Transfer Rumours

Garbage. They knocked out the Neymar deal before the window even officially openend. Now here we are with less than a week before the season starts again and they are still trying to figuring out who to sign. They don't need a massive blockbuster signing. It's like thats the only thing they think they can do. Thiago Silva, Luiz or Agger. Thats pretty much been the only discussion the entire summer. And none of the are in clubs that want to or need to sell them. So retarded.

Hate to say it but I hope we start off licking balls at the back just to team the board a lesson of how retarded they are.

Vertonghen's fee won't come less than the highest amount Barca is willing to spend on Luiz (35 million). Is he worth that much? Not in my opinion, but circumstances call for it.

Not only will Levy squeeze every last cent he can out of the deal, but as I've said, Spurs are looking for CB's...he's not going to sell his best one. Tottenham are spending money pretty big (for Tottenham) this summer and are looking to really crack the top 4 if not do even better...Levy isn't going to sell. Vertonghen is not for sale unless an unrealistic, ridiculous, can't-turn-down offer comes along, which Barca is not going to do.

Reports now claim we will only purchase a player if we can do so for a reasonable price. That's all well and good but we should stop looking at top clubs if we don't want to pay up.

The more I think about our CB situation,the more I cant help but draw parallels with United and their midfield situation.
Like us with CB's,midfield has been a problem for United for quite some time.
And yet like us with CB's,they strangely wont sign anyone for midfield,even though everyone knows its a weak area for them.
The more criticism their midfield gets,the more determined they seem not to sign anyone.In a way their recent success stands in the way.Its as if,we have been so successful even with a poor midfield.So we wont sign anyone.
Similar situation.We have been successful even with scrubs at the back so we wont sign anyone.Both clubs seem to be obstinate and strange about it.

Playing players out of position.United playing the likes of Rooney,Jones etc in midfield and us playing the likes of Song,Busquets,Adriano etc at CB.

Even the transfer policy bears resemblance.Going for unrealistic targets.Us with our halfhearted pursuit of TS,Luiz etc and United with their pursuit of Fab,Thaigo,Schweini etc.

Everything seems eerily similar except for the difference in position.

Meeting was had today with the staff its been decided they will get a CB this summer.

Sakho is being mentioned as an option and won't be too pricey

And apparently Chelsea wants 50m for luiz - kind of saying go away....Rosell can try requesting some retired legends....

alex, the same thought has crossed my mind as well several times but you have put it very well. Indeed the approach of both the clubs is weirdly similar. Try to go after unrealistic targets and waste as much time as possible and don't even make a half hearted attempt to pursue a realistic option.

Seriously!!! I didn't read anything like this but then I haven't checked Twitter yet today.

From what I can understand is if by any chance we do buy a CB this summer then the incumbent would be Jeremy Mathieu or Inigo Martinez. Those seem to be the only two realistic options and even in those cases because it is so late the ire of their present clubs will be upon us.

Great comparison, never thought of it.

One key difference I think is Man Utd play a style in which in the big games, they arent trying to actually keep the ball and circulate it in the midfield so they can afford to play a disciplined holder who is decent positionally and can make passes into wide areas (Carrick when not pressed) and a ruggged defensive runner/presser/man marker in Jones.

There is no style which can save all the various blunders our centerbacks do.

Unfair. What you said is basically accusing him of being biased and unprofessional. We don't know for sure whose decision was it not to sign a CB. The only fact we know is the Board tried to sign a CB and they failed so far.

Im not accusing him of anything...its merely a suspicion.

Yeah would wait up to actually hear quotes before speculating on a whose decision it is to not purchase a cb.

Big mistake by Martino. Leaves a big weakness at Barca that cost you guys a lot last year. This is a very veteran club... it's not like the problems can be attributed to youth and you expect a growth curve.
