Re: Ze German Thread
I'm absolutely saddened for the boy, too. But at least he will likely have the chance to play two more world cups, other than Franck Ribéry for whom now the last chance to shine slipped away.
On the other hand, maybe this will come to boost the German NT as they will now push even harder for the win as they want to win it even more for the guys who miss out, too.

Re: Ze German Thread
Reus is a huge huge huge miss, best and most in form player in the team missing. That's like Neymar missing for Brazil or Iniesta for Spain. If we ever had a chance, it was with Reus. I hope others can step up for him but I doubt it.

Re: Ze German Thread
It really is BAD. In such a good form.
Only thing is that Reus' position is one where we have a lot of quality still in the squad, Poldi, Schürrle, Draxler, Götze..
As for our 'chances', I've stopped regarding us title favourites a while ago, this is obviously not making it likelier..

I read a similar comment that without Reus Germany have no chance of winning WC 2014.
Re: Ze German Thread
Is this world cup missing more top class players through injury than any other in recent memory?
Re: Ze German Thread
Of course Reus is a huge loss, but it's not like Neymar or Iniesta missing, we're much more deep than that, let's remember that Götze would normally be benched as well, Reus getting injured just means more match time for Götze, Podolski, and Schürrle, who are all also very good.
Of course every high caliber player you lose sucks, especially in a world cup like this one ,where you expect to make lots of substitutions because of the weather alone.

If at this age Klose can start as a number 9 at a world cup for a top national team then he deserves maximum kudos.

Spain have Koke, Mata, Silva to replace Iniesta, great players but they are no Iniesta. Brazil have Bernard, Willian to replace Neymar, again great players but they are no Neymar. Same situation with us.
But I agree with the main point that we should get behind those who will play and hope someone else steps up and makes a name for himself.

Forget recent. No World Cup in history saw so many injuries.

He was completely fine, with zero complaints, fit to play 90 minutes, and in the form of his life.

Yep. Unluckily twisted his ankle after a challenge which wasn't out of the ordinary as far as I remember (I look away when slow motions of this stuff is shown as I don't want to see it).
Nothing anyone can do about it, nor could anyting have been done to avoid it.

Re: Ze German Thread
Yeah, it was just bad luck that he landed badly on the side of the foot and then pronated his ankle, which lead to the ligament rupture. It was a move that could have happened anywhere, even in just so (I had something very similar when just running to catch a bus when I mis-stepped badly on an uneven floor plate - so you don't even need a match or training for that...).

100% spot on and wonderful comments
Re: Ze German Thread
In todays press conference Hansi Flick confirms Lahm will play in midfield for the whole tournament, and that Boateng will replace Hummels if he can't make it against Ghana. Hummels is expected to play but we'll hear more from Löw about that tomorrow.
He also said the back 4 won't change if there's no injuries which is good news, they need to play together as much as possible before facing the big teams.
Hopefully Hummels fully recovers but if he doesn't, Flick mentioned Mustafi but Höwedes is another possibility with Durm as LV.

Re: Ze German Thread
LOL, looks like Sportbild found out who is living with whom in Campo Bahia. One of the houses consists of
Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern), Julian Draxler (Schalke), Matthias Ginter (Freiburg), Kevin Großkreutz (Borussia Dortmund), Benedikt Höwedes (Schalke), and Thomas Müller (Bayern).
I bet they'll have a lot of fun with banters XD
