First US Trailer for I GIVE IT A YEAR Starring Rose Byrne

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 I-Give-It-A-Year-Dragonlord

Magnolia has released the trailer for Dan Mazer‘s reverse romantic-comedy, I Give It a Year.  The film stars Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) and Rafe Spall (Prometheus) as a mismatched couple and centers on their struggle to survive their first year of marriage.  This trailer shares some of the jokes with the one we saw last year, but it’s still very funny stuff.  The film also stars Anna Faris, Simon Baker, Stephen Merchant, Minnie Driver, Jason Flemyng, and Olivia Coleman. I Give It a Year hits VOD on July 3rd and opens in theaters on August 9th.

Synopsis: Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Rose Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Rafe Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, but the spark between them is undeniable. Their wedding is a dream come true, but no one — family, friends and even the minister who marries them — is convinced that they will last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Simon Baker) could offer attractive alternatives.

First Trailer for DRINKING BUDDIES Starring Olivia Wilde

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 Drinking-Buddies-Wilde-Johnson-Dragonlord

Magnolia has released the first trailer for director Joe Swanberg’s comedy Drinking Buddies.  The pic looks like a damn good time, and the chemistry between Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson is great.  Johnson has been doing fantastic stand-out work on the sitcom New Girl for the past two years.  Throw the immensely talented Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston into the mix as Johnson and Wilde’s significant others, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a promising beer dramedy.  Drinking Buddies will be available on iTunes on July 25th and opens in theaters on August 23rd.

Synopsis: Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson) work together at a craft brewery. They have one of those friendships that feels like it could be something more. But Kate is with Chris (Ron Livingston), and Luke is with Jill (Anna Kendrick). Jill wants to know if Luke is ready to talk about marriage. The answer to that question becomes crystal clear when Luke and Kate unexpectedly find themselves alone for a weekend.

EMPIRE STATE Trailer Starring Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 Empire-State-Trailer-Dragonlord

The first trailer for director Dito Montiel’s (Fighting) new film Empire State has been released online, but despite the impressive lead cast, the film is actually skipping a theatrical release and going direct-to-DVD.  The crime drama stars Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth and is based on the true story of a 1982 NYC armored car company robbery that was thought to be the largest cash heist in U.S. history.  Hemsworth and Michael Angarano play two childhood friends who plan to rob an armored car depository, while Johnson plays the NYPD detective out to bring them down.

The trailer doesn’t look that bad and Johnson has basically been box office steroids this year having opened three films at number one and another at number two (Snitch), so it's a question why Empire State was denied a theatrical release.  The film also stars Emma Roberts, Nikki Reed, Chris Diamantopoulos, James Ransone, Shenae Grimes, and Jerry Ferrara.  Empire State will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 3rd.

First Trailer for JOBS Starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 JOBS-Kutcher-Gads-0125-Dragonlord

Will audiences buy Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs? The first trailer for Jobs shows the Two and a Half Men star as the Apple co-founder during his college days, as he launched the start-up and after he encountered his fair share of corporate problems once the company grew to challenge other tech giants. The trailer ends with the line "some see what's possible" as the actor recites lines from the "Think Different" ad campaign.  Directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote), the film also stars Josh Gad, Dermot Mulroney, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons, Ron Eldard, and Matthew Modine.  Jobs opens August 16th.

Synopsis: We follow Steve Jobs (Ashton Kutcher) from the enthusiasm and self-discovery of his youth through his darkest days, brightest triumphs, and the ultimate power of his drive, his passions, and his undying will to change everything we thought possible. Dark, honest, and uncompromising, “Jobs” plunges into the depths of Steve Jobs’ character, uncovering his driving motivations, his gifts, his flaws, his failures, and his ultimate successes.

First Images from Steve McQueen's TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE

The first images from director Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated new film Twelve Years a Slave have arrived.  Based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography of the same name, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men) plays Northup, an educated and married black man living in 1853 New York.  Northup was approached by two men about a job offer in Washington D.C., but when he showed up he was kidnapped and forced into slavery for over a decade.

The film boasts a wildly impressive ensemble cast and marks McQueen’s follow-up feature after the critically acclaimed 2011 drama Shame.  The film also stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Quvenzhane Wallis, Sarah Paulson, Paul Dano, Scoot McNairy, Garrett Dillahunt, Alfre Woodard, Dwight Henry, Michael K. Williams, and Brad Pitt.  Twelve Years a Slave opens on December 27th.

Dormammu and Baron Mordo to Be the Villains in DR. STRANGE

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 Dormammu-600x200-Dragonlord

A new rumor has popped up with regards to the antagonists of Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie.  Disney recently announced 2016 and 2017 release dates for two untitled Marvel films, and the general consensus is that one of those will indeed be the long-promised Doctor Strange pic.  Even though the film has yet to be officially announced and there’s still no director, a new rumor has popped up claiming to reveal which villains will be squaring off against Doctor Strange in the film.

The folks over at Latino Review are reporting that Doctor Strange’s principal foe in the Marvel film will be the mystical entity Dormammu, referred to by Strange himself as his “most terrible foe.”  The character is an interdimensional being that possesses a healthy number of powers and abilities.  Additionally, LR reports that Baron Karl Mordo will appear as the film’s secondary villain/henchman and the Mindless Ones figures into an action sequence.  Mordo has the ability to manipulate magical forces through his years of studying black magic and mystic arts, while the Mindless Ones are rock-looking extra dimensional creatures that are summoned to do the bidding of others.

COMMUNITY Cast & Will Forte Audition for THE WAY, WAY BACK

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 2vmtz80

The upcoming drama/comedy The Way, Way Back marks the directorial debut of screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, who won the Oscar for writing The Descendants.  However, you might also recognize Faxon and Rash for their acting work, especially the latter as he plays Dean Pelton on Community.  In anticipation of the release of The Way, Way Back, which stars Sam Rockwell, Toni Collette, and Steve Carell and centers on the goings-on at a waterpark, Rash has enlisted a few of his Community cohorts and Will Forte to participate in a humorous “featurette” for the film.  The Way, Way Back opens on July 5th.

Synopsis: THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin).  Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer he will never forget.

Possible Awesome Story Details Revealed for JURASSIC PARK IV

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 Jurassic-Park-IV--Art-Plesiosaur-Dragonlord

A rumored plot synopsis for Jurassic Park IV has landed online, and it’s definitely an ambitious scale for the dinosaur-laden franchise entry.  While the previous three entries have all centered on dinos running wild amidst relatively remote locations (save for the lackluster San Diego sequence in The Lost World), if this purported plot synopsis is to be believed, we’re going to be seeing some rather crazy commotion in JP4.  Per the folks over at JoBlo, the sequel will actually involve that fully functioning amusement park that so many entrepreneurs have tried to get off the ground in the previous films:

"Jurassic Park 4, set in present day Isla Nublar, is now an actual theme park, as originally intended by John Hammond in the first film. It garners 10 million visitors per year and is completely safe – until it’s not. The park itself is described as very Sea World-esque and includes an area called the Isla Nublar Lagoon. That means underwater dino’s for the first time. No indication of what kind, but there’s concept art showing one of the aquatic dino’s, as part of a show, jumping out of the lagoon and eating a strung up great white shark like it was a fish for a dolphin at sea world."

The report claims that the film will include tamed dinosaurs as part of the park’s attractions, with the Velociraptors actually aiding the film’s heroes to combat a brand new dinosaur that turns out to be much smarter than originally thought. Again, this plot synopsis has yet to be confirmed.  It’s also in keeping with Trevorrow’s previous hint that the film takes place on Isla Nublar.  Steven Spielberg is apparently working with Trevorrow and producers right now on the script for Jurassic Park 4 before he goes off to make his next film.

William Fichtner Confirms He Will Play Shredder in NINJA TURTLES

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 William-Fichtner-Shredder-Dragonlord

Last month, it was reported that William Fichtner (Prison Break, Drive Angry) has joined Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Fichtner's role wasn't divulged but it was said it would be one of the iconic characters in the Turtles mythology. Since all the other major male parts are already cast (Danny Woodburn as Splinter, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, and Pete Ploszekas as the Turtles) and it was unlikely that it's going to be Casey Jones, that only leaves the main antagonist - Shredder.

Well today, Fichtner has confirmed to the Huffington Post that he is indeed playing the master villain: "I play Shredder. It is cool. It's one of those things that came along where I thought, "Really? Let me think about this for a minute." [Laughs] Then I was like, "Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey." I'm very glad that it worked out, I'm really glad that I'm doing it."

The original Shredder was Japanese named Oroku Saki and is the primary villain in the TMNT comics and all related media. I like Fichtner, I think he's a great supporting actor and makes any role memorable. Not so sure about him being Shredder though. But then again, I don't have high hopes for this Michael Bay-produced reboot either. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens June 6, 2014.

Searching For Sugar Man is a very interesting documentary... Someone mentioned it earlier and I can concur that it is good.

Side Effects starring Jude Law and Rooney Mara, both puts in good performances especially the latter. I think Mara is going to be one of the better actresses in coming years.

Will Smith Not Returning for INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequel

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 28mk5r6

A few days ago, 20th Century Fox finally solidified Independence Day 2 by announcing a July 3, 2015 release date.  A couple of months ago, director Roland Emmerich said that both films will take place 20 years after the original and Part 1 will end with a cliffhanger that leads directly into Part 2, but it appears that the second sequel may no longer be a foregone conclusion.

At the press day for his upcoming action film White House Down, Emmerich talked briefly about the Independence Day sequel, confirming that it is likely his next film and revealing that they’re only focusing on doing one sequel for the time being.  The filmmaker also confirmed to NY Daily News that Will Smith will not be appearing in the follow-up:

“Will Smith cannot come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much. We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film [in the script] and the other half people who are new.”

and my word. I am in love with Jude Law. Probably the only guy I'd turn gay for. He's incredible.

Watched Cloud Atlas this weekend. An ambitious movie, but I'm really torn on it. Hated the yellowface characters that Hugo Weaving and James D'arcy played. That looked way too forced and a bit lazy from the Wachowskis. Just cast Asian actors ffs.

Beyond that, I loved the span of time it covered from the mid-1800s to the 30s, the 70s, 2012, 2144 to some neo-primitive period several centuries after civilization had ended (I'm thinking 2700s). The characters, especially Ben Whishaw's Frobisher and D'Arcy's Sixsmith were extremely well acted. I was less impressed by Hanks' and Berry's characters though, but loved Weaving's villains.

Like the story settling around concepts of freedom, slavery, rebellion, revolution and legacies, but I felt there were missed oppportunities.

All in all, a good movie though. Just under 3 hours so it was a bit long.

WORLD WAR Z Sequel Moving Forward After $66 Million Debut

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 World-War-Z-Family-Night-Dragonlord

With the successful $111.8 million worldwide debut of zombie extravaganza World War Z -- a passion project for the actor -- Paramount actively will turn to developing a sequel,  studio vice chairman Rob Moore tells The Hollywood Reporter. The tentpole earned $66 million in North America, the best opening for an original live-action tentpole since Avatar, and $45.8 million from its first 25 foreign markets.

World War Z initially was envisioned as a trilogy, but those plans were shelved when the movie ran into trouble, requiring extensive reworking of the last act. Initially set to open in December 2012, the movie's release date was pushed back to June, prompting many in Hollywood to anticipate a blood bath. But in a happy reversal of fortune, World War Z is off to a strong start, both in terms of its commercial and critical appeal.

Pitt aggressively helped market World War Z, attending numerous screenings across the country, as well as turning up at industry events, such as CinemaCon, the annual convention of theater owners in Las Vegas. He also has jetted around the world to attend various premieres of the movie. "The great thing about this process was that it showed what a great partner and producer Brad is," says Moore. "He made a true commitment."

Jim Carrey Won't Support KICK-ASS 2 Due to Level of Violence

The Movie House - Part 3 - Page 5 Kick-Ass-2-Colonel-Stripes-Dragonlord

Jim Carrey, who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes in Kick-Ass 2, has distanced himself from the upcoming Universal sequel because of its violent content. Carrey used his Twitter account to pass along the message to his over 10,863,000 followers: "I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."

For his part, Kick-Ass creator/writer Mark Millar responded to Carrey's comments on his own website. "As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago," Millar wrote on Millar World. "Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin." Millar, a self-professed Carrey fan, noted that his work in Kick-Ass 2 is a career highlight.

This isn't the first time Carrey has spoken out about violence. In March of this year, while promoting a sketch for Funny or Die, Carrey called those against gun control in the wake of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. "heartless motherf--kers."
