Re: Sir Frank Lampard
It is interesting that in 6 months he will head to New York where his family is n't there? It not about family. It is about career & money. I think most professional players of current generation would have done what is right for them.Shed wrote:
Your entire case for his supposed disloyalty seems to be that he moved to City on loan rather than Australia. I'm asking why you think Frank should be thinking more about Chelsea fans (99.9% of whom see what he's done for our club and don't give a shit anyway) than about himself and moved to Melbourne away from his home, daughters and fiance just to satisfy you.
I always thought Lampard- Gerrard generation is different and hence my respect and expectations from them.

Re: Sir Frank Lampard
It's not about that, It's about Lampard wanting to continue to play at the highest level. Where better than England.
And when his options were playing for City or playing in Melbourne (whose season is yet to kick off) I know who I'd pick if I wanted to stay fit.

Every generation of players should do what's right and what's best for themselves and only themselves.
Are you saying he or anyone else should voluntarily elect to make less money (going on your premise) in a less desirable location just to make some set of fans possibly feel better about things?

That's ludicrous.

Fair point. I think City offers him CL too. I understand as a player the desire to play at the highest level and with good money. No question on a professional front.
Having played on highest level for decades and winning everything and for just 6 more months of play time for a direct rival of your club , to whom you are a legend. Gerrard would have a passed it.

Re: Sir Frank Lampard
Lmao. You do realise Gerrard announced he wanted to leave Liverpool and was on the verge of joining Chelsea during Mourinho's first stint and only backed out of the move because of the pressure from infuriated Liverpool fans, don't you?

Re: Sir Frank Lampard
Except that he didn't and Lampy did.
We can go on and argue on how we think about the situation. I think we have to agree to disagree on this.
I hate to see my fav player in a dirty washed down blue jersey .

@Nedved
Loyalty goes two ways. How loyal were Chelsea then, when they didn't offer him a new contract? BTW, I would be far less impressed by a player if he wouldn't act 100% professional.

Re: Sir Frank Lampard
I'd actually be somewhat saddened if Lampard didn't do exactly what he did.
If he had purposely missed/not made the run or if he'd celebrated like Nasri I would have been saddened and annoyed, because that's not Lampard.

^ this
As for him not being 'awarded' a contract: I think it was in the best interest of all parties involved for him to move on. He knew his time was going to be up sooner or later and it would have been better to give the next generation to take over rather than wasting his still able years on the bench. I mean, we tried it last year and it worked out okay but it wasn't the way forward at all.
I've got huge respect for Lampard for giving his best. There was no way he would celebrate against us and we love him for it. Can't imagine how hard it would have been for him when he scored.

This
People want to harp on about players not having loyalty when they leave their club for big money, but nobody wants to point the finger at clubs who force out players because they're past their best even though they want to stay.
Loylaty in football has been dead for a long time, and money and player greed are just as much to blame as the cold, myopic, machiavellian nature of clubs who are willing to part ways with players at a whim when a better one comes around.

Yes, concur with everyone else here. Was thinking this exact thing a few minutes after the goal.
I'd have had less respect for him as a professional if he'd intentionally shot it the other side of the bar or something.

Another pair of goals for Frank as he opened and closed City's scoring tonight in their 7-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
