Part of me simply doesn't want Hiddink because I'm bitter about the way his Chelsea played against Barcelona in '09. I shouldn't be because pure football won in the end, but...ugh.

As official as we're going to get for a few days, I think.

Bienvenido Tata!!Que todo salga bien,y sigamos por la buena senda!!Gracias Tito!!Dios te bendiga!!

Not only did he weclom Tata, he also thanked Tito.

According to Barcastuff (yes I just barely got twitter lol)-

Tata Martino would become the 4th Argentine coach at Barcelona, after Helenio Herrera, Roque Olsen and Cesar Luis Menotti.

Barcelona have put all transfer negotiations, especially those regarding a centre back, on hold until the appointment of the new coach [md]

Most media agree that the main issue left for a final deal with Tata Martino as new Barcelona coach is the composition of his staff.

So, it looks like theres a good chance he is trying to bring his own assistant couch which would ultimatley mean the end of Roura. Not sure about Rubi whom we just got from Girona

Also, we are being linked to 17 year old defender (not for the first team) Tiago Casasola from Boca Juniors

Madrid contacted Tata Martino... juas. What next, Brazil wanted him? Very Happy

Danyjr, I never said Luis Enrique was more proven than Tata, but he has worked with us and we know he works well.

And now Messi's brother is who officially welcomes Tata to the club. This smells not fishy, rotten.

And just because you haven't heard of him doesn't mean no one has. The press has been universally praising him for over a year and a half in Argentina. Ole, the site that first broke that Barca contacted him, claims that both Valdano and Bielsa have provided stellar references for him. He took Paraguay to it's best standing (QF) in a WC ever, and put up the best fight vs the eventual champions. He then took over a relegation battler and made them champions in a year and a half. With style.

If we were to have overlooked AVB, Pellegrini or Valverde for him I might agree that it was the wrong decision. But they all have contracts. He has more experience than LE has under his belt, who might be a good idea but is still far too green for the Barca job. Pep was the exception, not the rule.

And now your blind hate is making me sound like a fanboy...

If this was true then its good to know that even Real considered him.... he can be bad...

I love Luis Enrique, the man is probably my all time favourite Barca player, but I feel like we would be hiring him simply because where he is from rather than what he may be capable of. And im sick of us making decisions based on this as we often do.

I cant hate on Martino for playing defensively with Paraguay. Other than Ortegoza (I think thats who I am thinking of) I cant name another midfielder or winger with any real creativity and invention.

I am hopeful he is what we need. I am really hoping this guy slaps our guys into shape. I think we need a radical change in the way things are done, and it wasnt with personale and I dont think anyone wants it to be philosophy so coaching, be it tactics, training and ideas may be the way.

Excellent post. Said pretty much everything in such a precise manner. Agree with every word.

He was also Real Sociedads and Malagas first choice but he turned them both down.

Biesla is apparently rumored to be in line to be the next Mexico NT manager with the current manager probably on his way out sooner or later

One thing that interests me is to see who Tata (slang for grandfather in Spanish) requests in this transfer window. Managers usually like to bring in a player or two from there old club. Any young stand outs with Newells? Even if it's just for the B team? Odds are he is going to requests some Argie's....like a Banega type I am guessing (I would be more than okay with selling Cesc and replaying him with Benega). Could also mean more playing time for Masch (shutters). Never know, this guys system might get the most out of Cesc, Alexis and Masch who have under performed

So we actually never contacted with Luis Enrique.(confirmed by him). Anyway i am more than happy with this new guy.....May be unproven in Europe but atleast he will give us interesting ideas....
BTW, Puyol was talking about pairing with T.Silva today....I wonder we still have chance to grab him...

Haven't heard of him, not sure why Barcelona are so keen on Boca youngsters, but I'm happy they take them because under our board they get zero play time. It is hard for me to say it but River have got a much better youth system.

Barca has an arrangement with boca I believe. And yeah, we do, but if you look at the nt you moght be forgiven for thinking newells has the best youth right now.

Either way the youth infrastructure in argentina is awful. There is basically no structure or support from afa anf as a reault nearly all of our talents come ftom bs as and rosario. There is a huge untapped potential in the league.

I hope not. If pressing is the reason, him being on the wing is even worse than where he is now.

Now, if he dont defend, the centerback has the ball 80m+ from goal.

If he dont defend the wing, whoever is rightback will get 2 v 1 constantly, 30m from goal.

I agree windkick, from what we gather so far it seems the system could be better suited for those players u mentioned. I totally dont think Cesc will leave, he will probably be vital again. If he really can get the best out of everyone, even like Mascherano, who never really been the best he could, then I would be happy.

Messi definitely dont think will move back to the wing, hes too influential now to do that, unless maybe to better accomodate NEymar? And we dont have a player really able to lead in the center anyway. Cesc there I doubt will be successful consistently long run... If its 4-3-3 i would imagine the same, Neymar-Messi-Pedro/Sanchez

If its Vergini, hes 6'3, 24 years old and seemed to be pretty important to Newells in that video BC posted. How good he is I cant tell from just that evidence, other than I can see he has size and has passing ability.

And if we ignore these Cesc bids.....our level of stupidity really has no end.

40 mil for Higuain:facepalm:
Meanwhile our board gives away players for free, sells Villa for 5 mil in installments and sells the best young player on the planet for peanuts.
Even Madrid have started doing good business. But we never learn.Going by the fact Higuain is being sold for 40,dont think 40 for Fab is enough.Granted he is garbage but the rest of the world still thinks he is a midfield GOD.Plus he is more marketable than Higuain. So we should set United a target of 45 to 50.

Also cant help but feel that Benitez is helping clear Madrid deadwood for exorbitant prices.65 mil for Higuain,Albiol and Callejon.Meanwhile our ex legendary player and coach, instead of doing the same for us(clearing deadwood) and buying the likes of Sanchez for 40 mil, goes and steals our best youth prospect since Messi.
Thank you Pep.

I get the logic Alex and perhaps I agree, but Man Utd are said to have come in twice now and I doubt they going to keep going up and up, especially to that 50 mark if they started off at like 25-30 and we apperently arent even coming to the table.

Unless of course all their targets get moved on and they become desperate..which is a possibility, having already missed Thiago, wont be getting Bale is Madrid and perhaps Strootman (already gone to Roma). Leaves them with only Cesc and Cabaye as the guys you here about.

I am quietly hoping all their targets get moved on, Rooney forces his way to Chelsea and they in desperation overpay for Cesc.

And Alex, I sense some real anger towards Pep for taking Thiago? Or am I reading too much into it? I know im kind of pissed at him for it.

I understand why he signed him, but he doesnt need Thiago and his "Barca fans should not worry im leaving" seems to be clearly just words.

I don't agree on moving Messi back in the wing but I disagree with this statement.

Playing centrally means you have a bigger area to defend plus two players to keep busy (the CB). At the wings your job is limited, and if you are not asked to track back or even follow the FB as Messi did, it's even easier than at the center.

Read the Vergini rumours. I don't know anything about him but I like his height, age and possible price. No idea about if he is fast and a good one on one defender, although he looks good enough on the ball in those videos.

But you can keep the 2 players busy in one movement. When pressing the centerbacks you are taught while closing down the man with the ball you come in at a diagonal angle which makes it impossible to pass it the other centerback.

Yes if you press the wing its a simplier task of just staying behind or ball side relative to the position of the ball. But why would we have our winger press and if the press is beaten, not track the fullback making that run? Of course that winger has to make those tracking back runs or what I said happens.

The CB will pass back to GK or pass it fast to the other CB. You need to press very strong and fast to cause two cbs problems. If you do a movement between the two, he'll just move it forward with no pressure.

Messi never tracked back and we didn't have much problems there.
