We have already committed the blunder of the summer by failing to retain Thiago. Now if we don't even buy a CB as is likely in my view, I envision a nightmare of a season coming up just as previously stated.

Someone had written a few weeks back that this summer a CB will be purchased since even the board has seen how many goals we conceded last season. Just read this on Twitter.

Barcelona sounded out Tottenham on Gareth Bale in summer 2011. The asking price was then 40M, which Barcelona considered too high.

He is about to be sold for 115M. You decide who you want to laugh at.

wtf. That's like the dumbest logic I've ever heard. The hell is wrong with the board. It's like year after year they TRY to not purchase a CB at all costs.

And btw, Puyol won't be back until late September at the earliest. So we are goig to roll in with Masch as the CB and Barta the back up. Barta is considering going on loan, so that would leave Adriano backing up both Alba and Masch. that height.

Pique nowadays must be thinking he is the second most important player in the team after Messi. After all if a team has only one center back he's got to be treated like a king.

I dont get this "we need a barca type CB who can pass the ball " nonsense.

Most CBs who play in the top level have decent passing skills anyway. We already have good passers ; Masch, Pique, Batra. IICR Puyol wasnt well known for his passing skills but no nonsense type of defending.

We need someone quick, strong , tall , good at defending set pieces/corners.

The thing which annoys me most about this is that nearly every single player who joins us improves with the ball.

Look at Mascherano now compared to when he came, he can actually play some half decent passes once in a while.

Caceres was probably the worst guy with the ball I remember playing for us since the Guardiola years, but look at him now too, hes much better.

Caceres would be a definite improvement now tbh. And he can also be that RB that compliments Alba defensively...

Well, look on the bright side. We did win the CL before with Masche and Pique, maybe if we can solve some of our tactical issues we can still compete.

Sakho would have looked sexy in a Barca T-shirt though...

How often do sporting director's get sacked? My guess is not often at all, you rarely here alot about it.

I think Zubi is doing as bad a job possible in now 3 summers, if he doesnt get a CB its nail in the coffin.

He has signed I think Neymar, Adriano, Alba, Cesc, Alexis, Song and Mascherano.

Neymar we cant judge yet, butt he other 6 have all to me, been failures. Some may argue Alba has been good but they cannot deny his signing has been a downgrade to the defence.

And his outgoings are just as bad, loaning players we need to sell, selling players we can still use and keeping crap.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Martino also wants to go back to Newell's to sign an eventual replacement for Victor Valdes in goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman.

Guzman, 27, was promoted from the bench at the Rosario club by Martino, and impressed as they sealed the 2012 Argentine league title and reached the recent Copa Libertadores semi-finals.

The 6' 4" 'keeper will be monitored closely by Barca this season with a view to potentially making a move when Valdes moves on at the end of his contract in June 2014, according to the Catalan daily

I believe the reports are that Martino requested Barca keep an eye on his development, not so much that he wants to purchase him right now or definitely in a year.
