worried about him when i saw Diego Costa running at him few weeks ago. Costa absolutely destroyed him, ran in his back ran past him, outmuscled him... he got the full costa package.

But asking for a leader is difficult, it's gonna be hard for anyway coming into barca to suddenly take charge of the back line and to command guys like pique, alves and alba.

Nah, he dont have it. Mascherano is the one doing most of the leading back there, you see it at every set peice especially.

Main problem I have with Laporte is his price tag. If we're going to spend 36m to get a CB might as well at least try for Benahtia, Koscielny or Mangala for 40.

Also Pique will never be the leader. Say what you will about Masche but he has been captain at Liverpool and Argentina (before ceding it to Messi).

Agreed. I have always been a fan of Koscielny and advocated buying him even for 30+ last season. If we're going to spend that much, I'd rather see it on Koscielny. That being said, I like Laporte and he's young. Really, I'm happy that we seem to be actually in the market of getting a CB who is tall and strong and...a CB. Vertonghen would cost 30 million as well, and I would be happy with him. He was captain at Ajax and has been a great leader for Spurs as well. Unfortunately he's struggled with some injuries this year (like the entire Spurs backline )
